THE RAOC GAZETTE FVD RECKLINGHAUSEN THE paper war and pre-ARU Inspections continue unabated to say nothing of our unflagging efforts to clear up the technical backlog resulting from the TA Pool. To help matters along, the boiler house turned off the pumping system during the cold spell and we have had to suffer fourteen days without proper heating. This was not as has been rumoured, part of the ARU hardening up process. More interesting sidelines have been the appointment of the OC as a Rote-Weis Karnival Senator and the participation of the Depot Officers and the Workshop Commander in a cookery demonstration at the VEG in Recklinghausen. Major Robertson and the OC are still arguing as to whether the formers Boeuf Wellington (without salt) was better than the latters Eisberg Salade! It is rumoured that the Technical Officer intimated that too many cooks spoil the broth and therefore supervised the whole proceedings. Our Bundeswehr colleagues were well prepared and brought along a German twenty four hour pack! We congratulate Private Revill on obtaining an 'A' grading on his Vehicle Specialist Conversion Course and Staff Sergeant Keelor on raising £135 for the Olympic Appeal Fund—if they now require it! Messrs Thompson and Scarrott have made their debut in the Rally field and came ninth in the first event of the season—a very creditable performance. Private Parsons has been promoted to Lance Corporal and Lance Corporals Cumber- land and Murden to Corporal. We welcome to the Unit Privates Dooley and Williams whilst we say farewell to Captain Crawley on posting to Donnington. 1st British Corps AQ COORD is our featured branch this month. AQ Coord has had an eventful month domina- ted by WOl Frank Linnane's tour of the Globe— and we congratulate him on his success with the squash racquet. Staff Sergeant Dave Stevens has fingers crossed for a posting to Amman and con- dolences to Sergeant Jim Kelly on being trans- ferred from the Regimental football team to the Sunday under elevens. We would like to give a mention to our two WRAC girls, Lance Corporal Pat Hannah and Private Karen Quigley who are both avid readers of THE GAZETTE and thank them for their continued support. Staff Sergeant Jim Reynolds has left SD 1 to become PA to the QMG and we wish him well on his new posting. In Jim's place we welcome Staff Sergeant Gerry Trottier who joins us on promotion from Headquarters AFCENT. Congratulations and welcome Gerry. W02 Bill Johnston of AQ Ops has at last received his posting order and is to go to the MOD on the staff of the DASD in June, on promotion. What a shame you won't be with us for Crusader Bill. At this stage we would like to give a mention to the RAOC lad in the Operational Analysis Department (OAD), even though he is not a Staff Clerk. Lance Corporal Alex McLeod is the Driver/Clerk to the Head of OAD and although he leaves us on posting to 1 Ammunition IDU we thought that he should have a mention. Good luck in your posting Alex. In his place we welcome Lance Corporal Dave Dart who, we hear, has recently married. Congratulations Dave. There is a story going the rounds of a Sergeant, who wishes to remain nameless, although he is employed in R and D, who took off on a weekend trip, to take some personal effects home to the UK, in a borrowed van. He managed to get into Belgium before breaking down. He insists that he had a good time in the Sergeants Mess and really enjoyed the seven hour train journey back. By the time this goes to print he will have made another attempt in his own car and we sincerely hope he made it that time. The Staff and Technical side of the Ordnance Corps in the Headquarters are actually getting together in the Sergeants Mess this month to dine out Brigadier Whalley the DDOS and we wish to take this opportunity to wish him all the best in his new appointment and to welcome Brigadier Skinner in his place. Congratulations this month go to Corporals Steve Kemp and Gary Middleton on passing their RPCI course, to Corporal Bob Stewart RPC our Post NCO on passing his Unit postal NCOs course and to Lance Corporals John Heath and Mark Gore on their promotions. We welcome Lance Bombardier Mick Home who joins us from 25 Field Regiment, W/Private Ann Gaskell whose sister is already with the Headquarters and Private Jack Lemon. » ^^k M^L ^f ^ ^ ^^^^^^ ^H||^v ^ B ^m ^ ^ ^ ^m — 359 PRICE £15.85 ADVERTISEMENTS Size: 4 i " including base (inc.
