IN THE ARMY SQUAD CORPORAL CHRIS CHRISTOPHER was a member of this years Army rugby squad to play against both the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy at Twickenham. He is at present serving with 3 Base Ammunition Depot in BAOR. Chris comes from Swindon and has in recent years played Unit, Corps, Division, and BAOR representative rugby. existed for just over ten years, it provided a very efficient and personal service to its dependent Units which many will remember. BICESTER BRIDE OUR congratulations to Lance Corporal Philip McCabe and W/Private Heather Jones on their recent wedding at Bicester. Both are employed at the Central Registry COD but to give Lance Corporal McCabe some peace at work they have trans- ferred his new wife to Depot Transport, some three miles away! We wish them every good fortune and a successful future. Corporal Chris Christopher. CLOSURE OF OSU BOVINGTON Lance Corporal Philip McCabe and W / P r i v a t e Heather Jones become Lance Corporal and Mrs McCabe at Bicester. THIS Unit was formed on 1st September 1969 by the amalga- mation of the Barrack Stores in Blandford and Bovington. It was established in a spider hut complex which, despite its draw- backs as a modern storehouse, served its purpose well. The first OC was Major Frank McCormack who has since retired and now lives in York. He was followed by Captain John Mills, who sadly died in Hong Kong after leaving the Unit. Happily the next two incumbents, Major David Humphries and Major John Hunt, are still about. David runs the Stores Section at 27 Command Workshop REME, Warminster and John is now working for the Institute of Directors in London. It was therefore the sad duty_ of the last OC, Major Jim McLachlan, to ' close the shop.' .Although the small Unit only LIGHTS OUT IN Headquarters Northern Ireland, our local correspondent tells us, this month will be remembered as the month of the " Black Out." Some very big fuse must have blown somewhere and for twenty four hours there was no power. They knew in Headquarters RAOC that something was wrong when, after an hour, the kettle was still cold; three kettles later they were satisfied and the fact that there were no lights, confirmed their worst fears. The old desert rats in their midst were looking for some petrol and a brew tin and folks were running in all directions with useless electric kettles. It was the Operations rooms (who better) who saved the day, with a cable about one hundred and something miles long plugged into a watchman's hut at London Airport. Odd tales come from this part of the world. RAOC AIRBORNE OFFICERS REUNION DINNER THE 1980 Dinner will be held in Headquarters RAOC Officers Mess on Friday, 14th November 1980, at 19.30 hours.
