PUMPKIN EATERS 80 SUPPLY DEPOT in BAOR continues the saga of issuing odd items. One of their dependencies asked for pumpkins. It took staunch POL man Herr Reinhard to provide the solution— although it took him sixteen months to grow them! From four seeds he produced thirty three pumpkins, the largest of which was a staggering ninety one pounds. made the draw with CRAOC, Mike Connolly. The first prize was a gallon of Queen Anne Whisky won by Major Harold Halcrow of R Anglians (DAQMG), and second prize a bottle of Vat 69 was ' won' by CRAOC. Gallon bottles were also raffled by 51 Company (V) at Glasgow and by the Regional Depot Stirling. ROBOT REINDEER AT a party for thirty underprivileged children from the three main areas of Belfast—given by No. 1 Section 321 EOD Unit, Wheelbarrow was converted, with no little ingenuity, to tow in Santa's sleigh. Decorated with magnificent Royal stag antlers and with its more military parts suitably camouflaged, it gave the party at the Felix Club a seasonal—if sadly topical, touch. Well done 321. W h a t a lot. They not only issue rations and POL, but have, on occasions, been asked to supply tickets to John Denver concerts to certain CRAOCs. This remarkable feat was carried out swiftly and efficiently with No. 1033 involved. Photo Courtesy of 'The Visor.' Versatile Wheelbarrow. THE RAOC SCOTLAND ANNUAL D R A W QUEEN THE second whisky raffle by the RAOC in Scotland in support of the Park Lane Fair has just been completed having raised a sum of over £365 for the Forces Help Society and Lord Roberts Workshops. The GOC Scotland Lieutenant General Sir Michael Gow ELIZABETH MILITARY HOSPITAL THIS new hospital at Woolwich replaced five hospitals: The Queen Alexandra Military Hospital, Millbank; The Royal Herbert Hospital and Military Maternity Hospital. Woolwich: The Military Hospital, Colchester and The Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley. Army Medical Services have always been happy to give a service to retired servicemen and, where possible, their depen- dants. This service will be continued as long as there is room in the hospital for serving personnel. The only requirement for an ex-serviceman to be seen is a referral letter from the patient's doctor—this is essential. This service also exists at the Army's other two hospitals: Cambridge Military Hospital, Aldershot and Duchess of Kent's Military Hospital, Catterick. MIDDLE EASTERS ASSOCIATION THE 1980 Reunion Dinner will be held on Saturday 19th April at the Victory (Services) Association Ltd, 63/79 Seymour Street. London W.2. (Marble Arch end of Edgware Road) at 7.00 for 7.30 pm. The bar in the small dining room will be open from 6.30 pm. The cost of tickets from C. L. Baxter, 129 Benhill Road. London SE5 to include a three-course dinner with coffee is £6 each which is an increase of twenty per cent on the cost of the 1979 Dinner, due to increased prices which we are all having to face up to. However, it is still very good value for our Annual Reunion in convival surroundings and an opportunity to meet colleagues from our service days. The delight on the CRAOCs face shows through as the GOC reads out his name as winning the second prize. The first prize, a gallon of whisky, looks handsome. — 269 — WILL ALL contributors kindly note that the deadline date for receipt of copy at THE GAZETTE Office really is the 29th of the month for publication a month later. |
