We say fond farewell to Sergeant Ron Gray and his wife Babs and to Mrs Elaine Mirccki who has been tfur major assembly clerk for the last five years. Elaine leaves on pro- motion. Rumour has it that the SSM is fixing an establish- ment change and is going to poach her back again. Welcomes arc made to Sergeant and Mrs Geoff Harland and to Sergeant and Mrs Geordie Kent to whom the shock of leaving the Depot and joining a working unit has been too much. We also welcome Mrs Kim Thomas. A quick mention is made to Corporal John Goulding who has at last evicted his wife Rosclind from the driving scat of his car. 5 Field Force •^ ORDNANCE • f i l f c ^ ^ COMPANY ^KfljuL^^B^^^^ THE constant wail of ^MKffjx^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ' Now vvc m a there no as ^Hraz^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ta^- ^KSHEY^^^^^^^^B^^^^^^^ Lieutenant Colonel C. R. Pickard QCM RAOC, and Obcrstleutnant 34 Panzer Battalion inspecting the guard at the Patcnschaft Parade at Scheuen to celebrate ten years of friendship between I Armoured Division Ordnance Company and 34 Panzer Battalion. The friendship was formed when the units were stationed in adjacent barracks at Scheuen. (Reported fully in the December 1980 issue of 'The Gazette'). of course is not true—well, not for most of us at least. Private Aldridge had a longer holiday than most but we are all now back in the fold and bracing ourselves for the year ahead . . . . (Sorry, I dozed off for a minute there). No, seriously. The unit is running cadres on so many subjects at the moment that serving in 1 ADOC for three months counts as doing a year of Open University! The OC received a phone message at six o'clock one morn- ing passing him a certain well known phrase. It is rumoured that he had his boots on before he remembered that the unit was stood down. The cross country team led by Second Lieutenants Great- head and Cousins continues to climb up the Divisional league. If we could only get them down to twenty cigarettes a day I am sure we would be in with a chance of retaining the cup. The team will miss Sergeant Berry whom Manning and Record Office have traitorously posted to 2 ADOC. To be fair, M and RO have posted in a few footballers; Sergeant Barraclough for example. Any aspiring Corps/Inter- national standard footballers are invited to apply for a posting to 1 ADOC. In fact anyone with a left and a right foot would be welcome at the moment! Farewell to GSM Patchitt, Sergeants Linton and Ferrier, Lance Corporals Hollinsworth and Ahmed and Private Hawes. Congratulations to CSM Patchitt on his well deserved pro- motion and many thanks for taking two OFPs, amalgamating them and moving the new unit to its present location. New arrivals not already mentioned are W02 Le Quelenec, Lance Corporal Callear, Privates Malone and Powell. Finally, warmest greetings to new arrivals of a different kind and congratulations to Sergeant and Mrs Fogg and Craftsman and Mrs Windle. STORES PLATOON 7 ARMOURED WORKSHOP A LITTLE light relief was obtained when the Platoon was asked to act as enemy to the Workshop JMC, and as this course had been trained by our own Lance Corporal Mark Snelson (MTI), we were determined to prove we were best. After selecting an ambush position we were quietly waiting for our victims when a group of American soldiers decided to use the same position for part of the escape and evasion exercise they were running. After top level discussion and possession being nine tenths of the law they were soon rapidly redirected. Our ambush was a total success and the last we saw of the JMC course was receding specks in the distance as they ran across an open snow covered, moonlit field. Has anyone seen JMC course No. 19? Answers please on a post card to The closure of 59 Station Workshop looms ever nearer and the movement of stores into the Platoon gets greater every day. The sight of a certain SSM prowling up and down the new half a million pound storehouse muttering that somebody in higher authority has turned his storehouse into a **** yard has to be seen to be believed! — 380 •orSsso^H^^^^^^^ up on y courscs ctc was wc an tru ' " d 'y W00*^~^^^ P u t t t n e t c s t - Not ^^^^ surprising there have been more people on courscs than on leave during the past two months—must be some sort of record. Highlight of the month must be the rebadging of our two tame ' hamsters' (R. Hamps), Lance Corporal Ginge Elliott and Private Les Lovatt. They were presented with the RAOC badges and accoutrements by the Commander Supply, 2nd Armoured Division, Lieutenant Colonel Baugham. We hope they will be happy in the Corps notwithstanding the extra two years in Germany. Sergeant Ron Eden and Corporal Phil Hussey are both off to sunny Portugal with 1 KOSB on Exercise Night Echo. They have promised to bring back samples from Oporto, if they have the time—Captain Martin anxiously awaits their return. The CQMS Staff Sergeant Paul Thayrc attended and passed an Infantry Range Management course in the snowy wastes of Sennelager and now talks about templates and CZPs, whatever they are. Corporal Povey receiving his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal from Brigadier Helmsley, Commander 5 Field Force. PC and A have at last managed to parade their full com- plement of staff in the Office with the exception of WOIC Geoff Collinge who is in Berlin on a swimming course. Privates Ray Ferguson, Ginge Goatcher and Martin Noonan have returned from Blackdown having remustered as Supply Clerks. Private Martin Noonan also qualified as a B2 Radio Operator at Lecon- fiejd (someone had to -pass this course eventually). Corporal Mick Pays passed a Bl course and now believes he can do Staff Sergeant Ted Curtis' job. Lance Corporals Ian Sharpe, Fuzz Fazerkerley, Brian Smith and Private Steve Duffield have passed their Land Rover driving |
