Transcription came ninth but were unfortunate in that two of their team
members were involved in a car crash and last minute sub-
stitutes had to be found.
Congratulations to Sergeant Bovenizer who passed his Bl
upgrading course at the Employment Training School.
We say farewell to Staff Sergeant Uzzell and family and
welcome W02 Swann and family and Sergeant Jarwood and
family.
STORES SECTION 48 COMMAND WORKSHOP.
For the
first time we include notes from the Stores Section attached to
48 Command Workshop. Although not under command we
have a close association with them. The WOIC is Alex Johnston
who is ably supported by Sergeants ' P u d ' Ambler and Tony
Taylor and Corporal ' Geordie' Kendall. At the Dhekelia
outpost Staff Sergeant Harry Butcher can be found. We look
forward to more news from them in the coming months.

HEADQUARTERS
WITH the temperature still in the high sixties it is, at times,
difficult to accept that it is the festive season. However, once
the various rounds of Christmas parties started we soon joined
in the ' spirit' of the occasion. G Branch were on their best
behaviour this year, could it be that Sergeant John Flannagan
has been posted!
Since our last report arrivals have been Sergeant Paddy
O'Rourke from 6 Field Force Ordnance Company, Corporal
Jan Robson WRAC from UKLF and Corporal Kevin Smith
who has moved down the road from Headquarters UNFICYP.
Departures, Sergeant John Flannagan to SHAPE, Corporal Tom
McCallion to AFCENT and Corporal Sally Thurman WRAC
to Northern Ireland in the rank of Sergeant—congratulations.
Finally, while still on the note of postings the Headquarters
' Main Spring,' ' Key Man,' * Mr Sport,' ' Mr Indispensible'
Corporal Keith Cammack now knows that somebody up there
likes him on the news that he is posted to the MOD in August
in the rank of Acting Sergeant—again congratulations. (Could
it have been as a result of the ear-bashing he gave OIC Records
on his recent visit.)

HEADQUARTERS
GREAT news from the sporting front,
particularly volleyball. AQ Services team
regularly fields four staunch—or is it paunch
RAOC players, WOl Phil Buxton, Staff
Sergeant Bob Green, W02 Kevin Hartley
and, would you believe, the Captain is a
Major. This gallant band of volleyballists
are led by Major Don Young however, irrespective of the
leadership, we are still coming second in each match!
At the time of writing Christmas is upon us. The Head-
quarters Childrens Christmas Party was organised by WOl
Phil Buxton assisted by his Chief Clerk Staff Sergeant (Browny
Points) Bob Green and Staff Sergeant Brian Berrie; Father
Christmas has yet to be volunteered. All the children are
looking forward to the party with great excitement. Everyone,
in fact, is looking forward to their first Christmas since we have
been on board ship. The bulkheads and galleys are being
decorated on the various Mess decks and, believe it or not, even
Sailors can be heard whistling between decks. Hopefully this is
a sign of cheerfulness for the impending round of festivities
and nothing more sinister.
Our best wishes go to Colonel Richardson and family as
they return to higher planes in UK.
We extend a very warm welcome to Lieutenant Colonel B.
R. Fox OBE and family as he takes up his appointment as
Senior Ordnance Officer in the Colony.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all Corps
members, past and present, and their families a Happy, Healthy
and Joyful New Year and remind them to Keep Smiling.
C o m p o s i t e Ordnance D e p o t Hong Kong
THE main achievement of Composite Ordnance Depot this
month must be the number of parties held, not only for
Christmas but also on the departure of our Commanding
Officer, Lieutenant Colonel J. R. Hambly.
In between all the parties the steady flow of work con-
tinued, the stocktakers paid ASD a visit during the month and,
we are happy to say, found everything for which they were
looking.

and Corporal Weissgerber.
Appreciations for the Depots many working achievements
during the past months are rolling in. Recently a combined
party from both Stores Group and ICP were invited to the
Training Depot Brigade of Gurkhas for drinks and a really
super Gurkha buffet. This was in appreciation of all the help
and assistance given during the latest Gurkha recruiting phase
from Nepal. A splendid day was somewhat marred on the
return journey when the Volkswagen Mini-bus developed
'radiator over-heating' and a brief stop had to be made
coincidentally just outside
Bar! Shelter was taken
under the supervision of the IC party. The problem was over-
come and everyone arrived home safely.
Overheard recently on the bridge of an Army LSL pro-
ceeding from Hong Kong to Brunei. " But Sir, I've checked
the vehicle loading list against the vehicles several times and
still come up with one too many." " Don't worry Sergeant, it
will certainly be useful for off-loading the freight in Brunei.
Just make sure that its yellow and black paintwork is touched
up before our return to Hong Kong. Don't mention it to
anyone "!
We would like to thank Postings Ltd. (Wigston) for their
reply (Page 173 November GAZETTE) as to the MFO rules in the
ever popular game MFOPOLY. However, for the benefit of
other readers would Postings Ltd please clarify the following
rule: / / a soldier throws a double six and gains an extension in
his present Unit but in a higher rank (Substantive); and having
already sent all MFO due to a previous posting which was
cancelled in entirety does the soldier:
(a) Have another throw
(b) Gain Bonus points enabling him to draw new kit from
Quartermasters
(c). Be excused all duties and go on a junk trip
(d) Attend work in shorts and flip flops.
An early reply would be appreciated.
The Supply Sub-Depot Packed Ration Section is now
firmly back under the control of Corporal Fred Robbins who
return triumphantly from his Storeman BII—BI upgrading
course. The Depot Superintendent WOl Fred Woolhouse also
returned from his Sub-Aqua Exercise—Deeplung III. This
was followed by a week teaching Gurkhas how to Snorkel
(simply an excuse for the amphibious Depot Superintendent to
take to the water again).
The fifth Galloping Gourmet Food Demonstration has
taken place when some seventy wives attended. The Demon-
stration was also attended by- Colonel Lloyd Jones so we hope
it counts as a plus on the Unit Technical Inspection Report.
We say farewell this month to Lieutenant Colonel John
Hambly, Staff Sergeant Pete Williams, Sergeants Art Matthews,
Paddy Organ and Lenny Mo and finally Corporal George Betts.
In their place we welcome Lieutenant Colonel Ernie Archer,
WOl Les Porter, Sergeants Mike Paling and Tom Hart and
Corporal Pete Colak.
Our congratulations go to Sergeant Pete Ingham on
achieving a one hundred per cent A Grade pass on his Service
Funds and Account course and to Corporal and Mrs Taffy
Humphreys on the birth of their daughter.
