Transcription ' One days work, three weeks leave, and a new house.' (Can I
have a vacancy on the next course?).
CRAOC and our S02 (Mat) Major Gil Buthrie visited a
coal mine a few weeks ago and apparently spent an enjoyable
time washing away the coal dust in the Managerial Canteen,
and I am told a few old songs were rehashed on the return
journey, such as " You are my Hearts desire." Those left
behind resisted the temptation to quote that old saying about
" No Fuel like an old Fuel."
We welcome to the Headquarters WOl Ken Giddings who
assumes the appointment of Superintendent Clerk and WOl
Peter Morris who is completing his final six months with us
and will be employed in ' G ' Branch for that period. We say a
fond farewell to WOl Gerry Barnes who is leaving the Head-
quarters for the delights of Donnington although we are pleased
to see that he will be continuing to live in Shrewsbury.
ACCOMMODATION SERVICES UNIT. Work continues at a
hectic pace with the occupation of Tern Hill Camp looming
even closer. Major Peter Owen spent a few days in the local
hospital, however he is now back at work and we hope that he
will make a full recovery in due course.
Lance Corporal Joe Charleson is presented with his RAOC cap
badge by Colonel Harverson af South West District on transfer
from the Royal Artillery.
bers it came through while he was attending a course at the
School of Ordnance.
Welcome back to our globe trotters: Lance Corpora) Mick
Gilbert returned after a nine months tour in Canada and
Private David Needham who arrived back after an attach-
ment with 7 Field Force on Exercise Moonbase V in Cyprus.
Captain Fred Moughton the Depot Officer, complete with
wet jumping suit (Fred is a member of the Para Section of
421 EOD RAOC), visited his old school in Ipswich as part of a
recruiting campaign. On the sporting scene our Depot Superin-
tendent, W02 Ted Shreeve, has been in great demand as a
judge at various boxing competitions, the latest as far afield
as Pudsey in Yorkshire.
Our Master Butcher, Sergeant Jim Sharrock, was the
runner-up in the RAOC Novices Squash Championships and has
since represented the Corps team. Staff Sergeant Alan Coulbeck
has also been selected to play badminton for the Corps. Well
done to both of them.
Eastern District
CONSPICUOUS or not we appear to have
been absent from these pages for some
time past due probably to the departure of
the one person on the staff who did joined-
up writing and could read and write at the
same time. Be that as it may, the number
of changes in Eastern District are not as
large as may have been anticipated. W02
Dick Swann our ROWO left us for Cyprus
on one of those non-refusable-offer tours.
During his stay here and in between a spell
in Belize, he took on the role of the Brian Clough of Pebmarsh,
a nearby village where he instructed the young in football and
athletics, and where they were greatly appreciative of his efforts.
He has been replaced by W02 Barry Leaf from Dulmen who
although somewhat in the dark in matters of Combat Supplies
is able, we understand, to distinguish between a pork pie and a
pumpkin which should stand him in good stead in the world of

STORES SECTION, 10 FIELD WORKSHOP
IT seems long overdue for this Unit to make itself known to
fellow Corps members. We have a combined Military/Civilian
establishment, consisting of eleven civilians and the following
military:—Lieutenant Hendy, WOl Fagg, Staff Sergeant Orr,
Sergeant, Griffiths, Corporals Berrett and Campbell, Lance
Corporals Barraclough and Bickell. We said goodbye to Cap-
tain Norman Stack on posting to Cyprus. The Units Armoured
Support Platoon detachment recently deployed to BAOR on
Exercise Steel Trap commanded by Staff Sergeant Orr, total
strength being one! It turned out to be a very successful
exercise on his part, particularly regarding availability of Major
Assemblies. He was said to have had the assemblies at the
right time, at the right place and supplied in the most economical
manner. However, he is still suffering from a back ailment.
On the football scene we have WOI Les Fagg's appointment as
Secretary of the South West District Referees Association.
W e s t Midland District
HEADQUARTERS.
We must report all
personnel fit and well having completed
our BFTs.
The Shrewsbury Strollers are on the
move again shortly when they attempt
to cross Shropshire's infamous Long
Mynd which overlooks CRAOCs front
garden and includes such delightful
sounding places as ' Cow Ridge,' the
' Devils Mouth ' and last but by no means least ' Pillocks Green,'
the mind boggles.
Our S02 (Combat Supplies) Major Adam Woodward has
returned to the fold after an enjoyable ' rest' in Corfu; he has
recently purchased a house which he is busily converting into a
' Gentlemans Residence' contrary to rumours about his
' Bachelor Pad.'
The DOWO WOl Bill Oliver completed a Management
Course recently and has put it to test. So far he has managed
