off to lunch. As Bravo and Alpha are both concerned with
inspections, and share an office—a type of Cox a Box arrange-
ment tends to apply, thus when Alpha came back Bravo was
out. Alpha casually placed his brief case on Bravo's desk for
no reason at all and paddled off to see someone in the Head-
quarters. In the meantime Bravo was on his way back from
lunch.
(At this point we have to interupt our narrative to mention
that unattended packages, particularly in this part of the world,
are viewed with great suspicion to say the least).
Yes you've guessed, Bravo walks into his office and sees
the brief case, and thinks " That wasn't there when I went o u t "
. . . He then makes a telephone call. Felix thought it was his
birthday, right on his own doorstep! " Swooooch
! !
There was a big bang and everyone thought " that was a bit
close "!
The aftermath no doubt caused a few rosy complexions,
chortles of mirth, and hoots of delight from the wretched
Units who were victims of the inspections, the reports of which
were now fluttering away in the breezes that blow across the
sea to Ireland—as indeed they do.

BAND
APPEAL,
A ' Private Member's Bill' was introduced at the DGOS Study
Period by Lieutenant Colonel Walton which outlined improve-
ments which could be made to the dress and equipment of our
Staff Band—and a way by which the necessary capital could
be raised. The Colonels Commandant and the DGOS sup-
ported the proposal which was given enthusiastic general ap-
proval at the Study Period.
The aim of the 'Band Appeal 1980' is to raise sufficient
capital to purchase the following, as well as other minor items
to be used for recruiting purposes:—Eight Fanfare Trumpets,
£4,500; New Peaked Caps, £600; Full dress uniform for DOM,
£500; Music Stand Banners, £1,300. A total of some £6,900.
The appeal is to take the form of a draw for the following
prizes: —
Four original water colour drawings of a Corps figure
in full dress uniform, by Lieutenant Colonel Walton; mounted
and framed the approximate frame size being twelve inches by
sixteen inches.
Twenty copies of the above, signed by the artist; mounted
and framed with the frame size being approximately nine inches
by twelve inches.
As we wish to raise the money with the minimum admini-
strative effort, the scheme is to be implemented as follows: —
a. All RAOC Units are making a concerted effort to col-
lect donations in multiples of twenty five pence; forwarded to
the Corps Secretariat in accordance with Headquarters DGOS
letter of 30th January.
b. Detached officers, soldiers and retired personnel should
forward their individual donations direct to the Corps Secretary.
c. Cheques to be made payable to ' The RAOC Band
Fund ' ; the latest date for donations to reach the Corps Secretary
is 31st March 1980.
During the first week in April, The Corps Secretary will
forward the nominal rolls to DGOS (Sec 2) who will allocate a
serial number to each twenty five pence share and a Grand
Draw will then be held.
Prize winners will be notified by DGOS Sec 2, by letter,
immediately after the draw has taken place and prizes will be
forwarded to them during the third week of April 1980.
The complete list of prize winners, and the total sum
donated, will be published in THE GAZETTE.
In order to raise the required sum it is hoped that the
appeal will produce at least £1 from each reader in support of
a scheme which will enhance the appearance of what is an al-
ready a very widely acclaimed Staff Band, in which we can all
take great pride.
COMMANDER Training Centre is offering a prize of £25 in a
competition to find a new Corps recruiting slogan.
There is a need for a new modern slogan which will appeal
to potential recruits—both officers and men—which is also an
accurate description of the Corps.
Entries to Headquarters RAOC Training Centre, Deep-
cut, Camberley, Surrey GU16 6RW, please.
