FOR YOUR 1980 DIARY LIEUTENANT COLONEL J. MONTGOMERY writes: — It is my sad duty to record the death of Lieutenant Colonel Sam Moore at the Cambridge Hospital Aldershot on 28th October 1979. Sam enlisted as a Boy in the Royal Artil- lery in 1928 and later served on the Indian Fronter. World War II saw him as a RSM in the Middlesex Regiment (AA). He transferred to the Corps in 1947 and was commissioned in April 1952; he completed his career as Staff Quartermaster to the Army Apprentices College Arborfield. Many of us who served at Blackdown in the 1 Regular Training Battalion class will remember ' Big Sam ' with affection and respect. Our sympathy goes to his wife Vicky in her bereavement. J. CAIRNS THE sad news of the death of Staff Sergeant Mick Cairns, aged forty four, in Shrewsbury Hospital, after a short illness, came as a great shock to all members of 52 Company RAOC(V). He first joined the TA at the age of twenty four in 1959 and had been CQMS for over twelve years. The whole of his spare time was devoted to the TA, and much of the training depended on his willing presence at the week-ends. He had a very cheerful personality which did much to maintain morale and Unit spirit. He was popular with all ranks and the very large turnout of Unit members, past and present, at his funeral was a fitting tribute to a volunteer who will be sadly missed. To his wife Jean and his parents, we offer our deepest sympathies in their loss. A VACANCY exists for a Mess Steward 1 in COD Donnington Officers Mess.
