The Second-in-Command has made it away sailing in Gos- port again leaving the Officer Commanding, Major Sue Hawkins, fixed behind her desks. Over the last few months she has knocked seconds off her dash between her desk as Battalion Second-in- Command and her office in ' D ' Company. always leading the pack in our District (we even beat Kinc- ton). Next month we will concentrate on our Supply Specialist personalities being as they arc such a happy bunch. Central Ammunition Depot Kineton Central Ordnance Depot Donnington HIGHLIGHT of the month was a super Ladies Guest Night held in the Officers Mess at which we sadly said farewell to many of our members leaving the Service. The Commandant, Brigadier Brian Barratt, in his speech of thank you, goodbye and good luck, said farewell to Lieutenant Colonel Norman and Sheila Bruce, Lieutenant Colonel Nigel and Ruth Robinson and Lieu- tenant Colonel Ray and Ruth Holland. We wish them well in their new careers. Colonel Peter Dodworth followed the Commandant by paying his tributes and best wishes to the Brigadier who is shortly to retire, prematurely we may add. To Brigadier Brian and Barbara we send our best wishes for the future. We now look forward to our new Commandant who is due in July. It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Mr Don Padmore, the clerical officer employed in Garrison Head- quarters. Don had been ill for some weeks and his experience and devotion to the job will be sadly missed. To his family we offer our deepest sympathy. 15 BATTALION 'A' COMPANY. Captain Paddy Starrett has been moved from the peaceful backwater of Building B6 nearer to the seat of power in 2 Sub-Depot. He is now OIC Building B3. Readers who know what kind of stores we have in B3 may find it rather strange that we should put an Irishman in charge but we like to keep local security and MOD Police on their toes. The month started with a few warmers into the bank prior to the ARU. The usual parade rehearsals and military training paid off in the end with the GOC and his inspecting staff express- ing their satisfaction in what they saw. Mind you, we are still catching up with the backlog of work in storehouses. Major Ian McKinnon has taken over as OC and we welcome Privates Hackett and Rose. 2 Sub-Depot have said a sad farewell to Geoff George who was OIC Building B9. After leaving the Navy in 1947 Geoff joined the Corps in COD Chilwell and after a number of moves around the country came to Donnington in 1979. Our photo- graph shows Geoff receiving a farewell gift from the SSO, Colonel Peter Dodworth. We wish him a long and happy retirement. WHAT a marvellous month May has proved to be for us here at CAD Kine- ton ! The sun has continued to shine upon us and in fact got so hot recently that it was decided that we should all do our swimming test! ' Haverbags' were issued and transport requisitioned and off we all went like excited schoolchildren to Leamington Spa (where better) swimming pool. Unfortunately, ' someone ' got their admin mixed up and the pool was not So, back we all got into the bus, gave back our available. rations (to be used the next time!) and went back to work. I'm told that it was a dry run to test the timings. The next event was, without a doubt, a great success. The inter-company athletics meeting was held and proved to be very popular, not only with the participants but also the spectators. It was a very close finish with only eight points separating first and last place. 522 Company RPC won the day with ' B ' Company coming a close second. The Victor Ludorum Trophy was won by Private Crawford of ' B ' Company. Prizes were kindly presented by Mrs Higgins and our photograph shows Lance Corporal Perry receiving a trophy for something or other at the same time receiving the thumbs up from the Com- mandant. A truly wonderful day—well, better than the swim- ming anyway. Photo Private Powell. Lance Corporal Perry receives his trophy from Mrs Higgins. M r Ceoff George receives a farewell gift from Colonel Dodworth. 'C COMPANY. Yes, we do exist, so now we will introduce ourselves. We are the largest Company (in numbers, not size) of 15 Battalion and our main trade is, of course, Supply Specialist. The Supply Specialist work in COD Donnington in all the main buildings and our Admin staff are in Parsons Barracks. The leader of the gang is Major Rook WRAC (if creep points for a mention) aided and abetted by W02 CSM Bloomfield. The Company is excellent in the sporting field, Another inter-company competition which took place was that which took the form of a range day. 522 Company again managed to steal the show by winning the overall shoot with the individual SLR winner proving to be Staff Sergeant Hector of ' B ' Company. There was one light hearted moment during the Falling Plate. The sight of Headquarters Company ' B ' team running (and I use the term loosely) down the range against Headquarters Company 'A' team was almost too much. If you've never seen an elderly WOl Sup Con, a slightly younger but a little more portly W02 Staff Clerk, an elderly and portly medic Sergeant and a young whippet of a pioneer trying to run one hundred yards at speed through thirty inches of mud and water you've never lived! And they expected them to shoot as well! We welcome back into the fold W02 Andy Brown from the Falklands and Sergeant Dave Bruce from the USA, both from 'A' Company. Talking of 'A' Company, there is still no shortage of volunteers to get away to the Falklands. Those sunning themselves before they go are: Sergeant France and Corporals Besley and Hawkeswell. The unlucky ones are Lance Corporal Marshall and Private Winnis who pleaded to go but, alas, only managed to get four months tours in Kenya. — 64 — |
