under the auspices of Captain Colin Young ACC gave our ACC cooks the opportunity of displaying their culinary arts. Lance Corporal Norman Cook ACC won the 16 Battalion trophy. Next time they will bemusing compo rations in the competition. A very entertaining quiz night was held in the Cannons Club as part of the RAOC Association club night. A very close contest resulted in a win by a team from DSM(A). Con- gratulations to the local secretary of the Bicester RAOC Associa- tion, Lieutenant John Morgan, who acted as Quizmaster. 2 SUB-DEPOT. Major Jim Tilling and a party of twenty five RAOC and WRAC soldiers recently took part in Exercise North Star in the Cairngorms. The exercise was to teach beginners the basic skills of ski-ing and to allow the more experienced a chance to practice. Congratulations to Mrs Lillian Short on her sixtieth birth- day. Farewell to our typist Mrs Mary McGill who has left us to join Stocktaking and Reconciliation and welcome to Mrs Valerie Lees who has joined us in the exchange. Central Ordnance Depot Donnington TO those discerning readers who always read the Donnington newsletter first, we offer our apologies for the short article last month. We are grateful to the Editor who made special arrange- ments to include our Building BI opening story instead. The Major Bill Roberts Tour Company is a booming business and recent important visitors have been: Major General Staveley, COSLOG, General Sir Timothy Creasey, Commander-in-Chief UKLF and Colonel John Alway and his staff from AG9. We were due to be ARU-ed on 17th March by Major General Ward-Booth, GOC, Western District, however, the GOC was absolutely satisfied with our pre-inspection staff reports and standards—so much so that he considered his visit to be unnecessary. To mark his signal honour a ' Non-ARU ' lunch was held to celebrate! Doubtless, 'non-bills' will follow! Some officers will do anything to get off a course and Major Ian Coppock managed to break his foot on the Com- mando course. He has been posted to Colchester to speed re- cuperation. Major Henry Bradshaw is now treading the carpeted corridors of power in UKLF—probably in his usual DMS footwear. Welcome back from Northern Ireland to Lieutenant Nigel Lloyd who eased his six months detachment by playing rugby for the 1 DWR team. The sound of MFO-boxes being hammered down by Major ' Hissing Sid ' Pincher will soon be replaced by the bagpipes of his successor Major Richard Powell. Officers on the ' patch ' are searching out their ear defenders. The Unit football team has clinched a place in the final of the Richards Cup and we keep our fingers crossed for them. Congratulations to Corporal Pat Mullen who has been selected to represent Army UK in an international small-bore target rifle match in Paderborn in May. The Donnington Small-Bore Rifle Club has retained the NSRA Master Shot and Marksmanship Shield 'A' (for the fourth successive year!) which is awarded annually to the Service Unit (including civilians) which accrues the most points annually in the competition. Finally, congratulations on promotion to Privates Jeremy Boote and Bob Hodgkinson to Lance Corporal and to Private Bob Hazell on marriage to Miss Diana Johnson. Welcome to WOsl Doyle and Barker, Corporal Kilnan, Lance Corporal Schofield and Privates Manning, Norman and Mackel. # Army Air Corps HEADQUARTERS DAAC ORD Corporal Pete Brown receives his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. a daily ration of carrot juice. As Corporal Bowser was twice seen challenging a tree and twice mistaken for being a tree. The meals were proven to be excellent as all players had a flashing smile on leaving the ' Ord (Air) Closet' whether this was due to the sudden intake of fresh air or the discovery of Dolci soft nobody knows. Staff Sergeant Mathers enthusiasm for ' all in stew' was concluded from the fact that he was quick to finish his chores, he slept well and enjoyed the crosswords. Proving that ' all in stew' helps you work, rest and play. 1 REGIMENT ARMY AIR CORPS. Staff Sergeant Emmott has now left for his tour in Northern Ireland with 651 Squad- ron AAC. Congratulations to Sergeant Trotman 661 Squad- ron who attended the RAF 4:72 Supply Controllers Course and obtained a one hundred per cent pass result. 2 AIRCRAFT SUPPORT UNIT. Of special mention this month must be that our parent Workshop won the BAOR Minor Units rugby cup and we are pleased to report that RAOC was represented in the form of Corporal Bob Parish. He now proudly displays two mementoes, one is his winners medal and the second a ball and chain which Sergeant Gordon is using to keep him at his desk for a while. It's amazing how much training is necessary to achieve fame! The Unit shooting team is also well represented by RAOC and we hope to report of some successes in this field in our next report Lance Corporal Chris Norris and Private Brian Hutchings have just returned from RAF Hereford where they tell us they managed to pass their 4/72 controllers course. We haven't seen the course reports yet though. Also sneaking off for the best part of the month was WOl Beaton who has been to Deepcut to complete some sort of Managers Course—we haven't seen his course report either. The other highlight of the month was the presentation of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Corporal Pete Brown by the Workshop Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Simpson. We enclose a photo of the shady character (Corporal Brown that is—not the CO) who managed to remain undetected for so long. Lastly, we welcome Private Eddie Legge from Depot—he helps to make the office look more crowded.
