FORWARD ORDNANCE DEPOT DULMEN
THE ARU scheduled for December was postponed because of
the moratorium but the CO, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Ewens,
organised his own inter-Platoon and Company competition. It
was a hectic, varied and interesting day which was enjoyed by
(almost) everyone. The competition included NBC, Fieldcraft,
map reading, drill, .22 shooting, first aid, a Military knowledge
quiz and a Command Task which entailed changing Land
Rover wheels, with the minimum of equipment and the maxi-
mum of brain and brawn, in the shortest possible time.
After eating lunch under field conditions so the cooks
didn't feel too left out of the competition, we engaged in
tug-of-war, touch rugby, six-a-side soccer and basketball and
the afternoon culminated in a log race over an obstacle course,
designed by OC Stores Sub-Depot, Major John Wright. At
the end of the day a smoker was held in the JRC and the CO
presented Company and Platoon prizes.

STORES SUB-DEPOT. The winning Platoon of the ARU com-
petition was No. 3 Platoon, ' B ' Company, which, needless to
say, is made up of SSD personnel. We not only received prizes
from the CO but he also announced several promotions, in-
cluded in which were two of our own Lance Corporals—so con-
MOBILISATION STORES SUB-DEPOT. After good results in
winning the football and tug-of-war competitions, MSSD in the
shape of No. 2 Platoon were officially placed second in the
overall competition but judging by the amount of beer donated
by W02 Craddock at the smoker we thought we had won.
The following members of MSSD recently passed their RPC '
3—2 Courses: Lance Corporals ' T i n y ' Blyth, Dave Duxbury.
Keith Howes and Roger Moody. Congratulations to them and :
also to Sergeant Ray Dempsey and his wife on the birth of
their son (one more for the football team).
Sergeant Bill Wreyford has just returned from four weeks at
Bracht on his MTI Course and all the shouting and bawling
has earned him the new appointment of Provost Sergeant as well
as a pass on the course. Well done also to Lance Corporal John
Coulter on promotion.
We bid farewell this month to W02 Barry Daunt, Sergeant
Bob Morgan and Private Rocky Lawrence who leave on
posting and to Private Dave Constable on discharge. We wel-
come Sergeants Alan Salt and Mel Halls, Corporal Geordie
Dixon and Private Taff Powell.
PS. C and A Offices have not moved this month as no one
can remember where they were put last time.
STATION STAFF OFFICER.
The SSOs Department in a
small station like Dulmen is often ignored in the RAOC
GAZETTE—but try to get along without it! The Station Staff
Officer is Major Roger Tweed, often heard bewailing the fact
that humans don't behave like computers. His Chief Clerk is
Staff Sergeant Keith Jones who can never find the SSO when
he wants him. Sergeant Rod Daddow is soon to depart for the
Recruiting Organisation in Glasgow—got your tin hat, Rod".'
Corporal Les Knight is shared with the QM as rat-catcher
extraordinaire and spare time Unit rep on march in/out.
Our Estate Warden is Sergeant Sean McPoland—is he really
Irish? Not forgetting Frau Hilda Radford our civilian clerk
who keeps the office going while all around her are doing
BFTs, playing sport or quietly going round the bend.
Look out—The SSOs escaped again!
TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT.
Congratulations to Lance
Corporals Sellars and Whitwham on their recent promotions
and to Lance Corporal Sellars and Private Caulfield on gaining
RPC2. CDP 2 say farewell to Corporal Heath and wish he and
his wife the best of luck in the future and congratulate Lance
Corporal Wilkes on promotion.
On the sporting side the first Dulmen Judo Club competition
was held recently. The winners of the five weight groups were:
Donna Parker, Lee Morgan, Phil Hunter, Gary'Fryer and Colin
Morgan. Chris Duffy made the best effort of the day and
Donna Parker executed the best throw of the day.
Con-
gratulations to the winners and thanks to the CO for presenting
the prizes, to those who participated and supported and to Lance
Corporal Tony Franklin and Lieutenant Paul Crossman for
organising the competition.
The RAOC (BAOR) Cross Country Championship was
hosted by Dulmen and a full report of the event will be
included in our next contribution.
89 SUPPLY DEPOT
THE arrival of Second Lieutenant Jane Fausset (WRAC) caused
quite a stir in this male dominated stronghold. A pleasant stir
I might add. This is history in the making, the first WRAC
Officer to be posted to a Supply Depot. We all wish our new
acquisition an enjoyable stay.
Christmas festivities got off to a very good start with the
celebration of Saint Nikolaus one day early. Wine and food
was served and our thanks go to Frau Irmgard Brodowski our
Works Council Chairwoman for arranging it.
The draw will long be remembered by members and guests
of 89 Club. The success of the evening was due to the hard
work put in by all members of 89, " Well done Lads." The
whole function was well generalled by Sergeant Dave Jones
and his merry band.
Congratulations are in order for Corporal Graham Moore
on his promotion; well done keep up the good work.
Our greying Staff Sergeant Frank Smith has attracted a new
nickname (Tufty) due to his falling asleep in the barbers chair,
never mind Frank it will grow (even greyer than before).
Major Ray Vincent our new OC arrived this month just in
time to enjoy all the Christmas festivities. We welcome him to
a pleasant stay at 89.
