Certain members, of the platoon put in a lol of hard work nt losing weight during December, but unfortunately to no avail. I'm sure Lance Corporal Davenport, Privates l-'calonby and Jessop know what I'm referring to. Sergeant Walsh has con- tinued with his Cross Country running and there arc now three, five-a-sidc soccer teams in the platoon. The .22 shooting team have been busy with Private Mason scoring several ninety nines and it has been rumoured that Lance Corporal Hnrdmnn succeeded in scoring seventy. Exercise Snow Queen is now in full flight. I'm sure all readers will be glad to know that Private Bennett is slowly recovering from his accident on the last course. Lance Corporal Wilson is now out of hospital with no visible ill effects, but I believe he's trying to emulate Captain Kerr's haircut! Is this taking loyalty too far? Sadly, the Platoon has had to say farewell to Lieutenant Graeme Hazlcwood who has been posted to the RMC Shrivcn- ham to start his ATO Course. He has contributed a great deal to the Unit and will be hard to replace. Mandy Dancy has also left, but in happier circumstances as she is expecting a baby in the Spring. The Platoon would like to thank them for all they have done and wish them every success. Second Lieutenant Gorsuch has arrived direct from Sandhurst and is at present trying to pass his HGV III—Lance Corporal Biggs has been looking very pale and worried over the last few days. On that note we were to have concluded but news hot from the grapevine is that Lieutenant Graeme Hazlcwood and Lieutenant Olive Neeley have become engaged—Congratulations. Tom Berry and Manfred Funda after the presentation. 2 n d Armoured Division Spring. Arc there any other Corps Units interested in taking put!? Welcome to Corporal McDouall and congratulations to Lance Corporal and Mrs Wilde on the arrival of their baby daughter. Corporal Crowshaw leaves us on promotion and the wide open spaces of Canada. Our farewells also go to Sergeant Price, Corporals Stcsvart and White, and Lance Corporal Kavanagh. HEADQUARTERS RAOC 1980 is going to be a busy year. This was brought home to all members of the Headquarters when they filled in the Exercises and commitments on their year planners. Leave could be difficult to fit in round the exercises but space and time will be found. W02 Allport's bid was first into the Adjutants tray when bids were requested. The winter is being very kind to the Adjutant who is still commuting from Osna- bruck. The heavy snow and frost will no doubt catch up with us in time for CRAOCs exercise in late March. This month has seen the departure of one of the old and bold and we wish Major Barry Jones the best of luck at LE(A). Major Jones is taking steps to ensure that his huge Peugot does not run away with his military salary and will commute on a two wheeled machine with a Singer engine! Sport has been re-activated now that blood v alcohol levels have reached a more normal level. The Headquarters RAOC volleyball team has taken to the court and are so awe inspiring that for the second match the other team failed to turn up. W02 Allport and Corporal Welbourne are part of the successful Divisional Headquarters basketball team and spend more time out than in. We welcome Major Jim Steele and his wife Joyce to Lubbecke and hope they have a happy tour. Sergeant Mick Haverty and his wife Anna May, have almost joined us and when they have perhaps we will see more of him in the office. OD 87 SUPPLY DEPOT WE arc now in full swing preparing for our Annual Admini- strative Visit and Technical Inspection, together with the many attendant ancillary Inspections; we have been warned to carry out the BAOR Tickle Test, but as I look out of the window, I see the snow season is still with us. Maybe we will be permitted to do the test on skis! Captain Chris Rowland almost spent New Years Eve with the OCs cat in Block 6. The OC was in UK on leave and left Lucy in our ' kennel' and Captain Rowland decided to check on New Years Eve that she was still in good health. Lance Corporal Ian McGill, who was on duty at the time, saw the door open and promptly locked it. To Captain Rowland's dismay he had visions of spending the night with Lucy—and not his dear wife who has just joined him. We wish her a happy stay with us. We also wish their dog (amazing) Grace a good tree-hunting posting. This month we say farewell to Corporal Bob Sidgwick on posting to Catterick. We wish him all the best for the future. ORDNANCE COMPANY WE are pleased to mention some of our civilian contingent this month as the DDOS 1 (BR) Corps, Brigadier Whalley presented Meritorious Service Certificates to Manfred Funda from Mechanised Transport, Alois Kramer from the Storehouse and Tom Berry from PC and A . . . congratulations. Congratulations are also in store for Corporal Tomkinson on the presentation of his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. The Unit Small Bore Team fight on to keep up to date with all the deadlines set in their various competitions and hope- fully, will get some measure of success for their efforts. We are beginning to look forward to the CRAOCs exercise, Iron Band, this month. As soon as we have finished site guard half the Unit will be on driver training to ensure the company is fully mobile. Our golfers—CSM Evans, Staff Sergeant Bill Tonkins, Sergeant Dennis Price and Corporal Alec Livingstone—enjoyed a weekend golfing at the invitation of 1st Armoured Division Ordnance Company. The weekend was an all round success, both on and off the course. Thanks go to our hosts, Sergeant John Corless and Sergeant Ron Gray and his wife, Babs. We are pleased to report that we departed victorious—although only by one game—and look forward to hosting a return match in the — Brigadier Whalley and Lieutenant Colonel Jackson listening to 3 briefing by our Petroleum expert Sergeant- David Baynham. 324 — |
