Corporal Brummie Thynne, who success-

fully kicked the most vital conversion of

sergeant! We congratulate Brummie on his long awaited pro-
notion and also congratulate Sergeant Mick Haverty and Private
Don Rollins who played starring roles in the team's success.
Also on the sporting front Sergeant Pete Arnold's Headquarters
RAOC Football Team emerged victorious in its warm up match
for the DGOS Cup. Next stop Corps Troops Ord Company!
Corporal Chris Dick is in the u hot seat * at the moment
standing in for Mick Haverty, our Chief Clerk, who is away
being educated. This leaves Sergeant Al Dunn alone in the
C Sups office with our new S02 Major Simon Scourfield-Evans
who has arrived, complete with prototype ' flasher 1 mac, from
DCT, to take over from Major Mike Stacey. Major Stacey was
dined out by Headquarters RAOC at a very successful social
evening at which we also said farewell to Major Ray Wilson
our intrepid * Long Looker' and welcomed Lance Corporal Bill
Share who joins us on promotion. We tried (again) to wel-
come Private Smudge Smith but he ' got involved ' in a Barrack
in-night and was unable to join us. If you haven't got a sense
of humour
Our newly married Adjutant, Captain Simon Hall, continues
to limp around the Headquarters saying he'll never play rugby
again, Major Mike Dalley is busy planning exercises, W 2 Bill
Tonkins is basking in the glory of another successfully organised
2nd Armoured Division Golf Meeting and our DOWO team of
WO I Jim McGowan, W02 Greg Gregory and Lance Corporal
Tony Broadbent are wrestling with the mysteries of casualty
bag returns! And now a word from our colleagues upstairs.
Under the watchful eye of the Super Clerk WO I Jim Prior
and Chief Clerk Staff Sergeant Keith Newman, the Clerks of
G Branch are eagerly trying to prove their worth in time for
leave passes. Top of the list comes Corporal Brian Parsons,
who received a glowing report for his contribution on
Exercise Red Claymore, and Private Steve Prime, who also
received a good report, from Vogelsang, followed closely by
Private Paul Jenkins.
Recently there have been a few changes in the office; Mrs
Linda Simpson has left to add to the world's population and we
would like to welcome Mrs Anne Dump, our new typist. Privates
Mitchel and Evans arrived straight from Basic Training, we also
congratulate Staff Sergeant Mai Blackburn on his recent pro-
motion. and Corporal Andy Cotton on finishing top of his
recent RPC2 Course.
The past few weeks have been very (too) hectic for the
Staff Clerks of G1/G4 Branch in Tax Haus Lubbecke. Added
to the miserable weather, W 2 Phil Percival, Corporal Marc
Bunn and Private Mick Crean were forced to undergo the
hazards of their Annual NBC tests and APWT. Smiling and
covered with fullers earth, they all returned to the office having
successfully completed the strange rituals connected with these
annual events. Life goes on at a hectic pace for the Clerks of
G1/G4 Ops who have decided that it would be easier to live in
Tax House rather than use up valuable petrol coupons travelling
home to their married quarters for the odd hour or two!
STORES PLATOON 15 FIELD
WORKSHOP
THIS time of year has had the normal round of PRE's Boards of
Officers, Audits and Technical Reviews.
These particular
hurdles have been satisfactorily surmounted. Corporal ' Wally *
Preston and the lads in the MT made sure that the vehicles were
in pristine condition for the PRE while Staff Sergeant Roger
Blackwood and our merry band of Sup Clks have eagerly
beavered on the accounts, ready for Brigadier Simpson the
Reviewing Officer.
Fortunately, the past month has not been all work-
Military training and sport have been predominant. A ten
mile * bash ' in full kit proved to be an opportunity for a sing
song and of course sore feet. NBC training the following week
demonstrated the difficulties in changing a wheel in full NBC
equipment. Set against the clock this simple task was a hot,
sweaty experience. In the field of sport the platoon continues
to provide a strong element for the Workshop football side.
As of late the results have been disappointing except that is for
a twenty nil victory over the local Army Air Corps side. Other
sporting activities contrast to football have been ping-pong,
hockey, and swimming- Private Sid Rutter is a promising deep
diver while Corporal Harry Pelting has been nicknamed ' t u r t l e '
due to his unusual aquatic style.
As usual we have a member of personnel on Courses.
Lance Corporal Tonks, Privates Jones and Foye are all enjoy-
ing the rigours of a RPC2 Course.
Staff Sergeant Benny
Gorbould is busy studying for his EPC(A) and Lieutenant Carins
has just returned from a fencing Course.
An interesting and an amusing event was Corporal Leather-
barrows drive down an unopened motorway in England. ' Old
Bill' thought it funny too—was it not strange not to see any
other vehicles Corporal Leatherbarrow?

Company ' P u b night.'
We had decided to have a night of self produced entertainment
and what a night it turned out to be. We had acts of the calibre,
of Elton Loo and Mangrove (OC and Trg Offr). The Albert
Players (2IC and Ord Room), Pans Cripples (PC and A), The
Riffle Skifflers (various artists) and the Warehouse (Stores Shed)
players. The finale was to be, community hymn singing, or so
we thought. Two members, however, chose to demonstrate
their skill with a couple of unused stage ' custard pies.* Second
Lieutenant Phillip and Mrs Matthews must have made military
history. You see, he was standing there with this custard pie
when the CSM's wife
he lived to tell the tale! Exercise
commitments permitting we shall start our world wide tour
shortly. Windsor Davies and Co watch out!
On the sporting front our Company soccer team has lived'up
to the boasts of Sergeant Brian Robertson (see GAZETTE Notes
for November) and are, at the time of writing, unbeaten after
five league matches and have also beaten our rivals from ' Up
the road ' 2 ADOC by six goals to one in a recent DOS (BAOR)
Cup, though 1 have heard that after several misses lately by
other team members, W02 Ted Curtis, our goalkeeper, now
takes our penalties.
Staff Sergeants Ray Brooks and Dave Jamieson have just
returned after successfully completing a Helicopter Abseiling
course. When you asked for some equipment for the Company
we didn't think you would include a couple of Pumas Ray!
Congratulations are also in order for Lance Corporal Jim
Pow on passing his unit Documentation and Unit Projectionist
Courses—which must mean something and Private Frank Irving
who is now a Sup O k B3 and is talking about taking over PC
and A.
Unfortunately Private Ricky Rizvi failed his motorbike
driving test as the motorbike finished the test before he did!
Try to stay on next time Ricky,
On the promotion scene we congratulate Lieutenant Worrall
—who has now promised to work harder, on promotion to
Captain and to Privates Morris and Noonan on promotion to
Lance Corporal.
Belated congratulations are in order to Lance Corporal
Fazakerley and Anne on their marriage* we wish you all happiness
for the future. (Will you now get off my back Foz.)
We welcome to the Company Lance Corporal Martin
Stevens (again) and Private Joe Gregan back from 4 Petroleum
Depot and sadly say goodbye to Lance Corporals Cramman and
Wayne Kenyon.
Last and by no means least we congratulate the following
members of the Company who participated and completed the
Bielefeld Marathon a total distance of twenty six miles three
hundred and eighty five yards. The team was, with times: —
