See page 373. — T H E season just ended has seen a resurgence of the Corps as a cross country power to be reckoned with in the field of Army cross country running. Individually, Sergeant Mick Binks of F O D Dulmen dominated the B A O R scene, winning the Rhine Area, B A O R and the BAOR versus R A F (Germany) match. Although slightly off peak, he nonetheless finished seventh in the, Army championships and subsequently received his first A r m y colour in the Inter Services race held at R A F Halton. Binks also ran particularly well when finishing in sixth place in the A r m y versus Welsh A A A fixture held at Chepstow. Competing throughout the season for the Training Centre. Lieutenant Andy Shepherd w h o is attached to the Apprentices College, ran splendidly for both the Army and his Unit. In the Army final he finished in fifth position after holding third place for much of the race and gained his Army representative badge against the Royal N a v y and the Royal Air Force. In team competitions, F O D Dulmen won the Rhine Area. BAOR and Army minor Units championships for the second successive year and look a fair bet to complete a hat trick next year. A report on the outstanding season appears on page 370. T h e R A O C Training Centre, after a year of team build- ing, took second place in the South East District competition and sixth place in both the Army Major Units final and the Army Cross Country relay. A major confrontation between Dulmen and the Training Centre occurred in the Corps Championship held at Deepcut. when Dulmen won by the very narrow margin of six points. T h e season ended with the Annual Officers Veterans race held over a five and a half mile course at Arborfield. a report of which appears o n page 372. Perhaps 1980/81 season will see the Corps making an even greater impact on Army Cross Country running, a sport which has seen the Corps, over the years, produce a crop of well known sportsmen. 369 — |
