Transcription RAOC V RAMC, Won 16-0. The game was played on a
very heavy pitch and it was a very windy day. This combination
resulted in a very scrappy match. A very young Corps side was
fielded, giving a chance to those players new to the Corps Squad.
The pack did not have everything its own way but superior
backs made the most of the limited amount of possession.
RAPC V RAOC Won 28-0. Another cold windy day and
very heavy underfoot. As the score indicates it was a very
one sided game although determined defence by the RAPC
kept the score down.
NEWBURY RFC V RAOC XV Lost 22-14. Because of
Army commitments it was not possible to field the full Corps
side. Silly mistakes gave Newbury a nineteen point start. The
Corps played very well in the second half and fought back but
Newbury fully deserved their victory.

the Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong who took part in
this gruelling event. They believe it!
They, together with more than seven hundred other com-
petitors, rose early—if not too bright—at, 0400 hours that morn-
ing to get to Pak Tarn Chung in the New Territories in time
for the 0630 hours start.
Conditions were ideal for running and as well as being
demanding, the course was both scenic and interesting.
There was a strong Japanese contingent in the event with
first and second places going to Japanese competitors. An
Army runner, WOl Brian Hart RMP was third and the COD
team all came in the first two hundred. WOl Andy McNaught
was our first man in in seventy fifth place.
Nothing earth shattering but good steady running neverthe-
less in such a large field. - Timings for our runners were:
Lieutenant Colonel Jim Keating, three hours thirty six minutes;
Captain Gordon Coombs, three hours twenty six minutes;
WOl Andy McNaught, three hours twenty two minutes; WOl
Dave Davies, three hours thirty eight minutes; WOl Terry
Brooks, three hours thirty five minutes; W02 Mai Dodd, three
hours forty one minutes; Staff Sergeant Ken Ray, three hours
fifty five minutes and Mr Tony Yip, three hours twenty six
minutes.
CORPS
TENNIS
CHAMPIONSHIPS
THE 1983 Corps Tennis Championships are being held at the
Royal Aldershot Officers Club from Thursday 14th July to
Saturday 16th July.
All events are open to all ranks to compete for the many
prizes in Single, Double and Mixed Events. In addition the
Apprentice College Finals will be played during the Cham-
pionships and there will again be a chocolate box competition
for those not playing in the finals.
Saturday has been chosen for the Finals Day as it is hoped
that this will enable many, otherwise hard pressed officers/
soldiers, to attend with their wives and families.
If you are interested in competing please contact your Unit
Tennis Representative or Major D. G. Avery on Bicester Military
Ext 2248 for entry forms. AH players who competed last year
will automatically be sent details. (All retired players should
notify any change of address since last year.)
CORPS
RUGBY
THE RAOC RUFC have enjoyed a mixed season. Because ot
the strength of the Corps side, on some occasions the strongest
side was unable to be fielded as Army commitments had to be
met from up to six players at a time.
RA V RAOC Won 30-0. This was the first Corps match
of the season and from the start it was evident that the RAOC
were much sharper and quicker to the ball. The forwards
soon established domination in all phases and maintained it
throughout The Fernyhough Trophy was retained for a second
year.
RAOC V RCT Won 26-7. The game was played with a
very strong wind blowing straight down the pitch. As a result
it was a game of two distinct halves. RCT, playing with the
wind established a seven four lead at half time. The RAOC
got on top in the second half but never dominated and did not
play to their full potential. The Lillico Cup was again retained.
RMAS V RAOC Lost 27-7. The Corps side was well
beaten by a faster, fitter and younger side. It was a very dis-
appointing performance. The conditions were ideal for fast
running rugby and that is what Sandhurst played. The Corps
was beaten by superior pace to the breakdown of play.
RAOC V R SIGS Lost 19-14. The RAOC has not played
the Royal Signals for many years. Again regrettably Army
commitments weakened the Corps side. It was a very scrappy
match with neither side dominating play. There were chances
for both sides to win but regrettably the RAOC did not take
theirs.
RMCS V RAOC Lost 16-10. The fixture was the first for
at least ten years. It was a very close fought game with hosts of
fast open running by both sides. In the end an interception
try made all the difference. Long periods of pressure by the
RAOC could not be converted into points on the board.
CORPS TOUR 10/15 APRIL "83. The tour based at 9 Ord-
nance Battalion at Devizes was used as a run up to the Palestine
Cup match against the REME. Army and Combined Services
commitments reduced the availability of players. Results were:
(a) V Wiltshire Rakers, won twenty four nil; (b) V Salisbury,
lost thirty three four; (c) V Wimborne, won thirty thirteen.
REME V RAOC Lost 24-0. Conditions were good al-
though there was a slight drizzle. The RAOC were outplayed
in the forwards and unable to retain possession of the ball in
any phase of play. The Corps was well beaten by a superior
side. After three years retention the Palestine Cup is now in
the hands of the REME.
The season playing record is:—Played twelve, won six, lost
six, points for two hundred and three, points against one hundred
and seventy one.
