TRAVERS CLARKE ATHLETICS THE Travers Clarke Athletics Meeting was held in the Alder- shot Military Stadium. It was most fortunate that it was one of the few days over the period with no rain and the conditions were good for the athletics, despite a slight breeze. Although there were no Corps records broken the com- petition was very keen and the standard well up to previous years, nine athletics and seven tug of war teams took part. Jockeying for position in the two thousand metres. The Representative Colonel Commandant, Major General Speller, kindly presented the prizes. The Travers Clarke Team Sports Cup resulted in a dead heat between CAD Kineton and the RAOC Training Centre with sixty five points each. However, CAD Kineton gained the cup because they had five firsts in the team events as opposed to the Training Centre's one. The Track Events Cup was won by the RAOC Training Centre and CAD Kineton won the Field Events Cup. Corporal Henry, CAD Kineton was Victor Ludorum by one point. This was a very creditable performance as he had just returned from Northern Ireland after duty there for three months. Apprentice Corporal Magloire from Chepstow won the Junior Soldiers Cup. The tug-of-war competition was once again hotly con- tested and was most enjoyable for both the teams and the spectators. CVD Ashchurch again showed their superiority in this event and both their teams were winners and runners-up respectively. The Old Soldiers Race was won by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Putt, Commanding Officer of the Apprentices College who showed great style and fitness, in a good win. Grouping round the bend in the fifteen hundred metres. The winning t u g - o f - w a r team get their General Speller. prizes from Major Trying for that extra foot in the long jump. — 48 — |
