Transcription Headquarters Northern Ireland
AS advertised in last months GAZETTE we
have now decided to have our notes
written by a different branch within
Headquarters Northern Ireland each
month.
However before our readers
sample the delights of life within G2
Branch Headquarters Northern Ireland a
word of warning to all in RAOC 2 Inf
Div! The RAOC Lisburn cricket team
is about to take on the might of Ord
Depot Northern Ireland in the first round
of the DGOS Cricket Cup. the winners to play RAOC 2 Inf
Div in round two. We have so far found many potential
players called ' Gary' but very few were 'Sober*! (Get it—
No?—never mind). Watch this space next month for a match
report Now over to G2 Branch.
It had to happen sooner or later I suppose! Comd Sup
has found out just how well the Corps is represented in G2
Branch so I have had to put pen to paper to write this months
GAZETTE notes! So. who have we got? Well on the clerical
side there is the Chief Clerk W02 John Leggett who is
rumoured to be in semi retirement as all he appears to do is
play with his computer. He is assisted by (when his alarm
clock works) Corporal Sam Clegg. it would be unfair to say
that Sam has problems rising in the morning but it has been
noticed that he keeps ' volunteering' to do extra duties! An-
other who must have really upset the Chief is Lance Corporal
Dave Davis who must have thought he had found a way out
by volunteering for the Commandos, . only to find himself
posted to the Ascension Island. We are also lucky (I think) to
have some WRAC support in the shape of Corporal Tad
Thomas who still hasn't figured out the relationship between a
low Confidential and beating the boss at squash and Private
Maureen Tempest. Our latest arrival is also WRAC, straight
from the Depot Private Julie Black whose dad, as it happens
is ex-RSM Black of the Corps.
On the technical side we have Major Rod Jennings and
W02 Tony Pearce. Tony must be a bit of a computer nut
as he and the Chief Clerk are often seen together muttering
about ' Dragons * and ' have you seen my peripherals?'
To leave the Branch. I could not let this month go by
without mentioning any names, but who was the ' Super
Clerk ' who on investigating the report of a missing inside loo
handle, only locked himself in! Congratulations also go to the
Super Clerk whose name I wouldn't mention earlier but WOl
John Russell recently got himself married. We're not sure if his
system has adapted yet after all those years of Mess life.

DEPOT HEADQUARTERS
AND PC AND A.
Frantic
preparations are now taking place for the Annual Training
Camp to be held in the Isle-of-Man. Between preparations the
Unit Cricket Team managed to squeeze in a couple of friendly
matches against a local civilian side in readiness for the league
and cup competitions. The first match was lost. The return
match was lost. Anyone want to know the details? Sorry no
time for trivia. Needless to say we look forward to our first
match in the cup with some trepidation and no little fear.
We have said farewell to what we thought was a permanent
fixture in the Depot, W02 (CSM) Tug Wilson. We wish him
and his family a happy tour in Recklinghausen. In his place
we welcome W02 Dave Thomas and family.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Graham Calderwood
on his recent marriage to Sandy and to Lance Corporal Bob
Holmes and his wife Wendy on the birth of their first child, a
daughter.
Finally we congratulate the following on their
selection for promotion: Staff Sergeant Ralph Fella, Sergeants
Tony Johnson and Graham Seymour.
VEHICLE SUB-DEPOT. Life has been settling down, that was
until our new 2IC W02 SQMS Keith Wick arrived. His first
task was to demolish one of the walls in the Sergeants Mess
Accommodation to construct a penthouse suite. His predecessor
W02 John Adamson has been hastily nailing boxes and bidding
farewells on his departure to Moenchengladbach and promotion.
It's been a month for, biting the dust/wedding bells, our
congratulations going to Sergeant Dennis Head on his marriage
to Cherry and Lance Corporal Stevie Day to Mary. All the
best to both of them.
Our resident Supply Specialist Private John Kirkland still
gets in a bit of work between courses, his latest conquest being
his Bl, well done John.
Presentation of the Imperial Service Medal to Mr L. Bradley.
From left to right: Lieutenant Colonel W c a t h c r b u r n , Miss
Bradley, M r Louis Bradley, Mrs Bradley and Captain T h w a i t e .
On the sporting front, Lance Corporal Keith Barrett
represented the Corps at football in UK and gave a creditable
performance, or so he tells us!
Corporal Ginge Stuthridge is away on his sailing instructors
course, and on his return will no doubt be converting us less
nautical numbers of the Unit to a life on the Ocean Wave.
Our best wishes on a speedy recovery go to Lance Corporal
Dave Clapton after yet another operation on his digit.
Not forgetting our man at the helm Captain Ron (Negus)
Chisholm, who's now dealing in the boat trade 'Going for a
Yacht'?
Finally a hearty welcome goes to Corporal Bill Macgregor
on his arrival to the land of the Guinness for a quick six month
detachment from ODA.
SUPPLY SUB-DEPOT.
Once again a Medal Presentation has
been the main event of recent weeks. Louis Bradley BEM.
our recently retired SOG ' D,' was presented with the Imperial
Service Medal by the Commanding Officer. Congratulations
once again Louis on yet another fine achievement. On the
postings side Lance Corporal Scouse Jones has arrived tanned
and fit from UNFICYP, and Corporal Adrian McDonagh is
busy packing boxes and cooing over his new car (when it's not
in dock!) pending his posting to BAOR.
The wives' clubs of Kinnegar Logistic Base and RAOC
Headquarters Northern Ireland visited the Wardroom Club
recently for a Meat Demonstration conducted by the Butchers
of the unit, namely WOl Eric Hunter the Depot Supt, Staff
Sergeant Lenny Loughran the Master Butcher and Lance Corporal
Dave Longman Butchery 2IC. Sergeant Duggie Hill was also
on hand to introduce the ladies to the delights of ten man and
twenty four hour packs of compo, superbly attired in his brown
storemans livery he looked for all the world like Ronnie
Barker! Still, we are open all hours!
EOD Branch and Headquarters 321 EOD Company
OFFICIALLY summer has arrived in
Lisburn, however we forgot to inform
the weather of this fact
During the lapses in flooding and
time off for building of the EOD Ark,
life has gone on without much excite-
ment
One moment of high activity was
the farewell visit of the VCGS, Lieu-
tenant General Sir Thomas Morony.
Two other ripples in the mill pond
of EOD life has been the marriage of the CQMS's clerk, Sergeant
Alan Armstrong to Miss Irene Todd, we wish them both good
luck. Also we say goodbye to Lance Corporal Roberts who
leaves us for Devizes, after a year as the Officer Commanding's
driver.
