FORCE ORDNANCE
COMPANY
NOT having graced the pages of THE GAZETTE for some months
we thought that news from the Force Ordnance Company in
Belize might be welcome.
Our main news item, though perhaps now history, is the
visit of DGOS in early December. The four day visit included
a tour of all the main camps in Belize as well as a detailed look
at the Company. In addition Sergeant Pete Cooney was presented
with his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by the DGOS,
an event that Sergeant Cooney was most insistent we report,
since his name has not yet appeared in a GAZETTE news feature
(or so he would have us believe!). On the eve of his departure
the DGOS was treated to sumptuous barbeque in the RAOC
Club hut which was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The
DGOS departed on the Friday after what we consider to have
been a most satisfactory visit.

Last month we toiled our way through Exercise Montezuma's
Revenge II. Men of the Company valiantly manned the bunkers
until our notional reliefs arrived and we got back to the ' paper
war' in earnest. One of the more exciting moments of the
exercise was the discovery of a potential NODUF car bomb.
W02 Frank Smith (known locally as FATWO) took great delight
in ' dealing with it.' Fears were unfounded and we later dis-
covered that the car belonged to an employee of Government
House. No big t'ing man.
Now, at last, the rainy season is over and with temperature
rising daily, brows beaded with perspiration are a common
sight. Perhaps because of the heat water sports are a big
feature of life in this part of the world. Our own two ' water
babies' WOl Ian Major, the Force Ordnance Warrant Officer,
and Sergeant Tony Long have spent a lot of time and effort
recently with help from several others refitting a boat for the
use of the Company. ' St Barbara ' (what else?) did not fare too
well on her maiden voyage and is now back in dry dock. Are
FOWO's threats to keel-haul his chief engineer really in earnest?
The most recent event on the sporting scene was an inter-
platoon soccer match. After a close and well-fought game the
Stores Platoon scored two goals in the closing minutes to win
six four over the Combat Supplies Platoon.
Due to the brevity of tours here we have had many arrivals
and departures over the past months, so here goes! We welcome
Captain Willox, Captain Stamps, W02 Franks, Staff Sergeant
Wade, Sergeant Long, Lance Corporals Stewart, Rothwell and
Higgins. To Captain Veal, W02 Mills, Staff Sergeant Green,
Sergeant Bowlby, Corporals Duthie and Regan, Lance Corporals
Hobson and Smith we say a fond farewell.
