JUDO
CHAMPION
LANCE CORPORAL TONY FRANKLIN is to be congratulated
on being awarded the McRae Trophy and becoming the Bantam
Weight 1981 BAOR Army Judo Champion. To achieve such
results demands dedication and lots of practice.
Tony who hails from Birmingham, took up the sport of
judo at the ripe age of seven and by his fifteenth birthday had
won the British Junior Championships. Since joining the Army
in 1976 he has represented the English International team
and both the Inter and Combined Services teams. He gained
no fewer than fourteen medals.
Tony also runs the Judo Club for the teenagers and
youngsters of Forward Ordnance Depot, Dulmen. He was
rewarded for his voluntary work when most of his students
gave up a Saturday to support him in the BAOR Champion-

the call by raising the sum of £425—almost £9 per head.

SAVING
STORAGE
SERGEANT FREDERICK LAWRENCE of Forward Ord-
nance Depot Dulmen was recently presented with a cheque for
£150 by the Chief of Staff BAOR Major General Taylor.
Sergeant Lawrence received the reward for his suggestion, made
jointly with W02 R. B. Lear. This resulted in the redesign of
Storage Containers used in the Mobilisation Stores Sub-Depot,
Dulmen. Substantial savings in storage have been made with
similar savings in space and vehicles. Their suggestion also
saves in packaging materials and, in heated storage accom-
modation.
The Mayor receives the cheque.
