Transcription CONTROL DIVISION
ANOTHER highly successful fishing trip has been organised
by Corporal Jock Foster; a boat was taken out from Burnham-
on-Crouch. Most profitable catches included the one by Staff
Sergeant Chas McDonald's son, Charlie. Most ill fisherman
was Jock Foster himself, who had been entertained too well
the night before, by old friends, who are now members of 7 Field
Force Ordnance Company in Colchester.
Entertainment was also the order of the day at the Tally-
Ho when Corporal Jim Clarke held a leaving party there.
On the sporting side, a DSM team won a 16 Battalion six-a-
side hockey competition thanks to the mid-field leadership of
W02 Geoff Malthouse, the goal-scoring of Sergeant Ivan
Arathoon and the aggressive goal keeping of Captain Mike
Murphy. Also supporting were Corporal Colin Guilfoyle and
Lance Corporals Nigel Ings and Kevin Glasspool. A little
flexible umpiring by Lance Corporal Geoff Miller also helped.
Lance Corporal Miller has been selected for a Military
Training Instruction Course at the end of March. Returning
from his HGV 3 course is Sergeant Ivan McArthur.
Leaving for Rhodesia to assist in the withdrawal of British
troops are Sergeant Bob Taylor and Corporal Jock Paton, who
will spend three weeks there. On detachment to Belize for
six months will be Sergeant Dai Green, to take the acting rank
of Staff Sergeant. Also, to hold acting rank on his posting to
Northern Ireland will be W 2 Ron Cawley. Other postings out
are Corporal Bob Revill, to Cyprus, Corporal Jock Foster to
Canada, and Sergeant Taff Linton to BAOR.
Postings in
include Sergeant Brian Welkes and Corporal Colin Guilfoyle.
Also welcomed back from hospital is Staff Sergeant Chas
McDonald.
Finally, hopes for a happy retirement to Mrs Anne
Gormley, who has been working for the last twenty two years
with RAOC at Donnington and Bicester. There has been a long
association with the Corps by others in the Gormley family
which we hope to feature soon.
RSM Brace of C V H Q presents General Callan with a RAOC
Sponsored Units T A tie on his farewell visit to Training Centre.
and Major Harry Davey (Retd) move downstairs and Colonel
Bob Allen (Retd), Major David Elliott (the CRLO) and Mrs
Sheila Johnson, their busy clerk, move upstairs. The move
was organised without a hitch by the Superintending Clerk
WOl Archie Claydon!
With the cross country running season coming to a close,
Lance Corporal Colin Wimble has abandoned his printing
machines in the Reprographic Centre to punish himself in the
League. Major Keith Mentzel, the S02 AQ has successfully
moved house and beats the body at lunch times while the rest
of the Headquarters do their early morning session.
W02 Paul Clithero and W02 Pete Stead are trying their
luck at Aviemore, the former has been blessed with a posting to
Kenya in April.
Directorate of Supply Computer Services
HAVE been unable, as yet, to find a more permanent scribe but
avid readers in DSCS should watch out. My predecessor had at
least established a number of ' local correspondents ' so material
for publication is available. Lieutenant Colonel Hudson-Peacock
was awarded ' Stringer of the Month' for last month's con-
tribution and this month's award must go to Captain John
Dunn for his ' story' about how he and Captain Hugh Mundy
are planning a cycle trip from Lands End to John O'Groats.
Ride on! We look forward to a full report later. From the
same source I understand that W 2 John Collison is getting
plenty of opportunity to pursue his hobby of repairing cars
since teaching his wife to drive. He is becoming an expert on
the ditches around Bicester.
From further afield in Block 8, readers will be pleased
to hear that Major Chris Wraight returned safely from his
trip to BAOR with the Director. Mutterings were heard about
having to pay duty and later still about more work. Major Dave
Reid and Major Gary Miller, our two exchange officers, have
managed to pack their wives off to the States by taking advantage
of the indulgence scheme. Gary Miller is rapidly filling in a
yellow form to follow them now realising just how easy it is,
but assures us that it's not because he dislikes England.
Visits to DSCS have been popular recently. We welcomed
Chief-of-Staff Logistics, Major - General Robert Stavely who
spent the day with us. A Defence Sales sponsored visit of six
Malaysian officers' including their Chief Logistician Major
General Datuk Hassan Bin Haji Mohd Saleh followed and
during their visit the Representative Colonel Commandant Major
General P. Minogue was able to present a Silver Jubilee Bowl
to Lieutenant Colonel Mustapha Mansor, who received it on
behalf of the Malaysian Ordnance Corps. The Second Permanent
Under Secretary, Sir Arthur Hockaday was our most recent
visitor, and was able to spend the day finding out exactly what
DSCS does (at least one person now knows).
One new arrival this month: Captain Graeme Paton from
the Combat Supplies Battalion is a welcome addition to Am-
munition Branch.
Finally, readers wishing to trace the whereabouts of RAOC
officers should look no further than-DSCS—we have forty eight
of them!
CENTRAL VOLUNTEER
HEADQUARTERS
WE are very pleased to report that Lieutenant Colonel Ray
Dickey is making good progress after his operation. Come
back soon, all is forgiven!
We may have our faults, but to receive a letter from an-
other military establishment addressed to ' Shower Unit RAOC,
CVHQ RAOC' was a bit much!
We welcome Corporal Mick Morea and family and hope
their stay here will be a happy one. What ever, we are sure he
will always remember his posting to CVHQ!
Staff Sergeant Jeff King, our Chief Clerk, has been admitted
to hospital, and all at CVHQ wish him a speedy recovery. His
place has been taken on a temporary basis by Staff Sergeant
Peter Smith to whom we bid welcome.
Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Colin Mears and, of course,
to his wife Carol, on the birth of a daughter.
SCHOOL OF ORDNANCE
THE Commandant decided to brighten a Monday morning.
and all our lives, by giving a Regimental Breakfast. The quantity
of champagne and claret consumed amply made up for the
shortage of kippers. It was good to see Brigadier Ian Mac-
donald, albeit without kilt, amongst the Commandant's guests
and we are sorry that he had to depart before proceedings were
completed. All are agreed that a Regimental Breakfast is the
only civilised way to start a working week.
Major Malcolm Bryant continues to keep in touch with
sport by managing a very successful Army Cross Country
team.
RQMS John Bell is running, and playing in, the Training
Centre Badminton team which competes in the Woking League.
We have said farewell to Major Lance Brett and wish him
well in his new post in Headquarters SEDIST.
Alec Peters (formerly a Conductor in the Corps) is shortly
leaving us after over eight years at the School in both a
military and civilian capacity. Alec has found himself a job
with the NATO Supply Agency in Luxembourg.
Hissing Sid, in the guise of SI Log, has dominated Log
Branch activities /discussions during the past week and, with his
singing prowess, is considering making a record to compete with
Keith Mitchell's ' Captain Beaky.'
A number of our Grade 3 Officers have recently started
paying obeisance to Captain Brian Mobley; need we add that
Brian's next appointment is with AG9.
Captain Peter Claughton recently captained the Corps
