On the posting and promotion front congratulations to Corporal and Mrs Cheetham on their forthcoming tour in Brunei. We have lost Lance Corporal Andy Pollock to 622 Squadron AAC SOEST, Corporal Gardiner to 3 Fit at Top- cliffe and Corporal Peter Hey to AFCENT—all on promotion. Their reliefs Corporals Cureton and Fos'.er are already well established as unit personalities in the fitness and health and strength field. Our congratu'atibns to Staff Sergeant and Mrs Doody on the safe arrival of their son Matthew in Andover via Winchester. The annual military training exercise cannot take place in Cyprus again this year so we hope Corporal McDowall late of 3 MSD and now with UNFICYP on promotion, is not too upset. Our civilian staff has been reinforced in no small way with the arrival of Mr Bernard Collins late RTR Para Squadron Tid- worth. Mrs Carol Compton and Mrs Shirley Cowall wife of W02 Bill Cowall who served twenty two years with the Corps as a Staff Clerk. Finally best wishes to Miss Stevie Saint who leaves for Ludgershall on promotion to Clerical Officer. Also to Private Dudley Reid on his forthcoming Commando Selection course. Stop Press. Lance Corporal Crews last seen in the Chatham MRS is still conscious and hopes to be back at duty in Alder- grove before the VDUs are installed. As this article is being written Sergeant Dave Belshaw late 11 Ordnance Company Soltau walked in the OCs office—both having served together before at Junior Leaders Blackdown in 1958, Hong Kong in 1962 and Saltau in 1980. Flash Back by Simray—(Major Jack Thompson) Having served three happy years with the Junior Leaders from 1957—60 it is most heartening to see how well most of that vintage have matured. Characters that spring to mind who have earned commissioned rank and whose service to the Corps at work and sport and whose sense of duty is outstanding include Major John Kitwood and Paddy O'Connell and Captains Bob Manners, Shag O'Shawnessey, John Wood and Mich Garrod. Surely an inspiration to our current crop of ex-Apprentices—we will see in 2005 or before! Logistic Support . .„/ I I A M r"Ly fjffjrH Iw&jM -<P&G2A—f \ iffr^JQ V^ y jf \^V / N V > /' Battalion AMF(L) BATTALION HEADQUARTERS. In Battalion Headquarters the Force Supply Officer is Major Jim Steele, that well known freefall expert and Turkish linguist. The FSO is ably assisted by Sergeant Carr who still looks bewildered. The Chief Clerk, W02 Perry, maintains an air of calm except after his hepatitus jab. Lance Corporal Castle and Private Parry are the workers. in the case of Class III, Captain Hingston-Jones does not. think captains should command sections). Congratulations to Sergeant Ditchfield and Eades on their weddings and welcome to WOs2 Utterson and Ellis, Corporals Fleming and Agate, Lance Corporal Clarke and Privates Farley and Burkitt. 9 Battalion 81 ORDNANCE COMPANY THE Chief Clerk has again been out of unit location on a Battalion Training Exercise at Swynerton, well done Chief! Sergeant Kelly the new ORS has been busy getting ready for the unit move to Tidworth. A large proportion of the PC and A went to Swynerton with the bulk of the unit for a week of pain. Not being accustomed to things like Assault Courses, it was not long before groans told of people finding muscles in places they did not know existed. The PC and A team ably assisted by a contingent from 93 Company achieved second place in the Military Skills Com- petition which finished off the week. Lance Corporal Ross Dolan (ex Royal Signals) has been accepted as a member of the Corps. We cannot wait for the rebadging ceremony when we will assist in the necessary celebrations! Corporal Ian Gray with a complete lack of modesty, finely admits to having won the Army Golf Championships for the third time. Lance Corporal John Clifford is walking around with a smile having just received a posting to Germany as a Corporal. What is happening to the MT Stalwarts, they are all report- ing sick with various ailments from pulled muscles to gout, but training continues undeterred. Corporal Lobo has returned early from his Free Fall Course with a sprained knee. Due to a comment by a certain MT/PT Instructor the MT now starts the day with thirty press-ups, who said I'm too old? Well another ecstatic month in the CQMS Dept. The CO Staff Sergeant Walden has made an amazing discovery! Chryslers have door locks! He made this discovery after instal- ling a ' Triophonic Sound' system in his car, we believe he banged his head on the lock on the way out! As usual the Stores Platoon is very busy, this time preparing for the June FTX as well as our relocation. The Stores Platoon Commander W02 Matthews, is coping quite well with no senior ranks, Staff Sergeant Bates stood down three months J. LITTLE & COMPANY LIMITED (Members of The British Insurance Brokers Association) STORES SECTION AMF(L) WORKSHOP. Although strictly part of the AMF(L) Company the Stores Section lives and works with the Workshops. W02 Hobbins provides the technical know-how, Sergeant Ridley the graft ably supported by Lance Corporals Rees and Purchase and Private Dobbins. AMF(L) COMPANY. The pace never slackens. Having returned from a successful three months in Norway the com- pany bade farewell to Major Paul Wallace-Stock, who goes to plan a BAOR extravaganza and welcomed the new OC Major Tony Patrick. After barely one month's respite Captain Chris Storey took twenty of the company to support the AMF(L) artillery exercise, Exercise Ardent Ground. The remainder of the company drew up numerous green godesses, learnt how to use them and then returned them to the Home Office depots. During this time planning for the move to Ludgershall took place with pleas from the Chief Clerk of " can we see something on paper"? We did, the 5th revise of the movement in- struction for Exercise Adventure Express in Turkey. Oh yes, we have failed to mention that we are off to Turkey next week leaving the rear party to sort out the enormous mountains of stores we have moved to Ludgershall. Staff Sergeant Fletcher puts on a brave face but we know it broke his heart to take those neat rows of stores off the shelves! Never mind Staff, Hong Kong will be different. Sergeant Duffy, the MT Sergeant, is now happy as all his vehicles are on the high seas destined for the Eastern Mediterranean. The CQMS Staff beaver away, Private Cookson is going prematurely grey and Corporal Jones very red. The bakery are quiet at present al- though WOl Ross is occasionally seen muttering about the folly of not taking the bakery to Turkey. The other sections will have to wait until next month for their mention (sorry, platoon — 62 — W i l l all clients and other serving or retired members of the RAOC please note that the regular monthly advertisement appearing under the title of RAOC ASSURANCE A S S O C I A T I O N will in future be presented in the name of J.
