HEADQUARTERS
RAOC
ORD and Emc Branches combined for a
very successful staff party which was
organised by WOl Al Sutton—though the
highlight was the Sergeants Mess Christmas
draw.
Although WOs2 Tom Tait and
George Strugnell were the only ones to win
a prize or two everyone enjoyed themselves.
The CRAOC and his family left us to go
on Exercise Snowquccn and indulge in a
spot of ski-ing. By all accounts he is a better gymnast than skier.
Not to be outdone our intrepid cyclist, Major John Evans
went skating the other day, unfortunately he was on his bicycle.
Suffice to say that he found silting down most uncomfortable
for a few days afterwards.
Corporal Jock Paterson our Chief Clerk took himself off to
Blackdown for an MTI course which he successfully completed.
Our S02 Combat Supplies, Major Richard Jarman, has
disappeared yet again to UK. This time to learn maths. His
right hand man Staff Sergeant Jim Burnett has been heard
to mutter something about getting Majors pay.
We say a fond farewell to our typist Leslie Nuttal who has
left us to go to Israel, and welcome in her place Miss Karen
Bresloff. We also welcome back into the fold Lance Corporal
Luke O'Neill in place of Private Tony Broadbcnt who has
returned to the Ordnance Company prior to his departure for
Belize.
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
MANV readers who have served in Detmold and particularly
in Elles Barracks will be interested to hear that after more
than thirty years service with Army Units including more than
twenty with the RAOC, Herr Kurt Kleinegecs has finally retired.
We saw him off with a mountain of presents including a tankard
inscribed " From the many friends you have made during your
service with the RAOC." Understandably, he was very sad
to be leaving us.
Also on the move was our Second-in-Command, Captain
Gunson who has now joined Headquarters 6th Field Force
in Aldershot where he hopes to undertake a rest cure. He'll
be lucky! Our photo shows him falling out for the last time.
Also leaving us during this period was Lance Corporal O'Neill
who is now in CRAOC's office at Herford where we wish him
the very best of luck.
HEADQUARTERS
RAOC
DESPITE rumours that may have been circulated to the con-
trary, Headquarters RAOC Corps Troops is alive and well and
as it is some time since this Unit featured on the pages of this
esteemed publication, it is considered an appropriate time to
catalogue its members. In the hot scat of CRAOC is Lieutenant
Colonel Hcllis, who has recently arrived from Wilton, he is ably
supported by two SOs2 who arc Majors Gibson and Grainger.
Captain Wood is the Adjutant, shortly to depart for exotic
pastures and service al LE(A). WOsI Trcbblc, Wilkinson and
Brant, the latter although part of the Headquarters resides in
Dortmund, (very wise some say), arc the Headquarters AOWOs.
In the Technical Control Office we find W02 D'Souza (occasion-
ally when his sporting activities permit). Staff Sergeant Bowkcr,
congratulations on your recent promotion and Sergeant
' Pickford ' Muggleton. Chief Clerk is Staff Sergeant Mabbott,
who has just been joined by Corporal Aisbitt, we wish him and
his wife Karen a happy tour in Bielefeld. The most popular
member of the staff is undoubtedly Sergeant Appleby RAPC,
this however, is not an opinion shared by Bell Fruit; readers
who know the aforementioned have two minutes to form a
mental picture. Finally, although he endeavours to convince us
all that his scat is as hot as CRAOCs, we find Lance Corporal
Lavin; he joins the ranks of married men in May, obviously
realising that you cannot go through life being happy. How-
ever, we wish him and his Dutch bride Bea, every success for
their future happiness. We say farewell to Corporal Potts to
civilian life and Corporal Chalmers to 1 (BR) Corps Stores
Company, and wish them both well.
STORES PLATOON CORPS TROOPS WORKSHOP
EVERYONE at the moment seems to be away on courses and
leave etc. Private ' Muppct' Macgregor will certainly remember
last November as this was the month he gave up being foot
loose and honey free and married Miss Susan Brown from
Bicester. Congratulations to both from all members of the
Stores Platoon.
Lance Corporal ' J o e ' Fielding also had cause to celebrate
during this period when his wife Jane gave birth to a baby
girl at BMH Rinteln, congratulations to all concerned.
Courses during this period were many and varied, Corporal
'Alan ' Mayoh has been for a few weeks to Blackdown on a
Military Training Instructors course. Lance Corporal ' Steve'
Butcher also went to sunny Blackdown for his Bill Supply
Clerks course and Lance Corporal ' J o e ' Fielding passed his
RPCII course here at Mossbank Barracks. Congratulations to
all of you on your excellent course results.
STORES PLATOON 22 AD REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
ON the postings front we have lost three stalwarts in Corporal
Steve Hall, Lance Corporal Skippy Newman and Private Geordie
Purkins and we wish them well. We welcome.Private Heaton.
He immediately went back to work on ammunition when the
QM(T) needed him and Private Hockaday to backload rockets.
Even the sub-zero temperatures did not dismay them as it has
not dismayed our gallant storemen under Sergeant John Taylor,
who have kept going in their ' refrigerator.' Sergeant Taylor
has got the bowling tournament going (first darts and table
tennis now bowling—what next?), and there is a rumour that
Private Oggie Matthews has been tipped as favourite!
The hot news at the moment is the three two win over
1 CTOC in the first leg of the DDOS cup. Q Kevin Ashworth
proved he is blind without his glasses! Excellent work by
Dave Roberts, Ron King, Jimmy Last ' Scouse' Wycherley and
Dave Inman gave the ' older' lads breathing space and they
might make it to the next leg. Read the next issue of THE
GAZETTE to see how the second leg goes!
Captain Gunson briskly on the move.
Our new Garrison Commander, Brigadier Stibbon, visited
us for the first time in January. The visit was concluded with
the presentation of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal
to Sergeant P. Mead.
On the sports side things have been quiet due to holidays
and bad weather but we did run a team in the BAOR Cross
Country and despite the presence of the experts we did not
come last. We are however wondering why the entry was so
poor and suggest that a change of venue might overcome this
in 1981.
Finally, congratulations to Lance Corporal O'Neill on
gaining his first stripe before leaving us and a big welcome to
new arrivals Lance Corporal Hodby and Privates Clissold and
White.

STORES SECTION
617 TANK TRANSPORTER
WORKSHOP
ONE or two interesting events have taken place since our last
write-up.
We were visited by CRAOC, Corps Troops Lieutenant
Colonel Hellis, who seemed quite interested in our unusual
MSO set up. The visit was informal and this enabled us to
discuss one or two problem areas with him.
We also received the long anticipated order to " Crash
Out." Twice a year, 7 Tank Transporter Regiment RCT, of
which we are part and parcel, enters a two week stand-by period
to deploy. At anytime during those two weeks we could be
called upon to move. This time it happened on the very last
