On the subject of awards, a rather special
"^
award was made to Staff Sergeant Don
Pearson for his outstanding participation and achievement in
sport during his tour in Cyprus. He has played hockey, football,
rugby, tennis, table tennis, squash and cross country and taken
part in the Cyprus Walkabout four times. Most sports were
played at Army (Cyprus) standard. We wish him every success
as PSI in 41 RP Company (TA) to which he is now posted.

expedition pictures and his talks on a trip twice postponed, which
took three years to arrange.
The floodlit rugby football ten a side competition saw a
logistic team with five RAOC members reach the final. On the way
they beat RAF Akrotiri twelve three, RAF Troodos twenty two
nil and the RAF Regiment twenty nil. In the final, a very hard
game which delighted the spectators, the RAF Exiles team beat
the Logistics side by nine nil.
We say farewell to Staff Sergeant Pearson and Corporal
McGuire, and welcome Captain Brown, Sergeant Docherty and
Corporal Dowse.

with a plaque in recognition of his services to sport in Cyprus.
A significant event was the opening of the new Laundry
at Akrotiri, Colonel Jenkinson the Colonel AQ conducted the
ceremony. Sergeant Geoff Carlyle is responsible for building
up the .laundry so that it can take over all the island's require-
ments from the MRS laundry at Dhekelia.
On the regimental side the Unit took part in the annual
Military skills competition. A team of ten selected by the com-
petition organisers from fifty per cent of the Unit strength com-
petes against other minor Units. This year the tests were
map reading, weapon handling, a speed march and a shoot.
Ably led by the Chief Clerk W02 Brian Bragger the team
achieved seventh place.
As ever sport continues to play a large part in the life of
RAOC Cyprus. With Walkabout over for another year the
cross country team are training hard for the RAOC Cross
Country Championships and hoping to improve upon last
year's second place. The RAOC sponsored Dhekelia Dash
was again a great success this year thanks to hard work by
Major Tony Swift and the Supply Depot.
AMMUNITION
DEPOT AKROTIRI.
Sergeants Stephen
Mason and Willy Hunt recently took part in an exercise involving
HMS Bulwark and the helicopter squadron. Suitably attired as
terrorists they landed in a helicopter on the ship and with an
acoustic device held it to ransom for a couple of hours.
On a more normal note Major Peter Wallis and his staff
have been occupied with inspections, especially to the UN. WOl
Keith Adams has been busy running the Akrotiri Unit Club.
We welcome Staff Sergeant and Mrs Johnson and Sergeant
and Mrs Dickie and wish Sergeant John Spencer, his wife
Lynn and family good luck on their posting to Bicester.
SUPPLY DEPOT DHEKELIA.
The organisation of the
Dhekelia Dash has taken up a lot of Major Tony Swift's time
recently. This competition which is a fifteen mile race from
Ayios Nikolaos to Dhekelia is for teams of fifteen. It was
originally for RAOC soldiers who ran from one Depot to the
other. The event is now open to all Units on the island and this
year some thirty teams entered. The RAOC team eventually
EP1SKOPI. Staff Sergeant Brian Booth has been the main
force behind the Garrison Sergeants Mess football team and as
manager has persuaded W02 Brian Bragger and Sergeant
Tom Goodwin to turn out. As far as the football itself is concerned
it is understood that the social aspect is very successful.
The squash team led by Lieutenant Colonel Field has at
last won a league match. W02 Alan Smith is hoping to win
a game before he is posted.
We have said farewell to Major Neil MacCormick who
has left the service after thirty seven years. We wish him and
his wife Jean the best of luck in their new life in America. We
welcome Staff Sergeant ' Bing' Crosbie in place of newly pro-
moted W02 Ken Storey.
