the following message from the Guard Commander, -" Sir, we
have turned a blind eye whilst the EOD Team have planted the

his promotion to Acting Sergeant.

Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong
THE month of March in Hong Kong nearly passed in total
peace and quiet for the scribe who was carrying out a survey
on Ihc sun and sand in Thailand, unfortunately on return near
the end of the month he was called in for the Colony Internal
Security Exercise.
The Ordnance Depot, being full of keen and dedicated
troops, started a day early to be fully set up and ready—whilst
others were still preparing themselves.
The exercise went
very well and all were impressed with the performance of both
the British and Hong Kong troops.
As in all exercises funny incidents did occur, one such
incident came about when the Administration Officer (LDA
Commander) Major David Kime, informed Staff Sergeant Terry
Foster (Guard Commander) that two bombs had been dis-
covered near the Guard Location, and that the EOD team
were dealing with the matter. He was also told that a Gurkha
Soldier had come to work on the communication exchange.
Staff Sergeant Foster was told to post a Guard at either end of
the area to turn away anyone who approached and he was
also informed that the Gurkha who was having a cup of tea,

month also saw the departure of

our Commander for the past four and a
half years, Brigadier Norman Roberts, to UK on retirement.
The combined RBMR and ten GR Bands said farewell to
Brigadier and Mrs Roberts in style as they left Brunei. Brigadier
Norman Roberts will be sadly missed by the ' not too young'
rugby players in the Regiment. He was always a staunch sup-
porter of the team. We welcome our new Commander Brigadier
Cameron. We wish the Commander and his wife a happy stay
in the State.
Our Brunei Soldiers continue to take advantage of UK
courses. At present we have Lieutenant Mohidin attending the
Ordnance Officers Course at Blackdown and Staff Sergeant
Awang Besar and Jo Kilfli on the WOs and SNCOs Provision
Course. At the Army School of Ammunition, Kineton we
have Sergeant Sharudin doing the AT Course. The Ammunition
Depot personnel here have just returned from Hong Kong on
a familiarisation visit to Ammunition Depot. Again we wish
to thank Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong for giving us
their valuable time.
