Changes have taken place amongst our Civilian Staff with former Storeman Trevor Millan, having learned to write and becoming a trainee Clerk C3. While Graham Simpson having served his apprenticeship as Handyman becomes a C3 Store- man. Meanwhile Storeman Edgar Fricke is fast learning the skills of darts while Peter Graham is trying hard to become another Barbara Woodhouse. Glamour is added to our Section in the forms of Miss Jennie Baird, Mrs Jan Smith and Frau Suzy Trapp. On the physical front all Unit Military members (six) en- joy! regular lunch time runs. Sergeant Mac McDonald has at least found someone to beat him over the line. Rumour has it that the new ASM Vick Gunn found the fast forward switch on his cassette. We welcome Sergeant Harrison and family, but alas say farewell to Sergeant Mac McDonald and family on posting to Catterick. We also say farewell to Robert Palliparambil and wish him and his family all the best for the future in India. 4 Ordnance Battalion I BATTALION HEADQUARTERS RUGBY has been in prominence recently with the CO and Major Hardcastle being almost permanently involved with the organisation of Divisional matches and Army Finals. Since the boundary changes 4 Division has taken on the running of all BAOR and Army Rugby Finals in BAOR. » This gives the Chairman and Secretary at least seven major finals to organise each year. It's a good job they both like the game! We have said a temporary goodbye to Lance Corporal Briddon who has gone to the Falklands for his holidays. He hasn't gone completely as he's left his heart with W/Private Home who works for Headquarters Maint. No doubt when he is joined next week by. Staff Sergeant Bob Sacre he will be given a complete update on the situation. ^^M^^^ ^^H^^^k ^ m ^ ^ ^ A • M M ^ H ^^^^^^^V ^^^^^^V ^ ^ • ^ 41 ORDNANCE COMPANY SINCE our last contribution to these pages the Company has been away on the annual ' pilgrimage' to Vogelsang Camp, on the Belgian border, where we spent two arduous weeks sharpen- ing up on military skills, in the form of an inter-platoon com- petition. The eventual winners, by a narrow margin, were 2 Platoon commanded by Second Lieutenant Chris Gooderham! On our return from Vogelsang we immediately launched into preparing for the ARU inspection, which was conducted this year by Commander Herford Garrison. On completion of the formal inspection Commander Her- ford Garrison presented Sergeant Tapper with the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, and a twenty five years service certificate to Frau Joseffa Prickett, both of whom deserve our warmest congratulations. Our good wishes and thanks go to all those who have left us; and a very warm welcome is extended to the new members of the unit and their families. A special note of congratulations must go to Staff Sergeant and Mrs Marley upon the birth of a beautiful baby daughter. Finally, to all members of our Company currently on temporary duty in the South Atlantic, we send our best wishes. 42 ORDNANCE COMPANY THE past weeks have seen the Company complete the Unit move to Minden and settle into St George's Barracks. The handover of accommodation in Soest went very well and credit must go to the CQMS, Staff Sergeant Pete Learmonth, and his team of Sergeant Ray Crooks, Corporal Dusty Miller (now on his way to Donnington), Lance Corporals Dicky Henderson and Scouse Houghton and Private Steve Clancy. Thanks must also go to ASU Werl for being so helpful with all of the accommodation stores problems. Second Lieutenant Nigel Astley together with Sergeant Spud Murphy are now in the throes of preparing for Exercise Road Runner. The aim is to train new members of the unit in packet drills—with a bit of regimental training thrown in by CSM Bill Rice. MTO, Second Lieutenant Duncan Gibbons is now back in the fold after attending a MTO's Course and taking a spot of leave (or was it all leave?). Our popular REME Section: Sergeant Eddie Hurst, Corporal Bill Simpson, Lance Corporal Tim Farr and Craftsman Karl Watson continue to support all unit activities, as do our ACC members: Sergeant Dave Woolacott, Lance Corporal Mick Wisbey and Private Nigel Ellis. PC and A have survived the unit move without too many problems. Everyone seems to have settled in and are at home. Lance Corporal Steve Walton and Private Bill Greer accompanied the Scots DG on a recent exercise whilst Lance Corporal Sid Sutton and Private Phil Puddy went to Deepcut for a COFFER Course. Private Taff Hewett is currently on a parachuting course at Sennelager with Private Paul Duncalf as company. Sergeant Ken O'NeiT is now settled in as NCO IC Accounts. Staff Sergeant Les Livesey is now back in R and I with Sergeant Derek Howarth (soon off to the Falklands). Lance Corporal Taff Clarke and Private Dave Lowres. Changes in the CQMS Department too. Corporal Vic Arrowsmith has taken over accommodation stores and works service responsibilities and our latest civilian recruit, Mr Roy Hall (ex-RAOC) has taken on the Miscellaneous Account. Sergeant Graham Ford has arrived to take over the Training Office. The Orderly Room have now said farewell to Corporal Ken Higgins and welcomed Private Louis Powell. Corporal Aird arrives shortly from Headquarters UKLF. On the sporting front, the AO, Captain David Homewood and CSM Bill Rice have tried to get the football team organised. Corporals Roger Ball and Alex Raeburn, Lance Corporals Steve Walton, Tim Farr and Scouse Houghton and Privates Jock Kelly ,our volatile captain), Louis Powell, Roger Stoker, Bob Wiley, Terry Boyle, Jimmy Glover, Kev Donnelly, Shaun Gilman (our volatile AIPT), Alan Petty, Tony Melvin and Nick Mason make up the nucleus of the team. The AO plays, but can't get his place back at the moment! The CSM occasionally lends his boots out! The team has been playing as many fixtures as possible in order to 'get it' together! The 2IC, Captain Max Burnett has gone to Zimbabwe to get married—Carlsberg shares will no doubt drop in value as a result! Congratulations to Lance Corporal Dicky Henderson and Elvira on the birth of Kevin. Posted into the Company are Sergeant Graham Ford, Corporal Alec Raeburn, Lance Corporal Tim Farr, Privates Roger Stoker. Jimmy Glover and Lewis Powell. Farewells are extended to Corporals Tiffy Turner, Ken Higgins, Dusty Miller and Tony Hughes. 43 ORDNANCE COMPANY THERE has been a considerable amount of too-ing and not a lot of fro-ing since the last entry. Too-ing we have had Staff Sergeant Dave Callaway, Sergeant Alan Gray, Corporals George McKendrick, Chris Gault, James Fallon, Tony Welland, Lance Corporals Jock Strang, Paul Mehew, Sid Holder, Pete Sharman, Privates George Manito, Paul Foulds, Taff Morris, Phil Mock and Armstrong. On the fro-ing side we have lost Sergeant Phil Avery to the Pet Centre at West Moors. We would like to wish Julia and Phil all the best on their new tour. (Hope the dogs! are alright.) Recently returned from their holiday home in the Falklands are Sergeant Tommy Rood and Lance Corporal Steve Ayres. The sun-tan with which they came back has led to the belief Photo Tony Martyn. Sergeant John Mortimer receives his Long Service and Conduct Medal. Cood |
