new leader Colonel Mike Cosgrove from Headquarters BAOR
and trust he will be happy with us!
Lieutenant Colonel David Porter has finally left us, although
he too moves upstairs, in his case to DGOS Secretariat to com-
plete the Supply Management Study. He leaves with our best
wishes and we welcome in his place as AQMG S Man 2b,
Lieutenant Colonel David Barrett from the School of Ord-
nance.
Mrs Jo Simpson (ned Gaunt), who managed heavy B
vehicles, has departed for the Portsmouth Dockyard. We wish
her happiness for the future and welome in her place Mrs
Anne Glynn.
Last but by no means least we bade farewell to our SQM,
Lieutenant Colonel Ted Andrews. Ted joined RAOC as a boy
in 1939 following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
He in tum was followed into the Corps by his son Richard,
the family having given some one hundred and twenty two
years service to the Corps. We wish Ted a long and happy
retirement in the bosom of his family in St Georges.
We welcomes as our new SQM, Major Bob Nesbitt, who
comes to us from the corridors of power on the seventh floor
of MOD. We trust he will enjoy his six years and two months
in Andover.

AND ORD 1
AFTER several hard fought games
the combined Ord 1/DGOS Section
five-a-side football team has risen to
second place in the LE(A) depart-
mental tournament; by a series of
lucky breaks the Ord 2/4 team is the
league leader, but we hope soon to
correct this situation.
The LE(A) hockey team which boasts ten RAOC players,
including our Major Ricky Ginn and Staff Sergeant Major
Graham Wood, recently qualified for the final of the South
West District Minor Units.
As evidence that those involved in training do actually
' get some i n ' Major Rupert Catt is currently absent from Ord
lc on a three week management development course.
We welcome to Andover, Major Barry Jones and his
family and trust that their tour with us will be a happy one.
ORD 4. 'Tis the season of ice, snow and BFT Tests,' and the
sight of the many different shaped lemminglike figures scurrying
round the airfield is not least due to the latter. Everyone
anxiously awaits the outcome of Staff Sergeant Major Bill
Smith's attempt—will he damage an ankle yet again? Lieu-
tenant Colonel Dudley Upton ' r a n ' in the comfort of his
office and successfully completed the Application to Terminate
Service Form for over fifties—watch this space
for
further details.
If applied to the decade, the saying " in like a lion out like
a lamb " should guarantee us a restful 1989. So far '80 has
been hectic with Colonel Tony Futrell and his departmental
SOsl having attended a continuous series of meetings, visits
etc. Mr Paul Connor and Staff Sergeant Major Jimmy Jameson
have been Activity Sampling at Chilwell, Donnington and
Bicester whilst Messrs Richard Harwood and Fred Wilkins
studied MHE at Kineton.
Captains Colin Fuller and Bob
Willox are both about to venture across the northern border,
the former to vet student projects, the latter on Exercise Knees
Bend.
We say farewell to Staff Sergeant Major Bill Smith and
welcome in his place SQMS Paul Westcott from the land of
bratwursts, saurkraut and LOA.
Staff Sergeant and Mrs Fallon after the presentation of the Long
Service and Cood Conduct Medal at Bicester by Brigadier Cooke.

DIVISION
SERGEANT RAY NORTHCOTT teamed up recently with
WOl Ken Barker (Depot Transport) in an effort to make
some impression on the rallying scene. To date events entered
include Exercise Magnum Spirit in BAOR and the UK Civil
Service 'Advent Rally.' Although finishing in both no prizes
have been forthcoming—yet! Watch this space.
Sergeant Ray Northcott also took part in the Army Ski
Championships at Aviemore together with Sergeant Ivan
Arathoon, Corporal Des Hardon, Lance Corporal Kevin
Glasspool and Staff Sergeant Chas MacDonald (team manager).
Corporal Jock Foster has recently passed his EPC exam-
ination and Sergeant Dick Snell is now newly qualified to B2
standard Supply Clerk. B gradings were awarded to Staff
Sergeants Mick Mayes and Chas MacDonald and Sergeant
Dave Gartside as a result of their provision courses. Detach-
ments coming up are Sergeant Dave Gartside to St Lucia
and Sergeant Taff Stallard to Canada, both for six weeks. The
latter detachment will be under the auspices of The Queens
Regiment and was arranged by Lieutenant Colonel Stuart
Rowsell.

This month we say farewell to Brigadier
Bromham who is posted as Commandant COD Chilwell where
no doubt he will be wrestling with ' Fair Value ' problems! We
wish him well in his new appointment. We welcome Brigadier
Groves from S Man 2. Our congratulations on his promotion
and hope that he will enjoy his tour as DSM(A).
S MAN 1. We said farewell at Christmas to Miss Trudi Kladko,
Clerical Officer of S Man la(4) and fiancee of Paul Henson,
Executive Officer of S Man la(3). Trudi has departed for
Transport 6. We offer our congratulations and best wishes, to
Paul Henson and Trudi on their marriage, which has now taken
place. It's three mile bash time again here at Andover, with a
spiriting choice of dawn or dusk on the airfield. One man, un-
perturbed by such a prospect is Lieutenant Colonel Bernard
Miles, AQMG S Man la. As a dedicated have-a-run-before-
six enthusiast he will undoubtedly take all this in his stride if
his two DGOS Challenge Certificates are anything to go by . . . !
