Gibson failed to find his sea legs and as a consequence didn't enjoy the crossing. Private Bradford found his sea legs when he landed on them after falling down a flight of stairs. To find out more about the amazing exploits of Lance Platoon watch this space for Captain Law's testimony of what really happened! On the sporting side 52 Company's new green football strip made its debut in the inter-company football competition and helped the company to a three nil second half performance against 53 Company. Unfortunately, since we lost the first half six nil. the final result of the match isn't worth mentioning —so we won't mention it. Pardoned this month is Corporal Walker who leaves on pro- motion to RA Ranges, Hebrides. We wish you well in your future career. Sentenced are Corporal Akeroyd and Private Skirton. Welcome to 52 Company. 53 ORDNANCE COMPANY COKAYNE. McAteer. Pookraj. Powell, Boden. Mclntyre. Stubbs, Sneddon and Gill. Not household names yet, but soon to be famous as their latest smash hit from RCO studios in Sennywood is released. Another Sci-fi blockbuster ' EB,' the story of nine men and their machines who appeared from out of a little shed in the woods and drove up and down with such perfection that the world was stunned. Timed and tested by men in green pullovers, observed from every angle, briefed and chastened, yet all they wanted to do was to ' go home,' back to their own little pits in their own little shed where peace and tranquillity prevailed. Such was life in the MHE section as frantic efforts took place to prepare a drive past of nine Eager Beavers which com- pleted the farewell celebrations for Brigadier Skinner, Com- mander Supply 1 (BR) Corps. The day started with a speed march competition which resulted in a draw for first place between SATO/Control team; Sergeant O'Brien, Privates McMahon, Bebbington, Morris and Lowrie, and Depot 90 'A' team; Corporal Halliwell, Privates Watson, Williams. Smith 590 and Wood. This event coincided with a superb breakfast in the field a la Lance Corporal Milligan ACC for the Brigadier who greeted most of our senior ranks as they returned from the Sergeants Mess dinner night (the night before!). We wish Brigadier and Mrs Skinner all good fortune for the future. Corporals Crouch and Cone have just achieved substantive promotion to that rank. Congratulations to them. Congratula- tions also to our football team who recently defeated 52 Ordnance six goals to three in the Patterson Trophy. The goal-scorers were: Lance Corporals Peters, Holt (2), Brocki and Smith 939. All our best wishes go to Lance Corporal and Mrs Lister on the birth of their son. We welcome Lieutenant Crosby, Privates Morris, Jenkins and Dobson (back from FI) and a belated wel- come to Private Waite. Farewells go to Privates Machen and Cashmore. Au revoir to Corporal McGuinness off to FI to join Lance Corporal Scanlan, Privates Besson, Newband and McGrath to whom we send our best wishes (how about a post- card troops?). 6 Ordnance Battalion HEADQUARTERS COMPANY THIS month was largely taken up with the farewell parade for Brigadier Skinner. Congratulations to Private McGowan who received his Falklands medal from the Brigadier during the parade. Sportswise Headquarters Company teamed with 64 Ord- nance Company for swimming and football, the former being more successful than the latter, when we were runners-up in the Battalion Championship. The latter saw us lose five two to 62 Ordnance Company—I refer you to 64 Ordnance Company's notes for their views. A new arrival into Headquarters is Sergeant Kilnan from 64 Ordnance Company who is the Provost Sergeant; con- gratulations also on his promotion. Meanwhile we said fare- well to Private Newton and his family who have returned to UK. Private Newton played an important part in setting up our new Documentation office and will be missed by all for his cheerfulness, efficiency and rugby prowess. Congratulations are also in order for our new Pay Sergeant and his wife, Mrs Armstrong who now have a baby daughter. one, although certain people have been heard muttering that no sooner do they get the vehicles ' fixed up ' than the exercise period starts—makes one feel like a Forth Bridge painter. The footballers have had yet another good month, they supplied six of the Battalion side which beat 40 Sp Gp RE five two in the final of the BAOR Minor Units Cup. held recently at Dulmen. Also scores of fifteen one against 31 Ord- nance Company, thereby gaining a place in the quarter finals of the CCRAOC Cup, and fourteen two against 31 Batten- in a local friendly, show just what a formidable task opposing teams have when they come up against the Company. The news we are eagerly awaiting at the moment is that we have beaten 62/63 Ordnance Company in the finals of the DOS Cup. One other sporting event that must be mentioned is the Officers/Senior Ranks v Junior Ranks hockey match where the Junior Ranks were resoundly beaten six two. However, Private Humphries realised just what a potential hockey star he is when he scored ' a brilliant goal in spite of a tough defence ' he reported, in his first ever hockey match too. In a more social atmosphere the Chief Clerk, Sergeant Gray assisted by Lance Corporal Hewson and Private Moore have been playing badminton. The venue being Halle School. our link in the Anglo-German schools link. PC and A is in the throes of a change of leadership; W02 Starkey has arrived to replace W02 Reynolds at the helm. W02 Starkey has quite a job on hand as he will have to absorb in three weeks the knowledge that W02 Reynolds has gained during three tours and eight years with the Company in its many guises. Anyway, we wish W02 Starkey and his wife Sandra a pleasant stay. The other arrival this month is Private Battye. Congratulations and best wishes to Corporal Rogers and his wife Carol on their marriage and congratulations to Sergeant Ziverts and his wife Brenda on the birth of their son Stephen and also to Private Page and wife Elaine on the birth of their daughter Rebecca Louise. Congratulations to Corporal Cook on completing the ' Hermannslauf' in two hours twenty eight minutes over a thirty five kilometre course of arduous hill running. Also well done to Private Ludden (two hours forty five minues). Lance Corporal Montrose (three hours ten minutes). Lieutenant Le Sueur (three hours fifty minutes) and Captain Parrott (three hours fifty five minutes). 63 ORDNANCE COMPANY THE outstanding events within the unit this month have been a visit to the unit by Brigadier Colley our new Garrison Com- mander to see what makes the unit tick. We must take this opportunity to congratulate Privates John Turner and Alan Smith on a very good run in the Hermannslauf and thank Corporal Hamblin and his team for keeping the three and a half thousand runners refreshed as they ran past the Corps flag. Those readers who know Staff Sergeant Jim Campbell and the problems he has had with his cartilage will be pleased to know that after eventually getting himself into BMH Rinteln for an operation, he spent four days in the hospital and came out with his cartilage still intact! It was only old age creeping into his bones. Our CSM Sergeant Major Jim Finch thought he was still a young man until he decided to play a game of rugby. I don't know what the score was but he got a black eye and a broken bone in his wrist. It would seem his rugby career has been prematurely and swiftly ended. This month we have said farewell to Lance Corporal Brocklehurst, Corporal Goulden and family, Lance Corporal Fielding and family and temporarily we hope, Private Bembnowicz who has gone to the Falklands. Our only new arrival this month has been a son to Mr Andy Harper our POL Pump attendant and his wife Tina. 61 ORDNANCE COMPANY WEEKS of feverish activity culminated in a satisfactory report being given on the annual PRE Inspection, which pleased every- — 33 — REMEMBER THE DEADLINE FOR COPY —28th OF EACH MONTH — WITH THE EDITOR AT DEEPCUT |
