J5£to£ from Hbroab AFNORTH Headquarters N O R T H A G Gl virtually has a new RAOC staff this year and they haven't been idle in the sporting side of life. Major Colin Robin- son achieved a personal triumph by com- peting in the first RAOC marathon held at Dulmen. It was his first ever marathon and he came eleventh overall in a time of three hours thirteen minutes. Incidentally the Headquarters BAOR/NORTHAG team won the team event. Gl once again showed its versatility by winning the NORTHAG Skill-at-Arms Meeting outright. The win- ning team was ' B ' Team, Major Colin Robinson and Private Dick Tucker, with 'A' team, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Green, SSM Barry Quigley and Lance Corporal Steve Jenkins, coming a very close second. Both teams tied on points after the SLR and SMG shoot but ' B ' team proved the better shot in the rifle shoot. Soccer is also blooming with Corporals Ritch Ritchie and Mick Horner off to Norway to compete in the Landjut Cup 1983 Tournament. We wish them luck. Lance Corporal Steve Hartley has shown he too can kick a ball and with a successful first season with NORTHAG is training hard for the coming new season. Athletes, Corporals Dave Coole and Alan Irons, entered the Rheindahlen Garrison Athletics as individuals and won three out of their five events. They went on to represent the Garrison in the Rhine Area Championships and once again achieved good results. Lance Corporal Paul Compton who is an avid ' Hash' runner can often be heard muttering " On-on " along the corridor, but on a recent Hash in some nearby woods, he made a right ' hash' of things and tore the tendons in his ankle. In G4 Chief Clerk W 2 Phil Careless has managed to fit in some adventure training, and now that the ski-ing season is over he is all at sea, literally! Congratulations Phil on being awarded your Skipper's ticket. We welcome Lance Corporal Phil Evans into the fold of G4 as a fully fledged RAOC Staff Clerk having just transferred from the Irish Guards. Congratulations are also due to W02 Dave Wolfe, Chief Clerk to COSNORTHAG on being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. W02 Dave Wolfe receives his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal from Major General Zerling at NORTHAG. HEADQUARTERS WITH a forty two per cent turnover of RAOC personnel within Headquarters AFNORTH in less than eight weeks it has been decided that we should publicly reveal the names of our secretive seven. Our first recent arrival is WO I Ian Reid who is now firmly established as the Chief in Registry. A very well timed letter has just arrived on my desk informing us of an SRC selection—our heartiest congratulations Sir. Staff Sergeant Steve Smith, recently arrived from 24 Infantry Brigade, has taken over from Staff Sergeant Steve Morgans in the Land Deputy's office. His recent comment " I'll feel better when the wife arrives! !" was echoed by Sergeant Paul Harrison who is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his wife and daughter. Paul is already finding his way around Kolsds on his road runs and has also started football training; no doubt this is due to Corporal Kev Golby's insistence! Kev works alongside Paul in the Central Registry and is the manager and captain's the Kolsas second team. Sergeant Steve Jarzembski, who works for the Commander-in- Chief, has, we think finally decided to buy an Escort. He was spotted last week 'browsing' around one. and the following day ' borowing' one ' just to get the feel of it.' Corporal John Clorley, NCO IC Registry in the UK Support Element, can be seen frantically checking the afternoon mail for signs of his and Kev's posting orders. Both have been selected for promotion to Sergeant. At present working as stand-in for the RQMS we have Corporal Tony Donaldson. Although everything seems to be running smoothly he claims he can never find anything. Tony is yet another football enthusiast who has joined forces in the Kolsas team. We say farewell to WOl Sid Noble to Didcot, who will be missed by both the Senior Ranks Club and the Kolsas football team, Staff Sergeant Steve Morgans on promotion to Head- quarters South West District and Sergeant Bernie Morgan to Headquarters 1 (BR) Corps. Headquarters BAOR WE start our notes with news of athletics. First, the Rheindahlen Garrison Meeting. RAOC athletes were spread throughout the teams representing Headquarters BAOR branches and were successful in the following events: WOl Les Cheetham was first in the team one hundred metres in 12.0 seconds, first in the Veterans four hundred metres in 60.0 seconds and together with Sergeant Dave Le Page, helped their team to win the four b> one hundred metres relay! Corporal Dave Coole, of Head- quarters NORTHAG, was allowed to compete as an individual. since NORTHAG didn't enter a team, and did very well, coming first in the one hundred metres in 11.6 seconds, first in the four hundred metres in 56.5 seconds and first in the high jump with 1.65 metres! W02 Dave Kuester came first in the one hundred and ten metres high hurdles with 20.3 seconds and won the javelin with a throw of 54.34 metres! Captain Paul Henwood, after an unluckly fall in the one hundred and ten metres high hurdles and still being placed second, redeemed himself in the long jump by winning with a jump of 5.76 metres and came third in the javelin. In fact Captain Henwood tied for first place in the Victor Ludorum but was beaten by the track rule. Then also in Rheindahlen, the Rhine Area Inter Unit Athletic Championships took place.
