Transcription The ski-ing exercise in Bavaria went well although Lance
Corporal Neil Eden failed to 'kill off' Private Lefty Lethbridge
despite many attempts.
' T ' Battery section consisting of Privates Collins and
Stout had a quick exercise in sunny Otterbum after the Easter
block leave and came back complaining about trench foot and
things.
Sergeant Goodficld having just arrived from BAOR is now
girding his loins along with Lance Corporal Taylor and Privates
Harvey and Holmes in preparation for another four month
visit to the Falklands.
Lance Corporals Ainsworth and Eden are spending most
of the time on the airfield attending a parascending course run
by Captain McGhic.
Since the last entry arrivals and departures have been
numerous; Sergeant Wrightson has departed to join Corporal
McGuirc in Dulmen. Private McManus has gone to Wulfen.
Corporal Wilmot is by now sunning in Oman. Private Selvey
is off learning to bake and victual in preparation for-a trip to
the Falklands. The only recent arrivals have been Sergeant
Cumming for his last six months service and Private Stout.
Western District
HEADQUARTERS
A quiet month as we approach the end
of the annual inspection programme to the
relief of all concerned. S02 Sup (Mat)
Major Steve Goldring has become very
amiable these days, it must be the start
of the cricket season!
The under fifties, we do have a few,
puffed their way through the BFTs. This
feat was achieved by surreptitious training by some coupled
with Comd Sup being a dark horse on his first run.
We have lost our ROWO, W02 Brian Scott on an
emergency tour with BFFI. His stand-in is WOl Pat Kelly
who arrived from Berlin for his last six months in the service.
Staff Sergeant Dick Hill has finally left for civilian life with
our best wishes for the future.
REGIONAL DEPOT HEREFORD
MAJOR STUART HODGE has arrived to take over the Depot
from Major Bruce Boulton who will shortly be off on an exotic
posting. Our new OC is no stranger to rural Hereford and we
hope he has an enjoyable stay.
Captain Charlie Davenport was a member of a Corps
team in a golf match against RA. Although in trouble at the
tenth hole our intrepid OIC Supplies made a recovery and
emerged the winner.
Our congratulations go to the many industrial depot
employees who have been successful on recent promotion boards.
3 2 Ordnance Company
ONCE again the Company has returned
from a successful Brigade Logex at Thet-
ford where all ranks distinguished them-
selves by their display of hard work and
determination to achieve the multitude of
tasks set by Brigade. The Company must
have recorded a ' First,' in that one
Subaltern was seen to successfully back
another driving a Rover into a restricted
space—without any untoward screams from the MT Staff
Sergeant! Sadly there is no photographic proof of this rare feat!
Back in barracks the technical heart of the Company rapidly
began to throb with renewed vigour under the expert guidance
of Staff Sergeants Jack Hunter and Alan Carter. Welcome to
Sergeant Bob Cunningham-Norton who has quickly settled in
on the Stores side with Sergeant Steve Lister (when he's not on
leave). As a result the stores park was quite ready for Lieutenant
Colonel Hurles to visit.
The unit recently held an all ranks games evening organised
by StatT Sergeants Jack Hunter and Jim Robinson. The Privates
won the night's events after a well fought battle despite the
fact they had less numbers in their team than anyone else; the
success of the whole evening has led to a probable re-match in
the near future when the Otlicers and SNCOs will try to regain
their form.
The CQMS department is grappling with a new GI098 and
appears to be winning! This may of course be a mere illusion
or wishful thinking, however it looks impressive and with
PRE coming up Staff Sergeant Corless and his merry crew are
kept extremely busy. It was with deep regret the unit- bid
farewell to W02 Proudlove on his resettlement course, his
friendly advice and general humour will be sorely missed.
The usual ' ins' and ' outs' of postings have continued
with the unit now approaching full manning thanks to the
return of the Falklands detachment and the help of M and RO.
Promotions have continued to be published and congratulations
go to all those who are now substantive, like the sands of the
sea they are too numerous to identify individually in these
notes.
When the MV Baltic Ferry sailed into Felixstowe, having
returned from the Falkland Islands, our ex-Falkland Islands
detachment plus a few other personnel from the Company were
there to welcome her home. The photograph on page 37 for
our Falklands friends, shows the MV Baltic Ferry about to dock
in Felixstowe. Needless to say there was a reception held on her
behalf and a good time was had by all.
Commando Ordnance Squadron
PROGRESS in the Squadron is taking
many forms. Few sufferers of vertigo
would feel at ease in the ' New Look'
Storehouse. WOl Hughes' efforts to ex-
pand the stores holdings upwards with his
newly ' Proffed' racking have resulted in
a veritable display of the art of efficient
storage. Mountain and arctic ' warfare
equipment in the TQMS Store would appear accessible only to
Spider Man as arctic sleeping mats hang menacingly in the
rafters.
After the post-Norway and Easter block leave all hands are
busy ' Spring Cleaning' however certain individuals seem deter-
mined not to stay in Plymouth too long: Question: Where is
everybody. Answer: Brunei*, Belize*, Falklands*, The Alps*,
The Scilly Isles*.
*Delete as necessary.
Now for name dropping. Let us congratulate Sergeant
Walker and Private Cooney on their recent marriages. Secondly
we welcome Corporal StaJlard, Lance Corporal Johnson and
Marines Dalgarno, Duggins and Thompson on joining the
Squadron. Finally we must also welcome back Marine Watt,
recovering from his wounds received during Op Corporate
and a shiny new addition to the Squadron; now fully recovered
from wounds received during Op King's Head.
Central Ordnance Depot Bicester
PLANNING BRANCH. Congratulations
to Ron Harrell on his promotion to WOl
(SSM). It is rumoured that he now com-
plains about having to pay more income
tax!
W02
(SQMS) Colin
Dcwsbury
_... < **5**" recently returned from a BAOR exercise
is now able to understand a metric stop-
watch !
W02 (SQMS) John Fielder is still
entrenched in Traffic Branch.
Getting
paid for the higher rank, why should he
complain?
Last but not least we welcome into the fold W02 (SQMS)
Wilf Walton who has joined us from sunny Cyprus, and Peter
Fcnn EO who has returned after thirteen years absence.
Peter is rekindling interest in cricket by entering a Bicester
Garrison XI in the MOD National Competition 'Athsocia' Cup.
I SUB-DEPOT. Our share of casual labourers will go soon, at
the end of their extended six months contract. It remains to
be seen if we see them again in the new Financial Year, but
they have performed good work cleaning up both inside and
outside our storehouses. Recent civilian promotions have resulted
in some moving about. We welcome Messrs Mole, Reynolds
and Scott: Mrs King and Miss Smith and farewell Messrs
Dudficld and Barton as well as Miss Shcrratt.
16 BATTALION
HEADQUARTERS
COMPANY.
Caught short again ! Doesn't
a month pass quickly when you're enjoying yourself?
One of our lads, Private Jolly Jolliffe has to take this month's
medal for sheer guts in the face of insurmountable odds. At a
' Beef Dripping Sandwich Consumption ' competition organised
