1906 1983 THE ROYAL ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS GAZETTE VOLUME 65 No. 2 PUBLISHED MONTHLY NET CIRCULATION 7,750 JULY 1983 LIEUTENANT S I R THE JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS AND ARMY ORDNANCE SERVICES AND THE OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE RAOC ASSOCIATION THE EDITOR'S P A U L G E N E R A L T R A V E R S IT is with great regret that we record the death of Lieutenant General Sir Paul Travers, the Quarter-Master-General. General Travers was the first service logistic officer to hold this high appointment. He died suddenly on the 10th June 1983, aged fifty-five, and had been Quarter-Master-General only since March last year. He began his service in the ranks of the Parachute Regiment from 1945 to 1947 and was commissioned into the Royal Army Service Corps. General Travers was Director of Administrative Planning (Army) from 1973 to 1975. From 1976 to 1978 he was Deputy Quarter-Master-General, BAOR. He was Vice- Quarter-Master-General from 1979 to 1981 and GOC South East District in 1981-82. He was Knighted in 1981. Last August he became the first member of the Army Board to visit the Falkland Islands after the successful campaign against the Argentine invaders. NOTICES Editor: COLONEL E. RIDGEWAY, OBE (Rctd.). Lieutenant General Sir Paul Travers photographed recently after presenting the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Sergeant Lloyd during a visit to Ordnance Depot Antwerp.
