Transcription Unit. The children, who thought that Santa Claus had long
departed for the North Pole, were delighted with this facility
which was previously lacking in their hobby activities.
Congratulations to Corporal and Mrs Molloy on the birth
of a baby daughter, Danielle. Wc say farewell to Major Evans,
WOs2 Ryan and Wcstcott, Sergeants Pcarcc and McDonald and
Corporal Bertram. Welcome to newcomers Staff Sergeants Smith
and Horton.
and also passing his Bl Course. Busy little lad this! It's not
quite the same as having a baby of course.
Also con-
gratulations to Corporal Robinson on promotion to A/Sergeant
and Sergeant Groves on being made substantive.
We say farewell to: WOl and Mrs Jim Wood who leave
us for the planning world at Vicrscn; Staff Sergeant and Mrs
Bill Robinson, who leave us on promotion to go to Padcr-
born; and to Private Howard to civvy street, (must have
decided to work for a living).
Wc welcome Sergeant (Biggies) Pcacocke and family. Private
Jones (501), Private Jones (805) and Private Bennett.
In the January notes wc congratulated Private Ellison on
being provisionally selected for promotion. This in fact was
incorrect. For Ellison read Elliott. He's the Gcordic who is
always moaning that he never gets his name in Tur; GA/.FITTI:.
FVD Recklinghausen
A t the Fanny Zahn Hcim Presentation — Colonel Edwards,
M a t r o n — F r a u Doris Hoeft, Lieutenant Colonel Recs, Marianne
Rcinarti and RSM Drew, as well as some of the children trying
out a plane on one of the work-benches.
W u l f e n Station
WITHIN the Station the ' normal' life
goes on and on and on. The Wives Club
held their RAGM and bun fight in
January; a meal beautifully prepared in
the Junior Restaurant by Sergeant Inge.
Mr Harkins the Sergeants Mess Caterer
buckled too and ran the bar for the
wives. What would women do without
men!
The Station welcomes into the fold
Mr and Mrs Geoff Home; Geoff is the
new Deputy Headmaster at our School.
The Station Youth Club flourishes as strongly as ever
still running discos, going skating, watching films. Mr Fletcher
is getting his feet under the table, so to speak, as the Youth
Club supervisor in conjunction with Staff Sergeant Veazey.
Unfortunately in the near future they may have to move their
palatial premises but we hope into a new Community Centre.
We say a sad farewell to Mrs Crawley who for so long has
looked after the Station Kindergarten. The kiddies will miss
her as we all will especially the makers of Gingerbread men
biscuits.
154 FORWARD AMMUNITION
DEPOT
ITS started! The ARU is on the 18th March and everyone
is feverishly preparing their notes, programmes etc. A Hash
run is the order for non-sportsmen on Wednesday afternoons,
with BFT Training on Tuesdays and Fridays. Great. This
must be the X Factor everybody keeps talking about. For
those of you who know the Depot, it can be quite hair-
raising running around the Depot at half past seven in the
morning without glasses on! It's dark enough. (It's not as
though I am going to bump into anybody anyway!)
Lance Corporal Forrest, our intrepid second-in-command
of the MHE Section, decided to take one of his section on
an Eager Beaver familiarisation around the Depot circuit.
Lance Corporal Forrest was in the lead but not for long.
This nasty lad called Jack Frost decided to place in his way
a patch of black ice and after the black ice came a tree.
The tree won. Luckily enough Lance Corporal Forrest suffered
no injuries, apart from his pride.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal and Mrs Betmead on
the birth of Carl, four days before Christmas. We also con-
gratulate Lance Corporal Forrest and Private Thomas on
passing their military driving test and Lance Corporal Morris
on achieving an A grade on the Supply Specialist (GM) Course
AS wc stride forth into 1980 with our thoughts of " it's bound
to be easier than 1979" we arc immediately hit with a spate of
Pre-ARU Inspections, with Regimental and Physical Training
also taking their toll of our adrenalin.
Private Jennings has sncakily taken leave in the UK and
left the Chief Clerk with all kinds of problems, like where did
he hide the coffee makings etc.
On the 12th and 13th January wc had as our guests a six-a-
side ' oldies' football team, representing Leeds United in the
Recklinghausen six-a-side Indoor Competition. The team in-
cluded the two reputable taffies, John and Mel Charles. Not to
be outdone the Unit entered a team in a six-a-sidc soccer com-
petition held at Kcmptcn, Bavaria in which wc came a magni-
ficent third, although there were cries of " Wc deserved to
win!"
Wc welcome to the Unit our new Technical Officer, Captain
Graham, giving up his cushy number at the ' Big House' to join
us down here at the sharp end.
On the administration side, regrettably, a Part 2 Workshop
Services has been submitted for the posting of the Administra-
tion Officer, Captain Crawley to Donnington.
Wc also welcome to the Unit, Sergeant Murphy, Corporal
Bonsu, Lance Corporals Wells and Harvey also Privates Hamblin
and Taylor, wc say farewell to Private Ellis.
