Transcription The Regimental Training Programme for this year has al-
most been completed and a tremendous amount has been teamed
and our thanks to Sergeant Marks for his assistance.
<
Five-a-side football—well! what can be said—our team
members should be in the first division. Our gallant team has
won every match. A good show indeed.
The Unit's potted sports are a gTeat success with the Desk
Bounders coming up tops, four points ahead of Suppliers, alas,
the poor Batchers are at the bottom of the ladder—still better
luck next year.
2nd Armoured Division
STORES
PLATOON
15 FIELD WORKSHOP
SPRING cleaning came early to the
Stores Platoon what with our recent
ARU. Highlight of the inspection was the
visit of Brigadier Airy, Commander 5
Field Force. Needless to say he was most
impressed with the way in which the few
do so much for so many. Lieutenant
Simon Hall, managing to take a fortnights
well earned leave in England, needn't despair. The job of
OC Stores Platoon will still be open on his return although
strong opposition will no doubt be provided by Private Scooter
Foye, we didn't let him near the backloading Sir!
Santa has recently brought us Staff Sergeant Benny Borbould
and Private Paul Tonks from 5 Field Force Ordnance Com-
pany. He also paid a special visit to Lance Corporal and Mrs
Chippy Wood leaving with them a baby daughter, and who said
he didn't have it in him! Congratulations are also due on his
recent Bl success, he'll need the extra cash I'm sure.
Mother luck recently beamed down on Staff Sergeant Kevin
Reardon. He was fortunate enough to win a television set in
the Sergeants Mess draw. Pity it isn't converted to BFBS
though, perhaps you can sell it to one of the Germans, Staff!
(tough at the top isn't it).
Congratulations also to Lance Corporal Steve Prowen on
passing his HGVl at the first attempt, now all that remains is
to have blocks permanently fitted to our Bedford Tasker.
This time we will know how Lieutenant Simon Hall fared
on his Provision Course. Hope Santa was good to you Sir.
Having said hello to the new arrivals we must now bid our
farewells to those who are leaving: Staff Sergeant Ron Ferguson
moves across Munster to the Ordnance Company on pro-
motion, rumour has it that he is taking up table tennis. Corporal
Phil Moreton will shortly be winging his way to Donnington in
the land of no LOA whilst Lance Corporal Paul Goody moves
in the new year to Belize. Just watch those cherries boys!

3rd Armoured Division
HEADQUARTERS
RAOC
ENTERTAINMENTS for the festive
season kicked off with a unique three in
one party (we certainly got well oiled
anyway) which consisted of CRAOC
Lieutenant Colonel Parry Davies drinks
with the SNCOs, Adjutants farewell and
the office party all held on the same
night. Thanks go to W02 Danny Danvers
who made most of the arrangements, and being over-conscious
of the drinking and driving campaign, transport was provided,
but twelve people in a Safari Land Rover, well!!
The various Christmas draws are behind us now and every-
body has recovered. A few lucky members of Headquarters
RAOC won Grand Raffle prizes, Mr Tilley the Divisional Fire
Advisor won a music centre, other winners were WOl John
Davy, Sergeant Dave Burrell and not forgetting Lance Corporal
Gordon O'Hara. Congratulations to all.
Private Steve De Feu the backbone of the Technical
Office has gone back to the UK for a well earned leave, no
doubt he can't wait to show his Mercedes off. Some of us are
a bit puzzled on how he is going to cross the channel, his
ferry ticket arrived three days after he left!
The sad task now remains to say farewell to Captain Nigel
Wylde who has served as our long suffering Adjutant for the
last twelve months, also to congratulate him on receiving his
Majority in the New Year. We wish him and his good lady
all the best in their new post. A hearty welcome goes to Captain
David Caldwell who is taking over as Adjutant, we offer him
our condolences and hope he enjoys his stay with 3rd Division.
AQ BRANCH
THE branch has now just about fully recovered from Exercise
Red Gauntlet It seemed to be well enjoyed by everyone,
especially those on rear party. Corporal John Dixon managed
to get himself hidden away with the Headquarters DAA doing
sleeping/watching duties, while Sergeant Glyn Davies was
supervising the Control Headquarters complex. Lance Corporals
Groom, Jones and Maxwell seemed relieved to be back in the
office, can't understand it, missing all that fresh air. We wish
Corporal Steve Farrow good luck in his new post at Padcrborn
Garrison, and welcome his wife to BAOR.
Lance Corporal Maxwell is off on his RPC2 at Dulmen.
We wish him many haircuts and good luck.
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
ONCE again the Unit bowling team have excelled themselves
and Sergeant Hodgkiss and his team are to be congratulated
on coming second in the RAOC Championships — Sergeant
Hodgkiss himself coming third in the singles competition and
winning the overall Individual Championship.
The Unit Cross Country team earned themselves a place
in the BAOR Championships held at Korbecke and despite
a large proportion of the team away ski-ing did extremely
well.
Looking forward to winter sports we have invested in some
Langlauf ski trainers which should produce some amusement
if not some worthwhile training.
Meanwhile Lieutenants
Morrison and Brownlce have gone off to Exercise Snow Queen
with several other members of the ski-team.
This month we say goodbye to W02 Raffan, Staff Sergeants
Richards, Evans and Corporal Paul and we welcome to the
Unit Lance Corporal Scothern and Privates Evans, Packham
and Lucas.
STORES PLATOON 5 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
AS Christmas drew near Father Christmas gathered his staff
gnomes together in the Divisional grotto and said: " I want to
give all the boys and girls of 3rd Armoured Division a really
lovely Christmas present. What shall we do?" A staff gnome
jumped up and said " Why not a bumper parcel of FTX Santa
Sir?!"
And so it came to pass (Because when Santa says ' jump'
you say yes Santa, how high?) that the gnomes and trolls of
the Stores Platoon gave all the boys and girls just what they
needed most: L60s, Abbot engines, gearboxes, Scorpion spares
and all the things which everybody really wanted. It was a
lovely FTX and everybody was very happy.
After the FTX the Stores Platoon met in ' Horst's Grotto '
for a party. Goodness me! Some of the gnomes had so much
jelly and lemonade that they fell asleep at the tables or danced
with each other. Corporal Pete Folland introduced Gabriella
to the rest of us; they have finally ' plighted their troth." We
wish them all happiness in the future.
We would also like to thank the Manning and Records
Office for their Christmas presents in the shape of Private Adams
and Lance Corporal Alan Holden—welcome to the Platoon
John, nice to see you, to see you . . .
There is also the sad task of saying farewell to the follow-
ing members of the Platoon: Corporal Barry Phillips and the
tribe, Lance Corporal (Corporal on posting) Ronnie Bonsall,
Jean and family, Private Ian Sellars, Annette and the 'Bump,'
Private Denis Roche and Chris. To each of y'ou we say thank
you for your sterling efforts and all our best wishes for the
future.
We understand that the OC, Captain Jeremy Parsons, is
submitting an application for Volvos to replace AEC ten tonners.
As we all know he does drive the fastest truck around!
Sergeant Mel Cook has been disqualified from the ' Grump
of the Year' competition. He was seen to smile at Private Taff
Davis' explanation as to how he managed to dent a sixteen
tonner.
The local RMP detachment have voted Private Tony Cordon
' Man of the Year' for his fine achievement of two accidents in
one week
in the same street! Tony is now offering an
extensively remodelled Cortina for sale: Many extras including
crinkle effect paintwork.'
New Year greetings from 3rd Division to all members,
past and present, of the Corps wherever they may be.
