Transcription It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to W01 Ken
Blackwell and his wife. Mr Blackwcll was last seen wearing
a dark blue pullover—was he gardening perhaps? We also say
goodbye to Mrs Lynne Wightman who is off to follow her
husband to Ireland.
Welcome to W02 Tony Collins and his wife. Sporting a
Cyprus sun tan he is the envy of us all. Welcome also to
Mrs Sue Ramsdale.
Our galant football team played 1 Combat Supplies and beat
them seven one in the DOS BAOR Cup Quarter Final. Well
done lads!
PS. We finally said goodbye to Second Lieutenant Ian
Gorsuch. All the best from us all.
79 SUPPLY DEPOT
THE change over to the computer went without too much
trauma, though some doubts were raised when the OC asked
the CQMS for a strong three foot length of rope. All doubts/
hopes were swiftly allayed/dashed however when it was found
securing his briefcase to his pushbike.
The bad weather continues to plague the inter-departmental
potted sports programme, with badminton being the only game
to be unaffected. Sergeant Alfie Marks, our resident referee,
carries out his Friday morning inspections of the footbal pitch
with monotonous regularity, but so far the snow refuses to melt.
We say farewell to Sergeant Marks on posting to Bicester
and Sergeant Roy Finer who goes just down the road to Herford.
We welcome in their place Sergeants Davie Walsh ond Keith
Doughton and hope their stay with the Fighting 79th will be a
happy one.
STORES SECTION 45 FIELD REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
THIS month we are very proud to report that our Judo expert
Private Bill Painter took part in the BAOR Individual Judo
Championships held at Sennelager. Bill gained a creditable
second place in both the Middle Weight and Open Class B
contests.
There are also a large number of children and adults in
Hohne Station who wish Bill success as he runs judo classes
four times a week for Station members and their families.
Also on the sporting scene our Raging Bull Sergeant Barry
Moore, was selected as a member of the RAOC team which
played several rugby matches in BAOR.
Latest news on the Postings scene, Corporal Tommy
Laverick nearly got to Hong Kong but not quite, however, he
will make an excellent addition to the team at 2nd Division
Engineer Regiment Stores Section.

HEADQUARTERS
SPRING at last in Lubbecfce, and the
snow retreats for yet another year. We
awaken to mild pleasant mornings and
wonder how soon the faithful well worn
heavy wool can me mothballed, serviced,
repaired and stored until its services are
next required.
Packing and preservation any ideas
ques spring is in the air and young mens
hearts and minds turn to thoughts of Ord ancillaries, hardening
and reducing trials, demand and supply aggravations, financial
restraint, well perhaps next year we can afford to sometimes
think of other things.
Wintex has been and gone, handled in toto by our 2IC
Major Jim Steele and his left arm W02 Bill Tonkins. Simon
stayed at home.
We all attended a branch dinner recently in splendid
surroundings of Hotel Bohne to express our welcome to Mrs
Baughan the wife of the CRAOC. Please continue to look
after him well Mrs Baughan, none are safe during these days
of hardening and reducing. The dinner served a dual purpose
by allowing us to say farewell to WOl Alan Pedley and his
wife Isobel who have finally left us for a tour in Bicester on
commissioning. We extend best wishes to them both. Our
service from Bicester is expected to increase by one hundred
per cent. Prior to his departure Mr Pedley was presented with.
the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by our former
CRAOC, Colonel Jackson, now of Headquarters BAOR.
Leave passes are being submitted in the fervent hope that
one may succeed. Any of our subscribers who wish to speak
to the Adjutant Captain Mike Southworth should first contact
the missing persons bureau.

Preparations for Exercise Bronze Key are well under way
and individuals toils and achievements will be reported in the
next issue. Your author must now leave to deal with yet another
supply problem—the availability of seed potatoes in Lubbccke.
87 SUPPLY DEPOT
CORPORAL IAN McGILL has left us for a six months tour
in Belize. Coincidcntally, two days after his departure, BFBS
television showed a programme on Belize, and Rene, Ian's wife,
felt envious at the sight of a warm and pleasant environment
whilst she and her family were experiencing the rigours of a
harsh winter in Munster.
M and RO have obviously realised how much we missed
Ian's services and have posted Private Dave Miller. Within a
few days of arrival he celebrated his eighteenth birthday by
taking on the job of permanent barman of the 87 Club. Wel-
come to the fold Dave and don't be disillusioned that the whole
Corps are Senior Ranks—there are a couple of other private
soldiers hidden away somewhere!
Staff Sergeant Enno Olden's beast, our newly installed
computer, has at last gone live and all ration indents are now
' untouched by human hands.' It is a great pity that the com-
puter hasn't been programrncd to complete the monthly returns,
including the Ration Bulletin, but the Chief Clerk (Admin)
Sergeant Clive Hitchcock informs us that Orderly Rooms are
now being considered for computerisation—hopefully to include
the returns!
STORES PLATOON 15 FIELD
WORKSHOP
WE welcome Lance Corporals John Entwistle and Kirk Mc-
Carter who replace Lance Corporals Paul Cartwright and Steve
Walker respectively. We also congratulate Paul on his forth-
coming marriage and wish Paul and Inge a happy stay at Kine-
ton.
Corporal Brian Low and Private Jeff Jones were recently
selected for the RAOC BAOR soccer squad. Unfortunately
Brian Low was unable to attend due to a course, but Jeff played
in the game against R Signals. Private Mark Harvey starred
for the unit orienteering team and Lieutenant Simon Hall, Lance
Corporals Paul Tonks and John Wilson and Privates Jeff Jones
and Mick Callaghan continue to figure in the Workshop Foot-
ball team which despite losing the semi-final of the Minor Units
Cup has now reached the Craftsman Cup semi-final.
Corporal Joe Leatherbarrow is congratulated on a success-
ful EPC course, Joe also continues to star as the unit NBC
instructor. Corporal Chippy Wood is keeping his fingers crossed
for Oldham Athletic (we all have our problems) and Lance
Corporal Martin Stevens is counting the days before he leaves
for Belize. Lance Corporal Stan Preston is saving up for some
new clothes as his diet has resulted in the loss of a stone and
Private Scooter Foye is still resisting all efforts to persuade him
to join the one days pay scheme. Scooter—are you reading
this in someone else's GAZETTE?

tion anything about
football until a later date. A unit rugby team was formed this
month and W02 'Ain't havin i t ' Collinge volunteered as coach.
The first game was against 1st Armoured Division Ordnance
Company and the final score of twenty four to nil to them was
well deserved though their players agreed after the game that
it was a tough match, the bruised ribs and gashed knees were
proof enough. I firmly believe with coaching, a few more
matches and a seemingly strong feeling for the game the team
will cause a few upsets. Table tennis seems to be the craze
at the moment. With the guidance of Lance Corporal Ian
Sharpe our admirable Orderly Room clerk Private Nigel Howard
organised a Table Tennis League Ladder. Ian Sharpe who is
now in second position in the league is doing his best to keep
away from those below him. This is not surprising as he
wants to avoid a repetition of a twenty one to five result. All
in all the interest shown in the game has been very encouraging.
I hope to give some more news on the progress of this game
in the next GAZETTE news.
