MILITARY OPERATIONS.
This
^ ^ ^ pktfz&ts^r
month we seem to have quite a few

new faces around the Directorate. We
J/yj^X
would like to welcome them all and

enjoyable tour. Sergeant
J&^TgJgSgr^j??
Dave Bellew, on transfer into the
^^%
Igglijj c ^ ' W Corps from the Grenadier Guards, has
been attached to M03 for six months
to assist in Exercise Wintex 81 planning. Until now I had
thought that the Infantry marched at ninety per minute, not
typed at that speed (perhaps a little exaggerated, but I can assure
you, only a little).
Sergeant Pam Dibben has arrived to take over from Sergeant
Irene Lockwood who is posted to Germany. We wish Irene
good fortune for the future and hope Pam settles quickly into
the Secretariat.
Lance Corporal Diane West has joined us from Catterick
and Private Marjorie Dudman direct from Blackdown.
Staff Sergeant Cliff Lee has just been informed of his posting
to LIVEOAK; Sergeant Chris Morris of DI4 will relieve him.
I gather both parties are looking forward to their impending
moves. No doubt it is the thought of LOA that draws Cliff
away from the bright lights of Military Operations. He will
find more time in LIVEOAK to pursue his outside interests,
but wonders what on earth he will find to talk to his wife about
when he gets home at lunchtime and shortly after five in the
evening.
Staff Sergeant Denis Palmer is now posted to 16 Battalion
at Bicester and not to Woolwich as previously reported.
Directorate of Supply Computer Services
THE silly season is upon us again and Branch and Team
parties are in full swing. Captain Barry Morgan has been act-
ing on behalf of Egon Ronay (unpaid) to find out just which
establishment in a radius of six miles around Graven Hill offers
the finest cuisine and value for money. His guide should be very
useful for next year.
The winter weather has brought its usual spate of road
accidents.
W02 Dave Kuester was involved in a serious
accident on his way to work at the beginning of December. His
left hand drive mini-bus had an argument with a coach—the
right hand part of the mini-bus was crushed completely and it
took firemen an hour to cut him free. However, to nobodys
surprise, he talked the whole time. Dave Kuester is now out
of hospital (minus a knee cap) and was even seen at the
Sergeants Mess Draw recently. He still plans to continue his
javelin throwing in 1981, and we wish him a speedy and com-
plete recovery.
VESPER'S annual military versus civilian Potted Sports were
held early in December. I understand it was a military victory
with the Civilian team winning the soccer eleven to four despite
W02 Les Govan's valiant attempt to elminate Graham Howe.
There is still time to wish all our readers a Happy New
Year and to welcome our newcomers; Major John West, Major
John Livingstone, Major John Elphinstone (from Australia),
Lieutenant Simon Ginn, WOs2 Shaw and Stacey and Sergeants
Hendon and Beck. By the time this newsletter appears in
THE GAZETTE we will have said farewell to Major David Marks,
Major David Reid (all the best on his promotion to Lieutenant
Colonel on return to Australia), Captain Sue Rollo and Cap-
tain Warwick Stanton. To all we wish them good luck in t h e i r
new appointments.
Finally my apologies to Lieutenant Colonel Louis John—
welcome to DSCS.
SCHOOL OF ORDNANCE
THIS month has been a relatively quiet one for the School,
especially for the Logistics Branch. The new Senior Instructor
Logistics, Lieutenant Colonel Bradley, has already made his
mark in the branch. He placed ' THE GAZETTE Notes' file in
our tray, marked ' T o the Captains Cabal.' We didn't under-
stand the statement but we assume that it means the ' Loglets
have been lemoned again!'
Firstly our foreign news. Major Ray Ansel recently won the
RAOC Autumn Golf Meeting adding yet. another trophy, a
rose bowl, to his growing collection. He also assures us that he
and the Commandant won a unique game of golf when they beat
their opposite numbers from the Army Catering Corps. In
typical American fashion, Ray actually reported this match as
the ' first Annual Exchange Officers Golf Meet!' He also reported
that he has taught one period this month. His tour has recently
been extended to 1982 so that he can teach about six more.
Sergeant Binks took part in the International Cross Country
Event at the Crystal Palace recently. He spent a few days
touting for ' viewers' when he heard that the race was to be
televised. Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be seen, beaten by
eighty two lucky runners. Lance Corporal Wrigley was selling
badges on the following Monday titled ' I didn't see Mick Binks
on the Tele!' He was more fortunate in the HMS Collingwood
six mile road race coming first. He was also in the team which
came second in the Army Cross Country Relay. There were no
Ethiopians in either of these events!
W02 Madden has attended an RQMS' Course and has
been seen shaking his head relentlessly. After ?? years in
RAOC and having spent all that time accounting for what he
had, he has now found that the units account for what they
haven't! He ended up with a B grading so something must have
rubbed off.
Major Stephen Roberts has spent some time with us in
our office recently. He keeps promising us slides if we part with
information, notably about the Divisional Ordnance Companies.
Soest beware!
Those who know the School well may know that Super-
clerk, ie Carol Foxon, has finally passed her driving test at the
nth attempt. She has even driven to work by herself since and
even parked the car in the School car park. Carol has now
expressed a wish to become a driving instructor, her first student
being Captain Geoff Lynn from the OOs course!
We wait with bated breath for the arrival of Major Reggie
Von Zugbach de Sugg. He is not as the name suggests a. train
driver but the replacement for the new Lieutenant Colonel Dai
Davies. The typists are already Upset because there isn't space
to write his initials R. G. L. V. Z de S. on the course pro-
grammes.
Finally Major Frank Warren would like it publicly known
that he is still here!
EMPLOYMENT TRAINING
SCHOOL
BASIC CLERKS.
The number of students attending the All
Arms Clerk Class 3 and the Supply Clerks Class 3 courses
continue to rise. Additional courses are being crammed into
an already heavily loaded course year. Instructors and students
alike continue to thrive and all is well and happy at the Employ-
ment Training School RAOC.
Welcome to Sergeant Alan Cooper, R Signals, soon to be-
come RAOC, and Sergeant Malcome Sharpe new arrival at the
School. Fond farewells to Staff Sergeant Tony Rolfe on posting
to Antwerp and Sergeant Ron Cooper on posting to Germany.
Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Alan Coulbeck on the
award of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal which he
almost swallowed at the drinks party after the parade.
SUPPLY SPECIALISTS. All that can be heard from our leader
WOl Keith Williams is "who has Precis No?" also "what
happened to View Foils for lesson?"
