Transcription this year again. It is a race between him and SATO who gets
there first. Our SATO is rather hampered just at the moment
due, we think, to the forthcoming DLSA Inspection.
wins for the Soccer XI and fifty per cent are losses sustained by
the rugger XV. However, the latter are not dispirited as they
enjoy all aspects of the game and as the squad now numbers
more than twenty five including several newcomers to the game
there is much to play for in future. The soccer team's victories
include wins in the Minor Units Cup first round and, most
notably, the capture of the Patenschaft Cup from our rivals but
friends of the German Army ' Die Nachschub Kompanie.' A
party of marchers with Sergeant Price at the helm took part in
the Marche de Val du Maine outside Paris. This was over a
very rugged fifty five kilometre course which was completed by
all our fourteen man team to achieve the coveted team award
in addition to individual medals. If verbal reports are to be
believed medals are also deserved by our intrepid fourteen for
surviving the rigours of Paris by night!
43 RP COMPANY.
Hello again! The Company continues to
grow in strength ably supported by Sergeant Drew and Lance
Corporal Harvey, who have promised to make an effort to lose
weight before next month's notes.
We recently entertained the families of 43 Company to an
Open Day. Our guests were the Commanding Officer, Major
Ian and Jan Bradley, Padre Roger Davies and family. Captain
Steve and Liz Clarkson, and WOl Galloway and family. Need-
less to say, the weather was superb (thank you Roger). After
drinks and a splendid bar-b-que, prepared and served by
Corporal Duckett and Lance Corporal Nevitt (ACC). ably
assisted by our civilian kitchen staff. A good time was had by all.
Private Jones has returned to the fold rather sooner than
expected from the Basic Driver Training Course! Report com-
ments intimated that this man could be a suitable replacement
for the retiring Nicki Lauder. However, back to Eager Beavers,
Jonesy!
The Second-in-Command, Captain Tony Ward, in his new
role as Security Officer, has been seen driving an MF Tractor
around the Depot. It has been suggested that he may be train-
ing for the forthcoming BFT.
Congratulations go to Sergeant Cooper, Lance Corporal
Pawsey and Private Nevitt (ACC) on promotion. Also to
Private and Mrs Tai on the birth of their son, Earl James.
We welcome Staff Sergeants Wilks and Green, Privates
Taylor, Blackburn, Hall, Love and Lovett, and bid farewells to
Lance Corporals Smith and Mitchell.
Afterthoughts: Captain Ian Jones is about to assassinate
the Post NCO; the CQMS is thinking of becoming a part-time
soldier; Rafael has volunteered for his job. Lieutenant Neal
Jobbings has decided to try harder; Captain Geoff Atherton has
applied for appearance money in future golf competitions . . . .
and Q Burkin still can't play dominoes.
44 RP COMPANY. The quiet late summer season continues un-
interrupted except by work, courses, leave and other such mun-
dane matters. We are experiencing a sunny spell, which, with
the autumn colours, makes the Depot a nice place to be (unless
you happen to be a sweeper up of leaves).
All departments are ticking over quietly with the possible
exception of—regular readers will know what comes next—the
SIMMO area. Yes; the movement of stones in boxes on
pallets continues to keep large numbers of BAOR personnel
busy. Jokes apart, the activity in fact fulfills an important
need in the training of BAOR logistic Units. The realisation
of its importance is shown by the growth of our stock to six
thousand tons.
SNCO in charge of ' Sim' is new arrival Staff Sergeant
Brian Reid who with the assistance of Corporal John Goulden
(mainly employed at present on constructing the all weather
Sim repair/rebuild shed which looks more like a Scandinavian
Sauna every day), Lance Corporal Pete O'Neill (away on a
course for a month), various Supply Specialists, Eager Beaver
drivers and MCLG, keep the exercises going.
Plans to convert the CQMS Store into the Unit gym are
now well advanced.
Welcome to the Company W02 Meilors, Staff Sergeant
Ried, Corporals McAteer and Pountain, Lance Corporal Paul
(from Battalion Headquarters) Private Machen (ACC) and
Lance Corporal Hart (REME).
We say farewell to Sergeant Donnelly, Lance Corporal
Donaldson (to Battalion Headquarters) and Private Wright (966).
Our congratulations go to Staff Sergeant Knoll (W02)
Sergeant Terriza (Staff Sergeant) Corporal Polland (A/Sergeant)
and Private Dunbar (Lance Corporal).
Successful courses have been completed by the under-
mentioned:—Free Fall Parachuting, Lance Corporal Daisy
Adams and Private Manny Mansell; Church House Course,
Private McManus; Supply Specialist Ammunition Duties,
Private Hughes (643); Vehicle Specialist Restructuring, Private
Pete Martin and Private Smith (208) and last but not least,
RPC 3-2 Upgrading, Private Don Riding.
The team for the Marche de V a l du Marne.
As a result of a conversation between CRAOC and the OC
we were hosts to nine Volunteers provided by CVHQ to lend
a hand to PC and A and the Storehouse in removing the in-
evitable post Summer issues bulge. These excellent stalwarts
were also able to celebrate the new pay and conditions for
Volunteers and they all agreed that most important of all is the
return to the old and respected titles of ' TA ' and ' Terriers.'
Thank you gentlemen for all your help and comradeship.
Congratulations must go to two members of our LAD,
Sergeant Reeves and Lance Corporal Lee following their pro-
motions to these ranks. Departures include Sergeant Jameel.
our most popular Pay Sergeant, Corporals Panter and Docherty
and Privates Hingslon and Taylor; the last named to drive
buses in Brum. These losses are offset by the arrival of Sergeant
Stafford RAPC, Lance Corporal King and Privates Cannon,
Emberton. Malone and Stringer.
Combat Supplies Battalion
THIS month we had the sad occasion
of saying farewell to our Commanding
Officer of long standing Lieutenant
Colonel C.M.Jefferies MBE after three
years in the hot seat. We wish him
and his family all good fortune for
the future. At the same time it is our
pleasure
to welcome
Lieutenant
Colonel R. H. Dickinson our new
Commanding Officer who has now
got his feet firmly under the polished table. We hope his stay
will be a happy one.
The booming voice of the RSM (RSM Foster) can be heard
in the corridors of power once more. Despite this we do hope
he had a happy holiday in Hawaii. (He only stayed away a
month). By the tales in the Sergeants Mess there are a few
envious members.
The Adjutant pro-tern Captain Clarkson is almost at the
stage where he is tearing his hair out. We are sure that he did
not expect quite so much added responsibility with his exaltation
to that coveted position.
The Quartermaster has been seen in the Building at various
intervals. He looks rather disappointed that the sailing season
has finished, but is planning a trip to Exercise Snow Queen
