the Services chess scene less than two years ago. In 1978, after
appearing for the British Army team at the prestigious NATO
International Tournament in Denmark, he became top Army
player at the 1978 BFG Championships. This years achievement
in gaining top place overall, indicates considerable improvement
and earmarks him as a serious candidate for the 1980 Army
Championships at Arborfield in March.
The Corps has given the Army Chess Association a number
of players over the years. Indeed this years Army Postal
Chess Champion is W02 John Regan, currently serving with
the British Embassy in Prague.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL J. R. HAMBLY recently relin-
quished command of the Composite Ordnance Depot in Hong
Kong. Our photograph shows him being taken out of the
Depot on the start of his journey to Andover by that well
known rickshaw wallah-cum-Corps-golfcr, Captain Priestley.

OUR readers at Bicester, having noted the Director Supply
Computer Services attempting to conserve fuel (November
GAZETTE) by the trial of a splendid one star tandem, have
developed the theme with this new prototype staff tridem which
offers the increased advantage of being capable of carrying ones
personal mechanic at the same time! Possibly very necessary
too, though a skilled medical orderly might be more appropriate.

The new Commanding Officer of Composite Ordnance
Depot Hong Kong is Lieutenant Colonel E. G. Archer to whom
we wish a happy and successful tour.
Brigadier Richard Cooke and Lance Corporal Simon with Mr
Gerald O'Sullivan take delivery of the ' Tridem ' from Major
Ted Alderton REME at Bicester.

PRIVATE IAN CHESHIRE of 154 Forward Ammunition
Depot BAOR has won the 1979 Heineken BFG Chess Cham-
pionships, beating eighteen leading players from BAOR and
RAF Germany. Private Cheshire is one of the younger Army
players and has shown exceptional promise since arriving on
Christina, Chilwell's own Centurion Tank was unveiled by
Brigadier J . A . M . Macdonald, shortly before his retirement, to
symbolize the co-operation o f — a n d joint service provided by,
COD Chilwell, 3 8 Central Workshop REME and the Directorate
of Supply Management (Vehicle Division).
