Transcription We had an intcr-dcpartmental cross country competition
recently. The individual winner, some fifty seconds ahead of
the field, was Private Keith Jones. The photograph shows him
already well in front of the field after only one kilometre.
We congratulate Lance Corporal and Mrs Jim O'Connor
of our attached Signal Troop on the birth of Kerry. We wel-
come on rc-cnlistment Private Trevor Collcdgc, and on posting
to our Signal Troop Sergeant Dave Smith.

HEADQUARTERS
W02 M. J. MARSHALL has officially transferred to RAOC in
the rank of SQMS. He had previously been in the Royal
Artillery in various trades, culminating in that of Operator
Artillery Intelligence. Prior to transfer, however, he retrained
as a Works Study Operator, and is now serving in the Plan-
ning Branch of the Headquarters. During his qualifying period
he stood out like a sore thumb in his blue RA sweater. When
formally welcoming him into the Corps, therefore, Colonel
Edwards included a green ' woolly-pully' with the lanyard,
stable belt and RAOC badges which his new form of dress
requires.
Once a Gunner
W02 Marshall is re-kitted at Viersen.

THIS month sees the handover of Commandants Colonel Bill
Musson is off to the land of earthquakes—CAD Longtown and
Colonel Peter Dodworth takes over as Commandant. The Unit
would like to wish Colonel and Mrs Musson all the best in
their new posting and to welcome Colonel and Mrs Dodworth to
Bracht. Major and Mrs Peter Price also are off to Longtown
at the end of the month and our good wishes go with them.
Major Ian Marshall takes over as SATO.
On the sporting scene Major Jock Williamson and his
henchmen have been training hard for the BAOR rugby final,
their training is however shrouded in secrecy so no more can be
said except to wish them the best of luck when they meet
7 Signals. The hockey team has had mixed fortunes, of four
matches scheduled three have been lost, narrowly I might
add, and one abandoned. The last game, against 16 Signals,
was lost throungh default, the team couldn't find Krefeld—say
no more! The game at AFCENT was abandoned because of a
water logged pitch, but the day was not wasted as a Probables
v Possibles match was quickly arranged at Bracht. The most
effective player turned out to be Mrs Angie O'Brien who had
volunteered to make up the numbers! Perhaps the men with the
curly sticks will have better luck in future. The soccer scene
sees the 3 BAD side once again through to the semi-finals of
the DOS Cup thanks to a strong defence and a goal by Sergeant
Jack (Muscles on his muscles) Kelly in the quarter-final against
Wulfen. The cup has actually been held by 3 BAD for three
years so if we win again can we keep it? In the other games
played the team has won one against 438 MCLG three nil
(Corporal Bert and Staff Sergeant Dave (Super Sub) Bradley) and
lost (wo oilier about which there is nothing more to add! On
a sad note Staff Sergeant Dave Bradley of squash fame has
broken his leg; it was a bad break and everybody wishes him a
speedy recovery. As a result of Staff Sergeant Bradley's accident,
the Unit squash players arc now intent on meeting out ' just
retribution ' to those members of the football team who coaxed
Staff Bradley on to the soccer field. Captain Alan Singer and
W02 Jim Richardson don't be lulled by innocent invitations to
play squash!
The remainder of the squash team arc battling hard to
make good the loss but only coming away second best every;
time. The second team however arc scoring over fifty per cent
victories. As yet there is no replacement for Staff Sergeant;
Bradley as the No. 1 however, this is being hotly contested by
Sergeant Andy Vinicombc, Corporals Denis Scton and Danny
Daniel. It should be noted that Mrs Angie O'Brien has at one
time or another, beaten the aforementioned—but Corporal
Danny Daniel did advise that the fact 'just better not be
printed'! Oh well! Angie O'Brien is perhaps the most success-
ful of our players in that she recently won a tournament at a
local club in Krefeld and was rewarded with four days in
Paris. Her husband Captain Peter O'Brien is due for R and R
shortly so that will be a very pleasant surprise.
Congratulations to W02 Dave Marsh and Staff Sergeant
Charlie Hunter on their promotions.
PS. Anyone with a good repertoire of after dinner jokes please
contact the CA O, Lieutenant Colonel Bill Manuel.

only problem was that they came back
to the twentieth century. Mind you, the club is going from
strength to strength but I'm afraid the same can't be said about
the Station football team which seems to be getting weaker and
weaker due to pressure of work and sneaky pre-ARU inspections.
The Station hockey team remains undefeated this year and
it is improving all the time. Corporal Bonsu and S:rgeant
Murphy from FVD adding their strengths and Lance Corporal
Morris 154 FAD. back from many, many courses adding his.
The Station rugby team had a good win two Saturdays
ago beating Hamburg fourteen to nine, and Hamburg had help
(or was it hindrance?) from Wulfen reserves.
Changes have taken place in the general running of Station
activities. Mrs Joan Goodenough has taken command of the
Kindergarten on the departure of Mrs Rosemary Crawley after
two and a half years in the seat so to speak. Captain Brian
Crawley has had to hand over the task of Church Warden to
Corporal Ray Julyan our man from Control. Brian and Rosemary
thanks for your work in the Station.

MILITARY skills are alive and well and thriving in Wulfen,
the ARU cometh. So it's out with the Basic Battle Skills book-
let and on with the DPM. It's amazing how many people you
can get on parade at one time, especially at half past seven in
the morning for BFT training.

Many of the SNCOs have a chance to show their true'
colours ie, Orderly Room Sergeant—Drill, Chief Clerk Control
Wing—SMG Instructor, that's Staff Sergeant Stu Veazey our;
intrepid youth club leader who is posted to Viersen in the
summer and who at the moment is sweating on his EPC(Adv),
as is Sergeant Geordie Fielding who is our resident NBC in-
structor. Sergeant Mac McDonald (Bob Paisley failed) who
manages?! the Station football team has been heard to mutter
Pohr! Pohr! Must be a Scottish war cry meaning Money!
Money!
We welcome WOl and Mrs John Crawford, Private Brown
(I'm only here for the tapes), and Privates Hobbs and Hayward
all from Bicester. Private Hayward has a dad in the ACC who
is at present resident in Munster. Mum Hayward added a dab
hand in obtaining son's movement details where. lesser mortals
had failed. We say farewell to Sergeant and Mrs Alan Sadding-
ton who leave us for the Army School of Ammunition.
