Transcription quarters seven days prior to the event. This year we provided
WOs2 Graves and Avery, Staff Sergeant Stevenson, Sergeants
Markley and Dowse, Corporal Moon and Lance Corporal Stott
as well as three reserves—Sergeant Hodgson, Corporals Mayoh
and Ellis. Although the team collected no prizes, all participants
should be thanked for their hard work.
On the sporting side pride of place must go to the Logistics
soccer team who boast six RAOC players amongst their ranks
and with the season half way through are at the top of the
Akrotiri Minor Units League.
The Cross Country Team is also going flat out (sorry!) and
competing regularly for RAOC Cyprus are Captain Brown, W02
Lewis, Staff Sergeant Dickie, Sergeants Markley and Gordon,
Corporal Lewis and Lance Corporal Stott. Corporal Revill is
putting in some stirring performances for the Akrotiri Flamingo's
rugby team. Golf is becoming a major attraction with WOl
Edwards, Sergeants Neal (out of plaster now) Perry, Porter,
Corporals Thomson, Revill, Peterson and Hughes all entering
the recent RAOC Golf Society meeting. WOl Edwards won
the prize for the highest gross score—a golf made easy hand-
book !
On the social side a very successful cheese and wine party
was held in the RAOC Club and the success of the evening was
due to the hard work put in by Corporal Lewis who firstly
convinced ETKO Wines Limited to sponsor the evening and
secondly organised the whole event!
Finally, we come to the arrivals, departures and con-
gratulatory spot and say welcome to W02 Graves and family,
Corporal Bolton and family and Private Hart who joins us from
the UN in Nicosia. Farewells to W02 Collins and Corporal
Mayoh and their families—we wish them every success in the
future. Congratulations are in order for Sergeant Porter on
gaining his substantive rank, W02 and Mrs Graves, Corporal
and Mrs Moon on the birth of a daughter in each family. Lance
Corporal Dunlop on gaining a high grading on his Bl Vehicle
Specialist Course and Sergeant Neal and Corporal Lewis for
passing their EPC(A).

ST BARBARA'S DAY saw the gathering of the clans—RAOC
and REME combined in a church service followed by drinks
at Blackdown Barracks.
December saw a visit from the Colonel Commandant,
Major General Speller followed by an informal visit by the
CBF, Major General Chappie.
The Royal Hong Kong Golf Club was impressed with the
result of the Windsor Bowl and Gunner Goblet Team results.
Captain Mick Priestley, Staff Sergeants Paddy Teegan and
Frank O'Brien and Sergeant Ray Bailie won the Windsor Bowl
foursomes and Captain Mick Priestley and Staff Sergeant Frank
O'Brien won the Gunner Goblet pairs with Staff Sergeant Dick
Baker and Sergeant Ray Bailie runners-up.
On the Regimental side saw a drill competition between
HKOR and BOR on who could change pace the most during
one circuit of the drill square. The result was declared a draw
as the sides were integrated in preparation for the January
parade.
Christmas has come and the goose got fat
I did not put a dollar in the poor mans hat
I did not have a dollar left nor a cent too
All I could say was " God bless you."
The build up of the festive season started with the
Sergeants Mess Draw. The main prize of the full set of golf
clubs, thought up and purchased by Staff Sergeant Geordie
Adamson, was won by, you've guessed it, Staff Sergeant Geordie
Adamson.
His Christmas will go with a swing no doubt.
The Holiday Inn was the venue for the Sergeants Mess
Christmas ball with a sumptuous spread and dancing to the
Q O Hldrs Dance Band. Christmas dinners and drinks by each-
department and various groups followed to herald Christmas
Day.
Congratulations go to: W02 Pete Smith on his pro-
motion to sub-W02 and Staff Sergeant Dick Baker on his pro-
motion to sub-Staff Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Geordie Adamson
on a distinction in Man Management to EPC (Advanced) even
if he was a doubting Thomas. Sergeant Tom Hart on his walk
' for a million' in the cause for charity.
Farewells go to: WOsl Chuck Thomas and Matt Matakitoga,
W02 Paddy Kelly, Corporal Tex Dexter and families—not for-
gotten.
Welcome to: WOl Bob Saffery, WOs2 Paul Rogers and
Duncan Leitch, Staff Sergeants Steve Jenkinson and Jim Brady,
Corporals Alex Lamb and Pete Lythgoe and families.

_, W02 Mel Lee scored thirty and then had to
retire (no pension, no gratuity) but Sergeant
Gordon Russell didn't get a chance to either bat or bowl. Perhaps
that was for the best as I've been told that as a cricketer, Gordon
makes a good goalkeeper. That statement is rather confusing as,
when Gordon plays in goal for G Branch in the flve-a-side
football lunchtime league, he's often told that as a goalkeeper
he makes a good cricketer! However, I digress. Back to the
cricket
Joint Secretariat's Lance Corporal Phil Wheetman acquitted
himself very well, making two excellent catches (he didn't spill a
drop from either can) and then bowled two overs with dis-
tinction. The Ord Branch stalwarts, WOl Phil Buxton and
Sergeant Tony Dales also upheld the gdod name of the
Corps. Phil scored eight before being bowled and Tony scored
twenty five before, unluckily, being caught having a slash by
the off-stump (what a way to go!).
The result was a resounding win by the HQBF team and
the five aforementioned must have made good impressions
as they have now been ' Drafted ' (Naval term) by the HMS
Tamar team to play against the Command Pay Office later this
month.
On the hello/goodbye scene, we welcome Staff Sergeant
George Storey from Berlin and sadly say goodbye to Staff
Sergeant George Jones and his wife Betty who are heading
for that land of opportunity (not to mention LOA) Rheindahlen.
We wish them well for the future. George Storey will no doubt
notice a change in the male dominated bastion of the Army
Support Element after working with a multitude of nubile young
frauleins in the Berlin Garrison Administrative Unit. Guten
tag, George. Vie Geherts?
In closing, the CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel Brian Fox OBE,
and all past and present members of the Corps in the Far East,
extend wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year to the
Editor of THE GAZETTE, his staff and all readers. KUNG TCHEE
FA CHAT!

Covent Garden was never like this. Major Monty W o o d buying
local produce in San Po Kong with Staff Sergeant Fred Furness
pointing out the blemishes no doubt!
