1st British Corps ORDNANCE BRANCH JANUARY the start of a new year sees internal changes, Ord Fire having already moved upstairs to join the fold leaving Ord Maintenance the last outpost to move from downstairs to complete the branch. The move was completed early in January with the loss of Herr Heinz Sahlmuller who will be leaving us slightly prematurely for retirement after serving thirty three years as Barrack Services RASC/Accommodation Services RAOC clerk. Congratulations this month go to Lance Corporal Baillie on receiving his promotion. Finally we welcome Staff Sergeant John Jackson and Private Whitehouse to Ord and wish their stay a happy one. We say farewell to Corporal Brown to G Air and W02 Jim Gleeson who has finally left us for Headquarters BAOR and if anybody sees somebody walking through the corridors of power with a handbag yes its Gleeson! STAFF CLERKS. It won't be long before the Corps Head- quarters starts to work up for the first exercise of the year, Exercise Crested Eagle, and hectic days are ahead. Some of the luckier lads who are going to avoid exercising are W02 Jim Gleeson, Sergeants John Hurley and Paul Harrison who have left on posting/promotion to Headquarters BAOR, Headquarters Intelligence and Survey Group BAOR and UK Support Detachment Allied Air Force Central Europe respectively. Congratulations and good luck to them all in their future appointments. New arrivals are Staff Sergeant John Jackson and Privates Gary MacDonald and Graham Whitehouse. There have been a few internal moves which have brought Corporal Pete Brown from Ord Branch to G Air and a straight changeover between W/Lance Corporal Linda Monk and W/Private Carol Tipping of R and D and GSD2 respectively. Last but not least congratulations go to Lance Corporal Tony Baillie on his promotion. A 1st Armoured Division HEADQUARTERS RAOC " I enjoyed ski-ing on Exercise Snow Queen Sir, may I go again next- year?" ORDNANCE COMPANY IT would be inappropriate to single out any one event in our Christmas festivities for its excellence, they were all very good indeed and congratulations are due to all the organisers. It is, however, worth mentioning the fact that those who sat at table sixteen on the night of the Sergeants Mess draw are still trying to find a truck big enough to carry all their winnings away. Mention must be made of Spanners Frampton who won everything except the sliding doors and conveyor belt " What a lot he's got." (Hey Ho!). Competitive sport in the Unit seemed to grind to a halt over the festive season but we did manage to hold an inter- platoon swimming gala in the local Stadt pool, with Head- quarters Platoon walking (?) away with the competition. Two added bonuses for the Company over the last month have been the arrival in Soltau of an RPC detachment who have relieved us of the commitment of providing the RP and the return of the eight of our number who were due to go to Northern Ireland with 4/7 but were RTUd on the cancellation of this tour. Nice to have you back! The Unit has to say farewell to Sergeant Scott Irvine and his .wife Sylvia on his return to civvy street We wish them both the very best in the future and thank them both for their support. The Coffee Shop would not have been the same without them. Welcome to Private Gooden. THE accent, this month, within the Head- quarters, is definitely on training. After almost two weeks abstention from any sort of physical exertion one can almost feel the excitement and anticipation as train- ing once again starts for our half yearly k BFT.
