Ord 1 to Colonel Paul Camilleri, who we welcome and con-
gratulate on his promotion.
ORD 2. The 29th of April marked the end of an era for Ord 2
when we said ' farewell' to Colonel Alan Newcombe on posting
to Headquarters BAOR. He began his tour of duty way back
in the early part of 1977 with a brief spell as ADOS Ord 2
in First Avenue House, London; his appointment as GSOl(W)
Petroleum Ord 2d quickly followed and he was among the very
first to set foot in Andover when LE(A) was formed; finally,
April 1980 saw him appointed Colonel Ord 2. We all wish
him and his wife Pamela a most enjoyable tour in BAOR.
As one person departs another arrives and it is with great
pleasure that we say ' welcome' to Colonel Donald O'Hare as
Head of Branch; we trust his stay in Ord 2 will be a happy one.

PRIDE and place in these notes must
go to Sergeant Trevor Allison. Major
General Law New presented him with
the British Empire Medal in recog-
nition of his efforts during his tour.
The next day Trevor was on such a
' high' he accidentally passed his BFT.
It should be noted by other sections
of this establishment that all
our eligible clerks passed the 1 BIT.
Directorate of Land Service Ammunition
MAJOR GENERAL WHALLEY, the DGOS, recently came for
an initial visit, so everyone buzzed around trying to ensure that
they justified their existence. As usual this was ably done and at
lunchtime DGOS was invited to the Sergeants Mess to enjoy
their hospitality. At the Mess DGOS presented the BEM to
Sergeant Dave Harvey in recognition of his work on Op
Corporate. Dave's family was also present and DGOS presented
a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Harvey on behalf of the Mess.
Mrs Pauline Knight, our Ladies Keep Fit Leader, has been
enjoying (if that is the right word) a course to better instruct the
ladies in how to maintain their sylph-like figures. Pauline's
husband, John, deciding that the fitness campaign also applies to
him, has so far shed seventeen pounds in weight. A case of a
family together gets fit together.
Although it is some time yet until the Director leaves us,
his programme is very congested with visits, meetings etc. The
Sergeants Mess, who were dining out WOl Jim Lewis, found
out that the Director was here on that date and so formally
invited him for the same purpose. The other guests, were Major
Derek Hellings, an ex-AT, and Major Gil Guthrie in his role
as Supervising Officer. The after dinner speeches were well
received, the Director abdicating the guest's reply and detailing
Jim to do the honours.
Major General Law N e w presents the British Empire Medal to
Sergeant Trevor Allison.
There has been a lot of movement since the last notes.
Desks, people and even walls have moved. The Directorate
has reorganised and at last the dust is beginning to settle.
It is to be wished that the Staff Assistant would, this able gentle-
man stirs and the work increases. Bob Callan has arrived.
Sergeant Carol Aland, one L, has departed to AG Section, Tim
Graham moved sidewards to take over her job. Staff Sergeant
lohn Flannagan has grabbed the reins in OR 23 and is so classy
he took over from a W02 (Gunner). Les Arnold has gone and
it can be reported that he passed his cigarettes round and he
even bought drinks. We wish you well.
It will be of interest to ex-inmates of OR that Mrs Jean
Leonard no longer runs Inter. Trevor only thought he did it.
After fourteen years in OR Jean has retired and will be missed
not only for her expertise but for her jovial? personality.
Again we wish her well.
It is not intended that these notes ramble on as we want
to leave space for other people to tell us who passed their
driving test and other such interesting things. Let us hear
from you all.
Headquarters Director General of Ordnance Services
ORD 1. There are no general branch activities to report this
month but we must record the departure of Colonel Mike Owen
to AFCENT after handing over the appointment of Colonel

Major General Whalley and Brigadier Smith with Sergeant Dave
Harvey and family after presentation of the British Empire M e d a l .
