Transcription Amongst the pen pushers Q Donaghue has been selected for
SRC. Staff Sergeant Hogg, Corporals Richmond and Marriott
are just leaving, Corporals Skidmore and Clamp are just arriving.
Private Robson is now A/Lance Corporal Robson. Lastly we
say farewell to Karen and welcome back Lesley in the Orderly
Room.
STORES PLATOON 4th ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
WE have at last had our second officer posted in: Second
Lieutenant Keith Tweene who has finally escaped the clutches
of those down the road.
Sergeant Brummie Wilkes of Corps football fame has had
a serious road accident, he was knocked down by a car and
rushed to the local German Hospital. We are glad to report
he is making a good recovery; the number of phone calls we
received concerning Brummie was unbelievable but very well
appreciated by his lovely wife Marlene.
On the sporting scene we have usually had three or four
regulars in the Workshop rugby team. The' Skill-at-Arms was
won convincingly by the Platoon—with Corporal John Bolton
making his SLR the hottest shot in Detmold. Corporal Jackson
when not ski-ing was making mincemeat out of an LMG target,
he finished second.
The Platoon had a farewell party for six members who are
all posted in the near future. Corporals John Bolton, Geordie
Heddon and Jim Shellum; Privates Clarence Hickman, Pinky
Powell and Clown Brown.
Welcome to Second Lieutenant Keith Tween, Corporal
Alan Kilminster.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal John
Brogan on the birth of his daughter.

THE end of an era. Major Ian
Bradley has finally departed leaving
his successor Major Roger Thomas
with a large hole to fill. I'm sorry,
I'll draft that again
leaving
his successor Major Roger Thomas
with the great weight of
no,
that's not right either
leaving
his successor
Oh, to heck
with it. We've changed Second-in-
Commands. The photo shows Major Bradley being ' seen off
the premises' in traditional style. Major Thomas is now out
of intensive care after his prolonged exposure to toxic concentra-
tion of Senior Service smoke.
Major
Bradley leaves in style.
43 RP COMPANY.
Sergeant Rocky Drew accompanied by
Private Overton wandered the woods of Westphalia assisting
8 Regiment RCT on Exercise Hotline. 8 Regiment thanked
them for their support and have promised to wear it always.
Captain Ward has returned from his Middle Management Course
at Blackdown and the rumours are that he now has the best-
managed middle in the Company. Whilst on the subject of
exercise, the Multigymn has at last, been installed in Nieheim.
Latter-day flagellants can be seen regularly worshipping at this
shrine to the ' body beautiful.' In the same vein, the Battalion
rugby team has won through to the final of the 3rd Armoured
Division Minor Units cup by beating 3 ADOC twenty nine nil.
Sergeant Garland has left us after a very short tour to go and
assist the Command NORTHAG. Our best wishes go with him
and our congratulations on his promotion.
44 RP COMPANY.
Notable events this month have been our
success at the RAOC golf championships held at Sennelager.
W02 Rocky Mellors won the runner-up first round and CQMS
Dizzy Disberry was the runner-up in the Bogey Competition.
A highlight was a visit by the CCRAOC, Brigadier Skinner.
A sparkling technical brief by the ATO, Captain Mark Wickham
and the Senior Supply Specialist, W02 Rocky Mellors was
followed by a tour of the Depot. The MHE department would
have been a credit to the Motor Show (no topless models
though) the CQMS's department looked more like Harrods and
the Department itself was immaculate. Where did all those
leaves go? Monty paddled in some interesting puddles and then
deposited dirty paw prints over the Second-in-Command's carpet!
Corporal Stew Hooper having organised a very successful
car rally last month, is now organising another one.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Squatter Stevens and
A/Corporal Daisy Adams on passing the RPC2 course. We
welcome to the Company CSM Pete Fellows and say fare-
well to CSM Kim Selvon, and Sergeant Mo Spencer.
49 RP COMPANY.
Brigadier Skinner recently presented a
Certificate to Frau ' Nellie' Lohman, in recognition of having
worked for twenty five years for the Army at our Barracks at
Obernkirchen.
Sergeant MacPherson is smiling all the time these days,
moratorium or not he will shortly be attending the MT Sergeants
Course. His stand-in, Corporal Koren now wears the worried
looks, not because the job is beyond him its just that the MT
Sergeants chair is too big for him! Talking of the MT, Lance
Corporals Fleming and Bowdler, Privates Wallace, Hannibal,
Price, Fetherston and Corporal Bunn REME say it's good here!
Staff Sergeant Neary now has Corporal Crompton to help him
in the Families Office, he seems to be fairly busy around the
Unit, clutching his millboard, I wonder what is wrong? The
CQMS Staff Sergeant Davies is now far more efficient than
he was, having recently attended a course at the School of
Ordnance, or was it a Recce for Captain Addy! Sergeant
Claughton, the Chief Clerk is to be seen practising on the start-
ing blocks, not to chase Private Pettitt on another trip to see
the ' Madness' Group, but ready to leave on posting to Berlin
(West not East).
Lieutenant McCallum has now really taken control of Am-
munition Platoon, a happy go lucky crowd they are too, well
done 'Ammo ' on the excellent SATO inspection. Staff Sergeant
Ruddy reckons that the new OC Petroleum Platoon, Captain
Osborne will make the grade, what better recommendation can
one get.
The basketball team, led by Sergeant Stevens, and con-
taining such players as Privates Stout, Wilson 66, Keal, Fearon,
Corporals Hetherington, Lamb, Meah and Lance Corporal Mac-
Farlane have played two matches—and won one of them. May-
be our newest arrival Sergeant Dymond, can help them win
more.
To list everyone in every team which 49 RP Company
produces would take forever; suffice it to say what the Unit
has on offer: football, rugby, volleyball, basketball, table
tennis, cross country/orienteering, judo, swimming, sailing, water
ski-ing, indoor tennis and fairly shortly squash and ten pin bowl-
ing. Congratulations to the Unit Orienteering Team, consisting
of Captain Addy, Sergeant Claughton, Staff Sergeant Davies,
Corporal Cuthbert (thirteenth out of sixty teams) in the BAOR
Relay Orienteering Championships.
Well done Private ' Gabby' Rainford on passing the
Driving Course, and to Corporal ' Mr M H E ' Skelton on passing
the MHE Instructors Course. All of this should be good news
to our newcomers; Captain Paul Osborne the new OIC Petroleum
Platoon (Black Gold Gang), Sergeants Barrett ACC, Dymond,
Privates Toms, MacDonald, Mason, Campbell, Battersby and
Fletcher. Farewell to Captain Addy, Sergeant Claughton and
Private Stebbings.
