Transcription up some respectable scores, notably in the Chairman's Cup
League which we currently lead.
We also congratulate Sergeant Crabbe on promotion to
Staff Sergeant and Staff Sergeant Kersley to W02. And finally
we welcome our new arrivals, Sergeants Pearce and O'Toole as
well as saying farewell to Staff Sergeants Berry and Cork.
FORWARD ORDNANCE DEPOT DULMEN
ANOTHER busy month for the Depot, although with the
despatch by Chinook and Wessex of the last load of stores
for Exercise Red Gauntlet, the noise level has returned to
normal.
The Staff Band held a very successful and highly acclaimed
concert for an Anglo-German audience in the town.
The
evening was opened by the CO who presented a cheque for
DM5,000 to the Burgermeister. The money, half of the profits
from the recent Kaiserschutzenfest, will be used for a local
charity. The other half has been donated to the RAOC Aid
Society.
The cross country team—now managed by Major Wright
as Captain Jelly has now left us for the Apprentices College,
continues to be successful and has just retained the Army Minor
Units Relay Championships for the second successive year.
Corporal Mick Binks has recently been selected for the Army
Cross Country Team and has retained the Rhine Area Individual
Championship.
New arrivals are: Captain Parsons and Captain Evans
RAPC, W02 Simpson, Corporal Bousfield and Privates Blyth,
Howes and Jennings.
Departures: Captain Jelly, WOs2 Lear and Hall, Sergeant
i Foster, Corporal King, Lance Corporals Goodall, Stinthorp on
i Operation Banner, Walsh, Wooley to Belize, Privates Rodden
' and Singh.
i
Lance Corporal (again) Campbell has left us for a rest in
the Emerald Isle with 321 EOD.
The following are to be congratulated on being provisionally
selected for substantive promotion to Lance Corporal: A/Lance
Corporal Gallacher, Privates O'Hara and Ellison.
We say farewell to Corporal John Howard who is off to
the sunny climes of Kineton and to welcome Sergeant Rob
Cunningham-Norton.
Footnote: If you should ever meet CSM Tod Slaughter on
your travels ask him what he got from the typing pool for his
birthday!

AT long last, the TA Pool season has ended and we are now
rounding up our stocks. The operation of the Pool for the
first time, has been a daunting task for the Depot and kept
everyone extremely active. We have also had more than our
fair share of Inspections over the past month. The calm and
tranquil atmosphere was shattered with the arrival of Messrs
Underhill and Woodliffe from CVHQ to undertake our Specialist
Inspection. The request from a member of the team to borrow
the OCs coveralls (for which he had to sign!) indicated their
earnestness.
With the Annual Technical Inspection of the
Workshops, inspections of Arms, radios, security, mobilisation
presentations and the like, we now hope (and what a hope)
for a relatively quiet period.
Our more senior visitors have included COSLOG, COS
BAOR, The DOS and Col Org and Plans.
We rounded off November with an Anglo German cock-
tail party and band concert given by the Staff Band. An
interesting sideline to this event was that the Administration
Officer locked himself in the Rathaus, subsequently attempted to
get out via a toilet window and was promptly arrested by the
German Civil Police! !
Our photograph shows Staff Sergeant Simpson being
presented with the British Empire Medal by the British
Ambassador at Bonn. Staff Sergeant Simpson now leaves us
on promotion to W02 to FOD Dulmen. We also say farewell
to Captain Taylor and welcome Captain Graham and Staff
Sergeant Cairns.

AGAIN the cold spell is upon us but this does not deter the
visitor. At this moment in time the DOS is being taken around
the Depot by the CO to observe the Depot outloading pro-
cedures. The purpose of the visit was to enable the DOS to
have an update of our mobilisation procedures.
The Technical Inspection is over and done with for another
year, as is the DLSA Specialist Inspection. Both of these
inspections went well as did the SA and MG Inspection. The
biggie is on 18th March 1980 when the ARU takes place.
Our MT has been plagued by gremlins. Lieutenant Colonel
Lane our CO has to use a pogo stick! To cap this when the
DOS arrived at the helicopter landing pad, the Morris 1800
kindly lent to us by the FVD Recklinghausen wouldn't start.
Still never mind Bill, we hope it'll all come out in the wash.
STAFF CLERKS
BY the time these notes are published, we shall be
into the New Year and would like to wish a
Happy and Prosperous New Year to the Editor
and Staff of THE GAZETTE and to all RAOC
personnel past and present
PAs Corner: Congratulations to W02 Paul
Blaber on his promotion, as yet there have been
no loud noises from his office demanding a post-
ing, could it be that car is not yet old enough for
UK? W02 Mark Cockram although not yet back in harness in
the Commander's branch, can be seen ' exercising' around
Bielefeld. He says he can no longer take the dog with him as
it holds him back, the dog I mean. Well done, Mark and keep
up the good work.
G Ops. Congratulations to Lance Corporal Stewart Mac-
Donald on his promotion.
GSD. We bid farewell to Lance Corporal Tony Mackey
of GSD 2 and wish him well on his posting to Hong Kong and
congratulations on his promotion when he arrives. There are
whispers along the G Branch corridor that a certain Chief Clerk
could be going back to the world of ' PA-ing'!! More on this
subject in next month's notes.
G Intelligence and Survey. Corporal Jim Shanks has left us
for the world of NATO on posting to AFCENT. We welcome
Corpoial Gary Middleton from the UPRO just along the road
at Headquarters Regiment. Congratulations to Private Steve
Donoghue on passing his driving test, but watch out you other
road users.
Supervising Office. We have said farewell to the Assistant
Supervising Officer, WOl Alan Robinson, and wish him well on
his posting to the MOD, for his last six months. In his place
we welcome WOl Charlie Charlesworth who has joined us on
promotion from Army Legal Aid half a mile away. What no
disturbance allowance Charlie!
AQ Operations, that hitherto unknown quantity of Head-
quarters 1st British Corps, is at long last getting a mention in
THE GAZETTE.
We say farewell to Corporal John Lehmann on posting to
22 SAS—John, can we take the sand out of your rucksack
before we despatch it? and welcome to the fold; Captain David
