Transcription Other seasonal functions were the Retired Civilian Em-
ployees Party in the Civilian Canteen, where each ex-employee
received a spot of ' Christmas Cheer' to take home, and were
entertained by a display of magic by Lieutenant Colonel Freddy
Cantrell, as well as a performance by Mr Bunny Austin on the
bagpipes and a harmonica trio led by Herr Heinrich Moors (of
RSG) and two friends. We also donated gifts to our adopted
Charity, the Fanny Zahn Home for Children, at their Christmas
party.
Space does not permit more than a brief mention of the
Civilian Employees Christmas Party, our own Unit childrens
party, that of the Viersen youth club, and not forgetting the
rugby club party. A busy month for all who worked so hard
and gave up their free time to organise these functions, each of
which was successful and enjoyed by all who attended.
Arrivals this month are Lieutenant Colonel Shircliff, (the
new Controller ICP) from Headquarters BAOR, Major Lynam
from Thatcham, Staff Sergeant Smith from Colchester and
Sergeant Crowe from Tidvvorth. We bid you all welcome.
We also say farewell to Lieutenant Colonel Start to Alder-
shot, WOl Bensley REME to UK prior to retirement, and
Sergeant Keilty to Chilwell.
Finally, we wish all members of the Unit, past and present,
a happy and successful 1980.
FORWARD ORDNANCE DEPOT DULMEN
THE highlight of the month was the 1979 ARU. After the
formal inspection by Brigadier Thornton, Commander Rhine
Area, thirty nine ' happy' souls were nominated by Head-
quarters Rhine Area for BFT. I'm delighted to report we had
a one hundred per cent pass! Another sixty were ' invited ' to
demonstrate their ability at Military Skills and the accompany-
ing officers presented yet another variation by asking the Unit's
instructors to instruct on this occasion. This was not un-
expected and presented no problems. After lunch the Inspecting
Officers addressed the assembled Unit and remarked very
favourably on our very high standard.
Our welcome this month is extended to Captain Evans
RAPC, Captain Parsons, W02 Simpson, Sergeant Davies,
Corporals Harrison and Housley, Lance Corporal Thompson,
Privates BIyth, Brooks, Glynn, Jennings, Martin, Tew, Tippen
and Thompson.
Our farewells to: WOs2 Devine and Lear, Sergeants Foster
and John ACC, Corporal King, Lance Corporals Goodall,
Ramsbottom and Walsh, Privates Pattinson, Rodden, Singh and
Whelpdale.

STATION life in December differs little
from that strange metamorphosis which
takes place everywhere in that month. All
becomes bright and beautiful and messages
of goodwill echoes from all angles. It
never ceases to amaze me what a drop of
the hard stuff will do for us mortals . . . .
Really though, it has been very
pleasant so far. The JRC Draw took
place a couple of weeks ago and thanks
to Corporals John Briggs, Frank Crovvther, Phil Warden, Terry
Long, Lance Corporals Steve Skidmore and Bob Day we were
all able to enjoy a very pleasant evening.
experiencing, there is little else to tell you. We therefore wish
you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

DEPOT
CHRISTMAS is almost upon us and what the BFTs took off
will soon be replaced by an excess of Christmas pud and
turkey. The round of parties has already started and what a
strain it will all be in order to celebrate properly!
We have a champion in our midst! Private Ian Cheshire
(See also page 268) recently returned from Canada 'and retained
the BAOR Chess Trophy for the second year running and to
add a further laurel to his crown, took the BFG Trophy. Well
done Ches, and may you continue to castle.
The Chief Clerk has just returned from a squash coaching
course. He keeps talking about a course in England. Must
mean Resettlement! Squash ball tester?
We congratulate W02 Paddy Grey (with an e not an a)
and Staff Sergeant Dave Scrivcns on receiving substantive pro-
motion.
We welcome Sergeant and Mrs Cunningham-Norton,
Corporal and Mrs John Grimsley, Sergeant and Mrs Ben
Bienkowski, Staff Sergeant and Mrs Ahern, all with their
families and hope they enjoy their stay in Wulfen. We also
welcome Staff Sergeant Mick Morrison who joins us from
Catterick. Sergeant Alan Saddington has rejoined us from the
sunny shores of Australia looking brown and hefty. He'll soon
lose the heftiness.
Sometimes when we welcome people we have to say
farewell to others. W02 Dave Wood who has left us for the
sunny shores of Bicester and Staff Sergeant Dave (who's
organising the hockey this week) Scrivens.
Corporals Nap
Napolitano and Eric Gibson are attending their ' Bullet
Merchant' upgrading at Kineton and should return in March 80.
Finally we congratulate Private and Mrs Nicholson on the
birth of their baby boy Alan Thomas.

STAFF CLERKS
NOW that the festive season is behind us and the
Alka-Seltzer and Underberg have done a roaring
trade it is time to get back to the serious side of
life and look forward to 1980 and those dreaded
exercises. Watch out lads Crusader will soon be
upon us.
The R and D bid farewell to Corporal Brown
QLR and wish him all the best in his future
appointment at NDC Latimer. W/Lance Corporal
Hughes has left R and D and after a few days rest has returned
to join the typing pool—as Mrs Hughes, goodbye and hello
Elaine. In Lance Corporal Hughes place we welcome Lance
Corporal Linda Monk who has joined us from the sunny climes
of COD Bicester.
On the PA side we welcome back W02 Mark Cochram
and the Assistant Supervising Officer has been heard to say that
he was the happiest person in the Headquarters on that day.
Good luck for the future Mark. W02 Paul Blaber is smiling at
the prospect of seeing a posting order to sunny climes in the
near future.
Staff Sergeant Jim Reynolds has received his posting order
and he is off to become PA to the QMG in February. He
assures all who ask that he is happy to be going, could it be
that GSD was not the place for him!
Congratulations go to Lance Corporal Steve Donoghue on
his promotion and so far it seems he is still not upsetting other
road users a month from passing his test.
A few internal moves have taken place recently with Private
Burnett moving into G Intelligence and Survey to take over
from Lance Corporal Steve Donoghue who goes to GSD2 to
replace Lance Corporal Tony Mackey.

The Sergeants Mess draw was very well attended and
prizes shared almost evenly by members. Sergeant Pat Bradley,
ex-member and well known for his famous wins, kept up his
reputation by winning a tumble-dryer
all the way from
Bicester.
The Wives Club too held their party and even had a
