Transcription ago in anticipation of his Falklands tour. Sergeant Bolton is
shooting again, and Sergeant Duncalf conveniently found an out-
standing hernia at such a critical time, come home Staff Sergeant
Burnett all is forgiven! Corporal McPolland must be very close
to leaving us for civvy street because he refuses to do any more
jogging. Finally from the stores side, does anyone know if
Lance Corporal Donald is still at Leconsfield, he went there
about two years ago on a one months driving course and we
haven't heard from him since!
Farewells to: Sergeant Harry O'Rourke ex ORS to the
outside world of civvy street, Corporal Steve Charnock and
Private Sean Bate to Kenya for a six months holiday. Welcome
to Sergeant Chris Kelly, Lance Corporals Ron Wallace and
Ross Dolan as new Corps members, Privates Wilkes and Atkins
from the factory.
Congratulations to Ginge Lane and his wife on the birth of
their baby boy and fathers promotion to Lance Corporal. Also
to Lance Corporal Wallace, ex-ACC for passing his B2 Sup Spec,
to Tomo Thomson on passing his B2 Staff Clerk and Steve
Milburn on passing his HGV3. Also to Private Lewis who has
nearly succeeded in using all available FMT 3s in South East
District! Lastly to Corporal Cormack who successfully passed
his UBRE/TTI Instructors Course and to Craftsman Gilbert's
promotion to Lance Corporal. Congratulations to Corporal
Goulden on winning the Hammer at the Travers Clarke.
Central Ordnance Depot
Bicester
1 SUB-DEPOT. We are feeling the breeze
and work backlogs are creeping up now
that our casual labourers have gone. WOl
Falcus has now retired and we welcome
WOl Vincent from Germany in his place.
Our Sub-Depot has been host to the
Junior Trainees recently, who gain work
experience in each part of the Depot
during their course. We maintained our
civilian staff strength last month, but will
have to wait until September before an
influx of military replacements is anti-
cipated. Mr Gobi Sreenivasan, who works
in Storehouse CI, has returned from the World Karate Cham-
pionships in Japan as the World Champion (seventy two to eighty
kilogram Class) sixth Dan. Like many of the COD Bicester
civilian staff, Mr Sreenivasan is used to a service environment,
having retired from the Army in 1975 as RSM of the Queen's
Gurkha Rifles.
2 SUB-DEPOT. After Exercise Panthers Tail and ' B ' Company
training at Sennybridge, the Depot is again settling into a system
of flowing stores. Apart from sending stores worldwide we
were also represented in the Army Shoot by Staff Sergeant
Geordie Carrick, Lance Corporals Geordie Fairhurst and Shiner
Wright. Our SDWO WOl Dave Bulmer finally managed to get
away for a few days leave (Sergeant Ken Ellis-Rijs volunteered
for the Falklands rather than sit in for him again!).
For those who think they have escaped ' B ' Company on
short tours to the Falklands, beware—Major Bryan Thompson
(OC ' B ' Company) has come to join you! Fear not, Sir, the
SDWO has not relented on Tuesday afternoons, just increased
the pace, to convince all that it is worth the extra effort to pass
the test, not to mention the extra distance.
Our congratulations go to W/Corporal Whiteoak on passing
EPC, to Lance Corporal John Edwards on promotion and
marriage to Sharon Boot and to Lance Corporal Brummy Bailey
on promotion. Also to Lance Corporal Taffy and Mrs Royal
on the birth of their son John Paul.
A warm welcome to Staff Sergeants Dave White, Mick
Clitheroe and Sergeant Nobby Clark on return from Belize, to
Privates Phil Baker and Mark Hodgkinson on their return from
the Falklands. Also to Privates Dave Bond and Smudge Smith
from BAOR.
We say farewell to our Depot 2IC Major Thompson on
his rapid move to FILOG, to Sergeant Tony Griffin, off to
Belize (short tour), to Corporal Geordie Horsman soon to move,
and to Lance Corporal Smudge Smith on posting and promotion,
to Lance Corporal Jim Plunkett and Private Jock Ainsworth on
posting to Canada, and to Private Steve Scammel also off to
the Falklands.

BATTALION
BATTALION HEADQUARTERS. The Chief Clerk has returned
from leave and a Resettlement Course on farming at Bicton
College. Will the Pig Farm ever get started?
