Director General of Ordnance Services
SECRETARIAT AND ORD 1 : SQMS
Mick Gallagher took three days off to
take part in the RAOC Squash Cham-
pionships and he won the Novices (!)
Cup, another four days off quickly
followed to enable him to recover
from two broken ribs sustained whilst
playing soccer, however, he is happier
now that he knows where his next posting is to be and is
eagerly awaiting the arrival of his successor, be it male or
female.'
The five-a-side soccer team, after a flying start to the season
are now having mixed fortunes and it is hoped that recoveries
from a broken arm by Sergeant Dave Flinn and the Gallagher
rib trouble will ensure a return to winning ways. Lieutenant
Colonel David Harris, Major Richard Ginn,Captain Tony Browne,
SSM Mike Matthews and Staff Sergeant Paddy Snowdown
are all keen members of the team, as was Captain Mike
Knight until he almost lost a leg in a tackle from behind; he's
team coach now!
Congratulations to Mr Sandy Wilson whose success on the
recently reported Clerical Officer promotion board has been
confirmed and now he awaits the outcome of the Executive
Officers examination entered by Debbie Rice and Anita
Holloway.
Our best wishes go to Mr Dave Forrester, (EO), who has
retired after thirty three years in the Civil Service. We also
say farewell to Sergeant Cliff Payne and welcome Sergeant
Paul O'Hara from BAOR.
ORD 2. To Captains Jim O'Leary and Terry Fearn who have
left us we say farewell and good luck in their new appointments,
and to Captain Ken Young our new ADB1 and Donald Birkin
(PTOl), Deputy Advisor (Fuel and Energy) we say welcome and
hope their stay with us will be a happy one.

HEADQUARTERS
THE only event in the Secretariat is the departure of WOl A.
C. Tuck. WOl Tuck was the longest serving member of Head-
quarters DSM(A) clocking up three and a half years and seeing
us through the move from London to Andover. We wish him
well on his ' overseas ' posting to Headquarters UKLF at
Wilton! We welcome his replacement WOl P. D. Phillips from
Headquarters BAOR.
CONTROL
DIVISION
OUR photograph shows Colonel Ted Shephard (CI) leading the
runners out on the first leg of the Bicester Hash House
Harriers Charity Marathon mentioned last month. Sponsorship
monies have now been collected and Control Division raised
£335 which was a third of the total donated to Year of the
Child and Bicester Cottage Hospital.
Two weeks later the division took to the water in a cod-
fishing boat hired from Bradwell Marina.
The trip was
arranged by Sergeant Brian Linton who very wisely found a
prior commitment and missed this nautical epic. The boat spent
several hours searching the Blackwater estuary for fish most of
whom had gone away for the weekend. After the first few
had been caught Staff Sergeant Frank Fallon pulled a whiting
off the hook only to slap Captain Mike Murphy across the
face with it. Minutes later Corporal Jock Foster compounded
the injury by also smacking the boss in the face. Fish in stereo!
The trip may be repeated when memories have dimmed.
More professional excursions on the water have been
undertaken by Corporal Des Hardon who has completed an

elementary off-shore dinghy course at Falmouth prior to
crewing the Corps yacht ' Thunderer' from Falmouth to Gos-
port. Even more recently he crewed for Lieutenant Nigel
Bailey of DSCS in a dinghy match against the RAMC at Calvert
Lake.
Rugby enthusiasts in the Corps will not be upset to hear
that the Bicester Garrison team; current holders of the Hill
Cup came second last week by sixty four points to nil in a
match against 42 Survey Engineer Regiment.
Man of the
match for Bicester was Sergeant Dai Green who was running
the touch!
Morale lifted again a couple of days later when W02
Terry Webb and Sergeant Peter Lynch had a farewell lunch and
drinks in the ' Tally-Ho ' prior to their postings to Bordon and
Cyprus respectively. Also on the move but on attachment only
is Staff Sergeant Frank Fallon who is on his way to India for
a few months.
Posted in is Sergeant Bob Taylor who has just arrived from
Belize and returned to the fold from a tour with 321 EOD in
Lisburn is Lance Corporal Nigel Ings.
Congratulations are extended to Lance Corporal Kevin
Glasspool on his engagement to Miss Jean Nisbet. (The things
some people will do to get a mention in THE GAZETTE).
VEHICLE DIVISION
MISERABLE.
That's the only word to describe Vehicle
Division. We all thought that our Colonel was recovering
remarkably quickly from Forest's nil one defeat by lowly
Brighton when the news hit us—' Derby four, Nottingham
Forest one.' That's not all. Only twelve hours after the
Chancellor announced that colour TV licences were to cost
£34 (with immediate effect) what do you think lands on our
Colonel's doormat? Yes—you've got it—a TV licence renewal
reminder. But ours is not a vindictive Colonel so we all know
that his disenchantment with Brian Clough and the GPO had
nothing to do with Major Mike Pike working all last weekend.
Two surprise visitors graced MTSPB this month. Firstly,
looking more like Eric Morcambe than ever, Colonel Alan Barr.
After a spot of sick leave, Colonel Barr expects to be back at
work in time for the office parties! Our second caller, Corporal
Pete Scott, interrupted his Northern Ireland ' R and R ' to pop
in and see the lads (and absolutely nothing to do with the fact
that Colonel Vehicle Division was in the Branch at precisely the
same moment). Hurry back Pete—we're keeping those hi-pri
DO just for you.
Private ' Nobby' Clark's first born, Anthony Francis (aged
two weeks), wonders which trade to ask for. After a short
debate Section B4 agreed that if clerical aptitude was hereditary,
