Area.
The Unit squash team have just completed a very successful
season. Ably led by RSM Patchitt the team won the RAOC
(BAOR) Unit Championships, the Munster Garrison Champion-
ships and the Osnabruck Garrison Championships.
RSM
Patchitt also won the RAOC (BAOR) Individual Championships.
The photograph shows the team with their collection of
trophies. The players are, from left to right: Major Ramsden,
WOl Myers, RSM Patchitt, Sergeants Davison and Batcman.
Photo Corporal Dunn.
The unit squash team.
everyone is busily preparing for Summer Camp at Arlon.
Sergeant John Baillic now has his leg out of plaster and
refuses to do anymore running except the bar and certainly no
further than the ten litres! Congrats to Privates Andy Hcndy
and Charlie Brown who arc now upgraded to B2 Vch Specs.
MT has still got our stalwart Private Blazicr on the recovery
side of the house ensuring our backlogs arc kept to a minimum;
Private Taff Docl is our fittest member. Not forgetting our lads
Lance Corporals Frank Gregory, Paddy Rhodes, Privates Brum
Sheldon and TafT Watkins to whom I might add arc not yet up to
the designed standard in coffee making but time will tell. We
as a section receive many visits from our Padre. We arc not
sure if it's for the coffee or to offer spiritual guidance, we don't
mind, it lakes two to make a bargain.
Orderly Room spring cleaning goes on apace. Out goes
Major David Braithwaite to take up his new appointment in the
rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Congratulations and best wishes
for the future. Out too goes Captain Fred Stephenson our
Admin Officer to take up his appointment as Supervising Officer
at Headquarters 1 (BR) Corps and W02 (CSM) Dwight Gumbs
to Dulmen on promotion to RSM—again congratulations. In
comes Major Charles Baylcy, Captain Mike Lacis and W02 Tug
Wilson we wish them all success and happiness in their tour here
—we do, honest! Two upgradings arc worth a mention, Lance
Corporals Shanks and Spinks have been granted their B2 in
coffee-making and arc now ' on appointment' to the OC.
Captain Tim Tayler is our Planning Officer, Staff Sergeant
John Power claims to be the Chief Clerk and Sergeant Taff
Lovejoy who only comes in to count things and go back home
again. Finally it is time we mentioned the real workers behind
the scenes, Frau Rita Baker whom everybody is friends with—
they have to be if they want any leave and Mrs Sheena Forder
who, without her typing skills, would have the Chief Clerk tear-
ing out his otherwise grey hair!
Forward Vehicle Depot Recklinghausen
IT is a long time since this unit told other readers about the
personalities who ' work' here. So, for a change we are letting
the departments discuss themselves.
Within the R and I Section we have Sergeant Pete Gee
ably assisted by Corporal Steve Shuck and Private Pitfield. We
were recently reinforced with the arrival of our very own
veteran combat soldier Private Terry Pitcher who has just
returned from the Falklands. Having introduced ourselves we
could explain where we are but that's a trade secret known
only to favoured customers and computer operators.
Now on to Maintenance where ' Backlog' section things
are still ticking over at a rapid rate of knots, and all noses are
to the grindstone. Headed by Sergeant Alan Stephens backed by
his trusty 2IC Corporal Ginge Smith, In the Servicing area
we have Lance Corporal Bishop. Privates Webber, Kibble and
Tonnard make up the team in the ' pits.' Working in Spray
Bay we have Privates Vasquez and Murphy while Privates
McCormack and Downey are hard at work in the Tyre Bay. In
the Wash Point and Anti-Freeze Point we have Privates Rose
and Streets respectively. Lastly a mention must go to Lance
Corporal Parkin who at this moment is trying to pass his RPC2
Course.
Next is Storage. We welcome to Storage this month Corporal
Joe Forder, Lance Corporal Steve Daniels and straight from the
factory Privates Bulmer and Vann. On the sporting front
Lance Corporal George Paddock, Privates Naughton and
Harding have been giving their best to the football team. Private
Blackburn is suffering withdrawal symptoms from ski-ing and
Private Storey is complaining that all he ever seems to do is
work. The month ended with our disaster exercise Drastic
Measure in which Staff Sergeant Geoff Williams and Lance
Corporal Steve Daniels were incapacitated with severe burns
which left Lance Corporal George Paddock running the show.
Things are busy as normal in the VCC. The computer is
now on line. Well sometimes. We say welcome to Lance
Corporal Scouse Powell and goodbye to Sergeant Larry Linfitt.
Lastly we congratulate Corporal John Elliott on promotion.
Liaison is hard at work as usual keeping the depots back-
log moving from one department to another. Our new slave
master is Staff Sergeant Allen and his two over-seers are
Corporals Max Bonsu and Nick Carter. Well done Private
Slattery on passing his HGV1 test also showing that liaison can
do more than drive well, Private Chippy Carpenter came first in
the Braithwaite Bunker Bash.
Kit Stores is still functioning as smoothly as ever though
