HEADQUARTERS
RAOC
IT was due to people going to and from
Exercise Snow Queen that the only night
possible to hold a farewell party for
Major Byron Harness, Sergeant Dave
Burrell, Mrs Ann Gaton (typist) and Mrs
Sue Davison (typist? clerk? nobody is
really sure), was on a Monday night. To
cut a long story short, ' The following
morning' several members of Headquarters RAOC descended
on BMH Iserlohn, and contrary to popular belief they were
not looking for a miracle cure for hangovers but supposedly
doing an Ordnance Ancillary Inspection.
One of the few
people who left the farewell party unscathed so to speak was
W02 Danny Danvers, he along with a few staff clerks (we
might mention them later), participated in the Dortmund
Services bowling league championships on the same evening
competing against Americans, German, Dutch and French
troops as well as our own and came away with a total of
eighteen trophies, well done! The Headquarters team comprised
all RAOC members; W02 Danny Danvers, Staff Sergeant Bill
McBurney, Corporal John Dixon and Lance Corporal Paul
Lidster.

New arrivals to the Iron Division (you 11 need a will ot
iron to survive) are Major Page and Sergeant Art Matthews-
all the best to you and your families during your tour.
G BRANCH. As we draw to the end of February we shall be
saying our farewells to Lance Corporal Jock Conway who
leaves us for Northern Ireland as a full Corporal, thanks for
all your support (even if most of it has been in the discos
down town) and good luck for the future. We also say good-
bye to Corporal Patch Sked who is going to RMA Sandhurst;
our best wishes also go to him.
The Chief Clerk, Staff Sergeant Mick Woolley, who has
now settled in very well, and has even managed to take over
Staff Sergeant Jensens (now W02) office up the Shack, much
to the amazement of the rest of the G Clerks. Lance Corporal
Lee Doel has recently returned from hospital where he was put
under the knife, we all wish him a quick recovery.
New
arrival is Corporal Ross Hale all the way from Hong Kong,
our commiserations go to him.
Just lately Lance Corporal Steve Carter RE has been seen
working late, and being an honorary member of G Branch we
thought that we would give him a mention (also his very close
assistant Mrs Angie Barker).

The battle in the office to see who is going to win in the
lucky dip still goes on between Privates ' H ' Haw and Taff
Davies but there is sure to be an outcome soon.
AQ BRANCH.
Our Chief Clerk W02 Eddie Mayes is still
craftily planning leave again, and his fluency of the local lingo
is just too much to believe. Our Operations Sergeant Glynn
Davies can be seen grinning like a Cheshire cat and mumbling
something about days to do!
Corpora! John Dixon surprised us all by hobbling back
early from Exercise Snow Queen muttering " Go for Gold."
Lance Corporal Allen Jones is now busily packing his MFOs
and preparing to leave us all for good, back to Wales and good
old ' Civvy Street.' We would like to wish him all the best
and are still ardently trying to talk him out of ' Taking the
Plunge' and becoming a pad. Lance Corporal John Groom is
scheming away for his next leave and is still as loony
us ever!
ORDNANCE
COMPANY
THE Company Langlauf Team took part in the Divisional ski
meeting held at Zwiesel, a small town on the Czechoslovakian
border. The team did not win any prizes but attained a standard
of Langlaufing far above that previously reached by the Com-
pany. We now have a firm base upon which to build for next
season and are confident of returning with some trophies.
Welcome to Captain Jacques who has been posted in to
take over the AOs job from Major Bettaney. We wish Major
Bcttaney and his wife Claire every success in their new posting
in Northern Ireland. Other newcomers to the Unit include W02
Carroll, Sergeant Carr, Lance Corporals Collins and Willis,
Privates Turner, Doherty, Goodwill and Mackey. Welcome to
the Unit! A sad farewell is made to W02 Raffan and Lance
Corporal Ward.
Congratulations are due this month to Staff Sergeant
Connors, and Sergeant Sidall on their recent promotions and to
Private Lawson on his ' upgrading.'
United we stand
Corporal Short (with hat) and Lance"
Corporal Robertson at the Divisional Ski Meeting held at Zwiesel.
ENGINEER REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
PRIDE of place in our notes this month goes to Sergeant Graham
Rowles. The Regiment held a cross country race over a course
of four and a half miles and Graham, true to RAOC tradition,
was first home. {What happened to the photograph!—Editor).
Private Jim Latham, who is patiently awaiting his promotion
to Lance Corporal, has been selected to represent the Regiment
at golf.
We now have a very happy NCO in our Unit, namely
Lance Corporal Mick Lowrie, whose posting order has been
changed to Ordnance Depot Antwerp. He is jovial because his
LOA there will increase his wages to more than that of Corporal
Chris Moore, our Chief Clerk!
Our boss, W02 Bruce Legg, at the time of writing these
notes, is swanning round BAOR inspecting Units on a Staff
Study of Spares Support. Alas, he is only away for a fortnight
so no doubt on his return we will hear ' Why has this not been
done' and ' Who authorised the Local Purchase of that.' Oh,
well, all good things must come to an end, so whilst I sit in his
chair I can always dream what it's like to be the boss of an
RAOC Stores Section—which by the way this is one of the best!
STORES PLATOON 5 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
ENTERING fully into the spirit of ski-ing, the members of the
Platoon who took part in Snow Queen 80 have replaced the
traditional cry of ' Hals und Beinbruck' with that of ' Don't
panic, snowplough'! The first party to hit the slopes was ably
led by Lieutenant ' I think it's my knee' King and consisted
of Privates Taff Luke, Paul Mehew, Jon Hosier, Rick Johnson
and Paul Davies. Jon Hosier proved it is possible to ski on
his chin, Taff won the downhill race, Paul Mehew proved he
can ski faster backwards and the Second-in-Command sprained
his stein lifting arm.
Nothing much has been heard from the second party led by
Captain Jeremy Parsons. Rumour control has it that Lance
Corporal Mick Henry is still falling over—rather unfortunate
as he is working in the Officers Mess!
New arrivals in the Platoon are Corporal Gordon Raw,
Privates John Snell and Gordon Jones. Nice to have you with us
gentlemen, we hope you enjoy your stay.
WILL ALL contributors kindly note that the deadline
date for receipt of copy at THE GAZETTE Office really is
the 29th of the month for publication a month later.
