Specialists from 1 (BR) Corps Vehicle Company demonslrating
the hooking u p of a Scimitar under a Chinook helicopter.
The R A F has recently taken delivery of the first of thirty
three Chinook heavy-lift helicopters ordered at a cost of £100
million.
Built by Boeing Vertol, the Chinook is already in service
with ten other countries. T h e R A F version is fitted with advanced
British navigation a n d communications equipment supplied by
Marconi Avionics.
T h e Chinook can carry forty four troops or a variety of
loads ranging from a five-ton truck to a floating bridge. Operating
in battlefield support, it can supply, on a single sortie, u p to ten
tons of fuel.
