With the arrival of the sunny weather (through the rain),
the team has started fishing, however as \vc arc short of fishing
tackle meat hooks have been used, the only bite so far has
been from Corporal Wardmcn.
Finally congratulations this month to Corporal Jim Lillcy
and his wife Angela, on the birth of their first daughter Sarah,
NO. 3 SECTION. It is with deep regret that we have to say
an early goodbye to Captain Graeme Morrison, an excellent
volleyball player he made a big impression on the court and
on the walls around it. We wish him success when he returns
to the Province. In his place we welcome Captain Ian Biddlc.
Among his first action was ordering the re-decoration of the
section rest room for the Brigadiers visit.
As in the rest of the Province, jobs arc a rarity, and all the
ones which do turn up then go to the old Aughnacloy team,
We all think that Staff Sergeant Maxwell has a direct link with
the opposition.
We say welcome to Corporal Stubbs, Marine Thorburn our
new escort fresh from the Falklands and goodbye to Marine
McGregor who has returned to the UK for driver training.
Late entry Marine Carter was sighted leaping from the
ATO building roof, demonstrating his Ninja jumping socks.
Headquarters UKLF
GA SUPPLY. A very warm welcome back
to the fold to Major Bill Overton from the
sick list. Bill just missed Exercise Wintex,
when a full team, headed by DACOS, went
to another place for two full weeks of twelve
hour back to back shift working. After-
wards the Spring sunshine outshone even
the exercise play. The full time players,
in addition to Colonel Malcolm Parry-
Davies, were Major Roger Hanington,
Captain John Sustins, Captain Bob Manners
and SSM Dave Marsh, (UKLF ' B ' Vehicle Managers), Lieu-
tenant Colonel Roy Cobb (Retd) and SQMS Jack Desfontaines.
Major Reg Frisby played well into the second half but had to
take an early bath and was substituted by Lieutenant Colonel
Peter Lawrence. Major Bob Price hid himself in Ops; Corporal
Chris Strange (congratulations upon the second tape), not only
operated the computer but repaired it as well! A pity he couldn't
help our R Signals friends who, from an exercise play com-
munications break, elevated matters to a NODUF break for
almost twenty four hours—and then attributed it to a gross
overload of messages . . . Many good points came out of this
exercise, as we feel sure our player friends in the Districts and
at Thatcham would testify, particularly for those whose baptism
of Wintex this was.
The UKLF Pools conference enjoyed the hospitality of
Regional Depot Thatcham, by courtesy of Lieutenant Colonel
John Evans. Trilingual correspondence is now the vogue. An-
other singular event is the imminent handover of command of
Regional Depot Hereford from Major Bruce Boulton, Brunei
bound and copper-bottomed, to Major Stuart Hodges. Perhaps
Major Eric Foster now looks out for the postman in some
trepidation? The Corps face in Gl, Major Barry Aitken, has
left to do some real soldiering, forming up a new unit in North
East District. Happily, another Corpsman, Major Lance Burr,
has filled the chair, we-e-11, sort of; five minutes or so after
taking over found him airborne to BATUS! Another loss, but
the gain of Ord 1 in LE(A), was Major Frank Steer; MACC/
MACM will never be the same now that Frank the Fearless has
left. One final change, the retirement of our active Chief Clerk,
SQMS ' Frere Jacques ' Desfontaines who has been replaced by
Staff Sergeant Steve Humphrey. Thank you and good fortune,
and welcome, respectively, to all.
Those who carefully watched the London Marathon may
have seen, (if they were eagle-eyed), the handsome profile of
Major Roger Forrest, who completed the distance in a most
creditable three hours nineteen minutes. What could not be
heard were the cries of " Ram Ram," (which I am assured is a
warrior's greeting), exchanged between Roger and the team of
Gurkhas which he passed. All in all good preparation for his
posting to Northern Ireland.
News of our ' globe-joggers' is that our genial SFSO, Frank
Booth, is visiting Belize and that a picture postcard of beautiful
Bermuda has been received from the DACOS, sent during an
' enforced stop-over' whilst sailing. "
and as I said to the
Governor . . . . " What with snow tans, sun tans and a diet of
yams the workers look a whiter shade of pale.
Headquarters United
Kingdom Land Forces, Major
Roger
Forrest RAOC ( l e f t ) , and Major Christopher Crccn RCT, were
supported in their efforts to raise sponsorship for the Odstock
Hospital and the Salisbury Hospice Care Trust when they ran
in the London Marathon by Miss Vivien Trcvctt, a clerical officer
at the Headquarters.

N . Farewell visits for General Hicks, included
^ H ^ M M V
one of his favourite units, the OSU at
^^^^^B^^T
Burscough. During his tour in North West
^^^^|tr
District he has been unwavering in his sup-

port, for the OSU, and often sung the

praises of the units hard working staff.
Major Gordon managed a week or so
on leave, as an ardent bird watcher, he has quickly managed to
join various branches of the bird watchers (feathered variety!)
society. Leave must be catching, as Colonel Danger has also
managed a week ' down south.'
The DFA Mr Lampitt has also been absent on various
courses and during such periods we more than welcome the
cover provided by Mr R. W. Bygrave from the AFB Longtown.
We wish Major Bolt, the OC of the Stores Section at 42
Command Workshop a speedy return to work after a recent
period of hospitalisation.
South W e s t District
WE HAVE, in the past few days, said farewell
to the Commanding Officer, 9 Ordnance
Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Ted Champion,
who has been posted to London District as
the Commander Supply. We wish Colonel
Ted well in his new appointment and reiterate
our invitation to come and see us whenever
he can. To his successor, Lieutenant Colonel
D. M. Braithwaite, we extend our best wishes
for a successful tour.
We also bade farewell on retirement to
Major Ivor Thomas who was our S02 Supply (Combat). How-
ever, as he has now donned his civvy suit as an R03 in G3
(O and D) in this Headquarters we still see him daily. How-
ever, he has been instructed by our ROs, Jim Duncan and Bill
Griffin that his leather patches are not to be worn until he has
at least cleared his probation.
Another pleasant occasion was the rebadging of Corporal
Smith ex RPC. He is now a Staff Clerk in this Headquarters
in G3 (O and D). We welcome him into the Corps and wish
him a happy tour in the Headquarters.
Otherwise, save for the winds and rain, South West Dis-
trict is at peace, with our officers and soldiers either looking
forward to another Exercise or holidays in Spain.