W/Lance Corporal Woodcock recently attended a Cadet
Training Course with 16 CTT and is the first WRAC to under-
take the course, and we hope not the last.
We welcome Lance Corporal Begg to the fold from Cyprus
and Lance Corporal Jeens has joined us from Hcadquarlers
COD. now desks are a problem, not Clerks.
W/Lance Corporal Hill is going on what might be called
an upgrading course to get married, our congratulations, may
all her problems be small ones.
BHQ has been given, free of charge, its own steam bath.
due to damaged water pipes. Normally personnel can be seen
sweating when departing not arriving, now everyone is confused.
Also free of charge, just outside the COs window may be
seen a partly submerged ten tonncr, will it become a permanent
part of our assault course; a good question; we must wait
and see, if mud and weather prevails.
The Assistant Adjutant, Captain S. R. T. Ginn. has com-
pleted the Unit Security Officers Course and Unit Fire Officer,
he is now fully qualified to burn the classified waste!
The RSM, WOl B. A. Ford, has taken some well earned
leave and we all wish him and his family every happiness in
their new home in Ambrosden.
Private Mumford is awaiting transfer to the RAVC in Sep-
tember, although the Chief has been threatening to send him to
the vet many times, need I say more?
'A' COMPANY.
It has been a quiet month, during which a
number of members have been discharged or posted. Their
replacements cannot be expected much before September, when
there will be a rush to prepare for the Shadow Unit Exercise
in Germany during October and early November.
Privates
Martin, Mathias and Rowley have been promoted to Lance
Corporal and are to be congratulated. Sergeant Avery is now
sorting out Company Training, a task made a little easier by the
slowdown in new arrivals.
Lance Corporal Todd has dis-
appeared to the Ascension Islands on detachment (he will miss
a Falklands winter at least). Private Dipple was pleased to be
short-toured and sent to Germany as a Field Force soldier and
our discharges included Privates Kilcoyne, James, Madley, Simp-
son, Thomson and Wane.
' B' COMPANY.
First of all we would like to congratulate
Lance Corporal Nick Neilson on his marriage, it was either
that or he would have to buy a washing machine and ' in
nights' on Tuesdays were getting too much for him to handle.
But can his new wife handle him alright?
The CSM, W02 Alan Smith, was away yet again on leave
and resettlement, the sheer bliss of the peace and quiet!
Also the football season has ended for this year so none of
us really know if Captain Bill Tweddle, our AO, will be able to
find things to occupy his long day. CSM Smith reckons that
using the phone will be easier now!
Our new CA, Mr Rocky Danials, has settled in quite well
and if Lance Corporal Neilson isn't too careful, he might end
up as Rocky's understudy.
We say goodbye to Private Andy Hill, Private Stevic
Scammel, who has gone to the land of the penguins, and Corporal
Geordie Horseman.
The chink and raising of glasses go to W02 Standen, Privates
Collins, Baker, Hodgkinson and Robinson, who now all have
the pleasure of serving with the best Company in the Battalion.
A very warm welcome to you all.
' D ' COMPANY WRAC. The last month has seen lots of com-
ings and goings within ' D ' Company WRAC. After a lengthy
spell away, Lieutenant Venessa Raine has put her skis to rest
and retired as the Battalion Ski Team Captain and taken up
the whee! of the Platoon Officers desk.
The Battalion Ski Team did commendably well in the Army
Scottish meeting.
The team made up of Lance Corporals
Wright, Lavendar, and Privates Pearse, Pennant and Panaro
finished well up the field beating several traditional ski-ing
Regiments. Some good individual results were also recorded.
Lieutenant Raine brought back a second, a special well done
must go to Lance Corpora! Wright and Private Panaro. who.
both in their first year of racing, had consistent good results
throughout the week, usually finishing in the top twenty.
Lieutenant Margaret Wilton who hardly got her feet under
her desk before she was whisked off to Morocco is still yomping
around the Atlas Mountains with Privates Wilson and Emery.
The adventure training season is now truly upon us. Lieu-
tenant Kim Austin and Lance Corporal Terry Price have made
off to the Welsh hills and mires for Exercise Holdfast Surprise.
A full report will follow on this next month.
