Transcription Departures this month arc Staff Sergeant Bill Gregory,
Corporal Dave Walker and Sergeant Scousc Molloy to whom
we extend our gratitude for their efforts with the unit.
W u l f e n Station
V>j(V
WE arc delighted to report that- the long
>^B^)\
awaited opening of the Station Amenities 1
jg^vj|R|tt
Centre finally took place, when Mrs

Mary Whallcy, the wife of DOS (BAOR),
^^T.^.y^^tti
declared the building open before a large

audience of station wives and assorted

military personnel, all in search of (he

' free cuppa.' Unfortunately, the official

photographers film failed to function,
^MflMp^
however a suitably inscribed plaque

records the event.
The visit of the DOS and Mrs Whallcy was closely followed
by that of the Vice Quartermaster General, Major General
Thome, who found time in a hectic programme conducted at
breakneck speed, to present Long Service and Good Conduct
Medals to three members of the Sergeants Mess, Sergeants
Geordie Fielding, Alex Kelly and Edward Robinson. Subsequent
festivities lasted well into the night.
The local social event of the year was undoubtedly the
marriage in St Barbara's School, of Corporal Michael Cuthbert
of the ATO department and Miss Julie Gilmartin, daughter of
that station stalwart, Sergeant Tom Gilmartin. The station
turned out in force, both for the service and afterwards in the
Sergeants Mess for the reception and party. Sergeant Gilmartin,
in what was to be his final fling before posting to Kineton, pulled
out all the stops and stage managed an event that was worthy
of his reputation as the unit ' fixer.' Both he and his wife
Edie, will be missed by the Station and in particular, by St
Barbara's School.
The station sports scene is looking good at present, with the
soccer team, after a lean spell, consolidating their position at the
top of the Rhine Area League.
The hockey team have also recorded some notable wins but
the cross country team are, alas, still running.
INVENTORY
CONTROL POINT. Congratulations go out
to Corporals Liz Smart, Gail Larcom and Chris Frost of the
ADP Cell on their promotion and also to Lance Corporal Tracy
Bowles. Tracy is the soft voice many of our readers will hear
when phoning through Priority Indents. As to whether this new
found power will result in her rejecting indents, only time will
tell.
Corporal Lez Law and Corporal, now Sergeant Jon Lovcll
have been replaced in the Issues Cell by Corporal John Grice
and Corporal Mark Foreman. Sergeant Maggi Devlin WRAC
found she could not keep away from Vierscn and after an
absence of only one year is back again. She has been given
the task of sorting out the back loading procedures with the
help of Lance Corporal Sharon Conyon.
ICP has been suffering a high degree of injuries and sickness
recently with Captain Harry Jones. Mr Keith Jeffreys, Staff
Sergeant Cass Clayton and Sergeant Phil Bushnell all in and,
happily out of hospital. Three of the four suffering from
damaged legs on the sports field. Could it be that bones
become brittle as one gets older?
Most of the wives of ICP staff have been treated to coffee
mornings with Mrs Sally Gill—how she managed to keep a level
head with the chatter of women, the running around of pre-
school age children, dogs and her guinea pigs is anyones guess.
Staff Sergeant Pete Marsh, the ICP Greyhound is under-
going intensive training at present preparing himself for the
Interservice Marathon this month.
FORWARD ORDNANCE DEPOT DULMEN
STORES SUB-DEPOT. Another busy month has passed for the
SSD. Whilst Lance Corporals Bostock and Robinson and
Privates Weaving, Tinkler, Walker and Tippen. have been pass-
ing their RPC2 course, the rest of the ' gang' have been beaver-
ing away processing our forty thousand monthly issues. The
' 2IC' returned from his English—Irish course (see last GAZETTE)
but promptly left again to join Wintex and broaden his know-
ledge even further. Sergeants Sebburn and Legg have also been
qualifying as QTOs and Private Walker is shortly to attend a
Vehicle Specialist course.
We would like to welcome Corporal Punchard and his
family, and Mrs Smith to the fold. Mrs Smith, catcher of
the ' silver burglers' (see March GAZETTE) has come to join the
' Dulmen Dollies' of Building 2 (someone has called them the
Tantilising Ten), and we hope that packing cartons and Jiffy
bags will come as a light relief after looking after her husband,
W02 Smith of the MSSD.
FVD Recklinghausen
THE FVD Dct Hildcsheim is now functioning. NCO IC is Staff
Sergeant Paul Farrelly whose face has brightened up our R and I
office for the past two years and Corporal Allen Stevens, after a
short stay with us here at Recklinghausen will also be per-
manently detached.
MOBILISATION STORES SUB-DEPOT. We have two people
away on Snow Queen, WOl Pat Moore (it makes a change from
running) and Sergeant Ian Davies (it just makes a change).
Private Geordie Parker has decided to become the fourth
Musketeer and is at present doing a fencing course. Lance
Corporal Roger Moody has just passed his B3 clerks course
and is employed in Mob C and A. Speaking of C and A we
had the great ceremony recently of the laying of the first brick
in the New Office Complex in Shed Twelve, this will become
the heart of Mob. This should be the end of the moving of the
Offices, but the clerks are planning an escape, so watch for the
next instalment.
LOANS AND REPAIR SUB-DEPOT. Rumour has it that the
OC (Major Cowan) is getting posting happy—not long to go
now Sir. Sergeant Nobby Clark has finally left us—work that
is, and is on leave prior to going back to the delights of UK
on promotion.
It has finally been decided that Corporal Chris McKinnon
is not going anywhere until August at least—see last months
notes. Sergeant Rick Osborne is trying vainly to learn Chinese
as he has just learned where his next posting is—lucky devil.
Staff Sergeant John Smith is back to work after his EPC(A)
course and due to him being PEC of the Sergeants Mess we see
less of him now than we did when he was on his course.
Now that the snow has finally left us for good (we hope)
Corporals Taff Woolley and Taff Bannister are extremely busy
trying to organise rugby fixtures for the Unit team. Mean-
while screams can be heard drifting from the Unit drill square
as Lance Corporal Jones and Private Murray are put through
their paces on their RPC2 course, but more about that next
month.

The V Q M G being met by Major Braithwaite at Recklinghausen.
It is not true that FVD personnel have switched to combat
caps as berets are now available from Staff Sergeant George
Cairns our CQMS (Private Revill take note).
Captain Haywards dog ' Rags' is dearly looking forward to
his owners return from leave, because six miles a day is a bit too
much when your legs are only nine inches long even though he
has four. So if your owner goes on leave or on a course and you
are the lazy type of dog don't stay with our OC, Major Braith-
waite, who is a self confessed runaholic.
On the sporting scene the unit provides many members of
the Wulfen Station sporting front at Football (currently top of
the North Rhine Area soccer league), cross country, rugby (when
they can get a fixture) and hockey. The unit squash team,
Sergeant Tim Murphy, Corporals Maxy Bonsu, John McGonagle
